  1. Toronto, where I lived at the time, was an excellent place to buy jazz records - Sam the Record Man, A&A, Sherman's, etc. Plus the Jazz and Blues Centre for the really hard to find imports (actually probably 90% + of jazz albums available in Canada were imports) But Sam's often got the hard-to-find stuff, too. Amazing what you would find there.

  3. It's almost like a portrait done in the last couple of years of his life, after his disastrous head injury in 1977, and consequent severe decline in health, which led to his death in 1979. Now: Obscure obviously, but the Canadian reedman is the subject of Mark Miller's recent book, "Oneliness", which I hope to read soon.
