Thanks for the heads-up. I'll investigate. Continuing the theme with: -
Here's a dozen that I enjoy (in no particular order): The Chicago Jazz Giants - Live! (MPS, 1977) with Wild Bill Davison, Eddie Hubble, Bob Wilber, Ralph Sutton, Isla Eckinger, and Cliff Leeman Soprano Summit (World Jazz, 1977) and Soprano Summit II (World Jazz, 1978) featuring Bob Wilber & Kenny Davern with (critically) Dick Hyman on piano Dick Wellstood - Live at Hanratty's (Chazz Jazz/Chiaroscuro, 1981) solo piano Don Ewell - Man Here Plays Fine Piano! (Good Time Jazz, 1961) with Darnell Howard, Pops Foster & Minor Hall The World's Greatest Jazzband of Yank Lawson & Bob Haggart - Live at the Roosevelt Grill (Atlantic, 1970) with Billy Butterfield, Lou McGarity, Vic Dickenson, Bob Wilber, Ralph Sutton, and Gus Johnson Bobby Hackett with Vic Dickenson - Live at the Roosevelt Grill, Vols. 1 - 4 (Chiaroscuro, rec. 1970) with Dave McKenna, Jack Lesberg, and Cliff Leeman; I'm most partial to Vol. 3, which focuses on New Orleans classics The Albert Nicholas Quartet with Art Hodes (Delmark, 1961) with Earl Murphy and Freddie Kohlman Art Hodes - I Remember Bessie (Delmark) and Tribute to the Greats (Delmark) These solo piano tracks were originally made for the Euphonic Sound Recordings label in the 1970s. Ralph Sutton - Alligator Crawl (Solo Art, rec. 1975-76) The CD compiles two solo piano LPs originally released on Riff Records, NL. Vic Dickenson – Plays Bessie Smith: "Trombone Cholly" (Sonet, 1976) with Joe Newman, Frank Wess, and others The Classic Jazz Quartet - The Complete Recordings (Jazzology, 2 CDs) compiles their two mid-80s albums; with Dick Sudhalter, Dick Wellstood, Joe Muranyi, and Marty Grosz Bucky Pizzarelli with Bud Freeman - Buck & Bud (Flying Dutchman, 1976) some cuts are duos and others include a rhythm section of Hank Jones, Bob Haggart, and Ronnie Traxler

Now on my turntable: Sergei Prokofiev: Alexander Nevsky (Cantata based on Music for the Eisenstein Film), Op. 78 / André Previn, LSO & Chorus, Anna Reynolds (Angel, 1972) EDIT After listening to this Alexander Nevsky and being impressed, I've been doing some digging on Discogs. Turns out that Previn recorded a lot of Prokofiev during his eleven-year run as the principal conductor of the LSO: - The Piano Concertos - with Ashkenazy - The Violin Concertos - with Kyung-Wha Chung - Symphony No. 1 "Classical" - Symphony No. 5 - Symphony No. 6 - Symphony No. 7 - Cinderella (complete ballet) - Romeo & Juliet (complete ballet) - Peter & the Wolf - with Mia Farrow - Alexander Nevsky (cantata) - Lieutenant Kijé (suite) I had no idea that Previn had made so many Prokofiev recordings! (Perhaps because many of them are no longer available?) Along with his Nevsky, I only know Previn's Romeo & Juliet and his piano concertos with Ashkenazy. I'm now streaming Previn's recording of Prokofiev's Fifth Sym. It's startlingly good. . . . I'm going to need to dive into this stuff more deeply. Seems like Previn had a very convincing handle on Sergei Prokofiev! -
Now spinning: Laurindo Almeida, Salli Terri, and Others - Duets with the Spanish Guitar, Album 2 (Angel, 1971) Originally released on Capitol in 1960 as Conversations with the Guitar Another very special album from Almeida & Terry. I'm jealous of you guys. I saw Hutcherson a few times, but I never had an opportunity to see the Timeless All Stars.

T.D. - I'd love to hear your impressions of these -- particularly the Yamashita Trio -- after you've had a while to absorb them. I ordered these 2 LPs on Discogs yesterday:

NP: Angel Romero - Spanish Guitar Virtuoso (Seraphim, 2000) Works by Albéniz, Torroba, Tárrega & Turina Those sorts of breakthroughs are so gratifying! Like someone suddenly turned on the lights in a formerly dark place. -
Picked this up for peanuts at a library sale. I didn't even know it existed. First listen. A Tribute to John Coltrane: Blues for Coltrane (Impulse, 1988) - Tracks 1-3 with Sanders - Track 4 trio - Tracks 5-7 with Murray First impression: Cecil McBee & Roy Haynes sound great together. Gerald Wilson rules.
