  1. I totally agree with this. I too read the whole booklet. Couldn't put it down. And I'm on my third listen to the music. Terrific stuff made all the more interesting by the essay. Edited to add; The critical reviews of of Tubby quoted in the notes now seem very quaint. The music has held up; the criticisms have not.
  2. Some excellent Woody Shaw on this, his last studio date (rec. 1987). He never stopped getting better.
  3. I've always enjoyed this CD. Vol. 2 with different pianists is fine as well, but not as good as this one.
  4. Hi Willie: Here are the tracks and the date and location (Disc 1 only). The '72 tracks may be the ones you taped, since I have your CDR. But I haven't yet done a comparison. Concertgebouw, Amsterdam Feb. 6, 1972 Fringe Benefit Artistry in Percussion Chiapas Malaga Concertgebouw, Amsterdam Feb. 6, 1973 Fragments of a Portrait The Daily Dance Congresgebouw, The Hague, Sept. 17, 1976 Body and Soul Too Shy to Say Ramon Lopez Send In the Clowns Inner Crisis
  5. A good one. Gone in the mass sale of my LP's. (Some days I regret doing that).
  6. Variety is good for you, Bill. Now: Whatever else Al Haig may have been, he was a terrific solo pianist.
