  1. Prompted by the selection above, I'm listening to:
  2. As mentioned above:
  3. One of Wayne's finest hours, I think.
  4. Yes. For sure. Thanks for this, Mark. This one is new to me.
  5. Funny that you mention Weber. Earlier, I was listening to Pat Metheny's Watercolors, and Weber is the bassist on that album. Weber's playing caught my ear -- particularly on the gorgeous final track, "Sea Song" -- and that's what prompted me to grab this Hampton Hawes LP. I also pulled Weber's Yellow Fields from the shelf. I'm planning to spin that LP next. I guess it's an Eberhard Weber sort of day.
  6. Now spinning: The Dynamic Hampton Hawes (MPS NL, rec. 1967) with Eberhard Weber (b) and Klaus Weiss (d) This LP is a favorite of mine.
  7. Yep, it's a balm for a gloomy day.
  8. Oooooh. Can't get rid of that one, can you?!?! JK You do you. ... But I couldn't!
  9. Another Herbie Nichols tribute: So true.
  10. Now listening to Stokowski's premiere recording of Charles Ives' Fourth Symphony, as heard in this set: A powerful performance! The CD also includes Ives' Robert Browning Overture and four songs (arranged for chorus & orchestra).
  11. with Eddie Gomez & Billy Drummond
  12. I'm excited for you. For a bit of context, I'd put Charles Ives in the same "beyond category" realms as Duke Ellington and Sun Ra. Each of them is utterly and fantastically unique, occupying a self-made sonic universe.
  13. I'd recommend starting with these works & performances: - Three Places in New England / Ormandy, Philadelphia O (Sony) - This performance was my initial gateway into Ives' world. - Symphony No. 2 / Bernstein, NYPO (Sony) - The Holidays Symphony / Ormandy, Philadelphia O (Sony) - Symphony No. 4 / Tilson Thomas, Chicago (Sony) - Songs / Jan DeGaetani, Gilbert Kalish (Nonesuch) The first three albums above are included in the new anthology; the last two aren't, but I'm sure they're readily available for streaming.
  14. with James "Blood" Ulmer, George Adams, Sirone, and Rashied Ali
  15. Now playing: Nonato Luiz, Djalma CorrĂȘa, Luiz Alves - Gosto de Brasil (Caju/Milestone, 1990) Beautiful.
  16. I wish I had that set! Yeah, I thought that was strange too.
  17. I ordered from Amazon > import CDs too. I haven't had issues with them in the past. Fingers crossed.
  18. Sonny Rollins - What's New? (RCA, 1962) "Jungoso" !!!
  19. LUCKY geezers.
  20. Now playing: John Carter & Bobby Bradford - Mosaic Select 36 Disc 2 - Some previously unissued cuts, plus four tracks originally released as the LP Secrets Thanks again, Mark!
