  1. It is Bob Mintzer's "Good News". I am not a big fan of much of Mintzer's writing, but I like this piece. One of his best, I think. Extended solos by Steve Marcus and Buddy. Beautifully recorded. The whole package is excellent.
  2. Yes, the recent Herman which I pre-ordered along with the Savoy set which was still in print at that time (though running low I believe). They held the Savoy set and sent it along with the Herman. Smooth as can be. No problems. No customs charges. Excellent.
  3. It's strange in a way, because the two snafus I've had with Mosaic service (both corrected at Mosaic's expense) happened back in the day when it was a humming operation. But there's been no problem with my recent orders at all. Arrived in a timely way, and quite frankly the sets are now much better protected by bubble wrap. So I agree with Clunky - no apology necessary, at least to me.
  4. Another dandy from the Tubby box set. Such a great set, one gem after another.
  5. From the Tubby box set. A heavyweight box in every respect.
  6. Tremendous recording. One of my favorite recordings in recent years.
  7. Just listened to that one from the Tubby box. Great stuff. I really enjoyed it. Now:
  8. I have a number of Jimmy Heath's recordings I enjoy, esp. Picture of Heath on Xanadu, and couple of later big band dates. I was never quite as taken by the Heath Bros. recordings. Right now about 90% of my music collection is packed away in boxes for a move later in the year, so all the Heath recordings are inaccessible to me at the moment. But there's always Spotify and I-tunes.
  9. One of my favorite Kessel recordings. .
  10. I know that Rob Schneiderman was/is a math professor; I didn't know that about Hod. I guess if Bud Powell had gone into academia he would have been a math professor too. Something about math and bebop piano.
  11. Yes, I have "Just in Time". Astonishing. Arguably Buddy's best big band recording ever (in the top 3, for sure). Recorded 6 months before his death.
  12. I am a big fan of Hod O'Brien. He was on many of the Danny D'Imperio small group albums, mostly from the 90's, and makes a strong impression. He also made some trio albums for Reservoir in the 90's and 2000's (5, I think). I recommend this series.
