  1. I've been in Barcelona for the last couple days. I made a quick visit to Wah Wah Discos and picked up two Mad About Records vinyl reissues: and I also snagged this LP, reissued on Wah Wah's house label:
  2. Disc 7 - Tchaikovsky: Sym. No. 5 with the New Philharmonia Orchestra
  3. Now listening to this album: as heard on this CD reissue:
  4. Wonderful to hear Marty Ehrlich and Tony Malaby together on this disc. Two-sax front lines rule.
  5. Now playing: This Fresh Sound CD compiles two Hawkins LPs recorded in 1960: - Coleman Hawkins and His Orchestra (Crown CST-206) - The Hawk Swings (Crown CST-224)
  6. Now playing: Dollar Brand [Abdullah Ibrahim] + 2 - Peace (Soultown SA, 1971) with Victor Ntoni (b) and Nelson Magwaza (d)
  7. Wunderbar. and This disc is very deserving of the "Rosette" it received in the Penguin Guide years ago.
  8. George Duke as leader & sideman:
  9. Gents - What are your impressions?
  10. Yep. And stupid too.
  11. Along with Mongo, this album features a MONSTER rhythm lineup: Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Eddie "Gua Gua" Rivera, and Chuck Rainey on bass; Armando Peraza, Julio Collazo, Angel Allende, Don Alias, and Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on percussion. ¡Ritmos magníficos! 🙂 And also this: So good. One of the MJQ's albums that I play most often.
  12. Prompted by the Christy posts above: Fine music for a lazy Sunday morning.
  13. Yes!!! I think her voice is very distinctive too. It's unstudied (in the best sense) and natural. Not at all "operatic." Have you heard Davrath's rendition of Mahler's Fourth -- with Abravanel & the Utah SO? It's amazing, another perfect pairing of artist and repertoire.
