    Albert Ayler

I just heard My Name is Albert Ayler for the first time today. Prior to this, I thought I had heard tracks where the rest of the band is unable to cope with what Ayler is doing. This takes it to a whole other level. On the tracks where you can start to really hear Ayler being Ayler it sounds like the rest of the band was recorded seperately and had no idea what Albert was going to play.

IMO, there is nothing SINOW about Open Systems. That disc is amazing, from start to finish. Tsahar, on the other hand, I am hot and cold on. Sometimes I really enjoy his work (Open Syetems, Come Sunday) other times I am really underwhelmed by him. (Shekina is very SINOW, the duo with Hamid on Ayler is ok, but not great.)

I'll have to check this disc out. It sounds like you are describing something by Earth, Sunn )))) or the Melvins at their sludgiest.

This is teh same lineup as on Live at Nefertiti, on Ayler, which I really enjoy. I'm glad to hear it is worth listening to. Have you heard the disc on Ayler and are you able to compare the two?
  5. I just listened to that Antibalas album on the drive back from Boston...great stuff!

I tried to buy a disc from the label a year ago and the order was finally cancelled as they never followed up on it.
  7. 106 live shows by KDTU available for download here, all with Karl's permission. Enjoy!

I've been hearing good things about this disc for a while. I'll have to grab a copy soon. in other news, according to Lois, the admin over at JC, Anthony Braxton has agreed to sign up and start an "Ask Anthony Braxton" thread. Should be interesting, to say the least...

  11. Thanks for posting this! I've wanted to hear this album for quite a while. I'll give that auction a shot.

I have yet to hear it but there is a record review thread for this disc over at JC. Everyone is universally praising it, so far.
  13. chronologically he is. If we talk in terms of maturity most of us would probably fall into that range.

ubu - Mego puts mp3s of all of their releases up on their website, so you can listen to this album here before you decide if you want to purchase the disc. Mego has six of the tracks available in full mp3 versions. They are fantastic! I will be buying a "real" copy of this one asap! Mego albums also are now available as $9.99 mp3 downloads, but I prefer to have a real copy in hand. I might buy Pita's Get Down album as a download at some point. It was previously only available in vinyl.
  15. I was positive that I had asked about her here before, but I can't find the thread when I search. Check out this review over at One Final Note for some more info.
  16. Bright Moments - I think a lot of people here would be very interested in hearing this disc. If you get a copy from Steve would you be willing to start a tree to distribute it within Organissimo? I'd be willing to make copies and help share it. edit - as long as Steve doesn't mind it being redistributed, that is.
  17. Brotzmann with Wertmüller
  18. I don't know anything about Pliakas, but I've heard some nice music by Wertmüller, in a group called Steamboat Switzerland and on Brotz' album Nothung. If you do a search for "Wertmüller", by post, you'll find some comments in the Funny Rat thread. Board member D.D. is a big fan of his. Let us know how the show is! Also, does anyone know of an online resource that lists all of these tourdates?
  19. I was readying myself to type up a reply to your first Ayler vs. Brotz quote but, once I read this, I see where you are coming from. I still feel that the "pothole" language is unnecessarily denigrating, but, for the most point, I agree with your point. I think you could say the same thing about the Trane on Interstellar Space (for example) vs. any number of other sax players operating within the same palette of sound.

I don't know this disc but Nakatani is fantastic on his duo w/ Assif Tsahar Come Sunday. This disc looks really interesting. Nice packaging, too.
  21. Of course! And I'm always the first to say "Yeah" after song ends but before the applause begins. I usually spend that time calling the musicians "crazy cats" and hollering out a vulgarity and the musicians nickname(s), followed by "baby."
  22. Man, the La Cave recordings are beautiful....
  23. two discs of Las Vegas added....
