  1. That is odd. Seems like Hawes has always had a solid (or even better) reputation.
  2. Disc 2 - originally released as The Sun Is Out
  3. Thanks sidewinder. More titles to add to the "To Get" list!
  4. Thank you, sir! The Ellington tribute caught my eye as well.
  5. I was just poking around on Dusty Groove, and I noticed that there's a big batch of Stan Tracey reissues due out soon. (I see that they were mentioned in this thread above.) All are being issued on the Resteamed label around July 1, 2021 (here in the U.S., at least). Titles on the DG website: - Child's Christmas Jazz Suite - Flying Pig - From Stan With Love (With Love From Jazz / We Love You Madly) - Later Works – Hong Kong Suite / Amandla Suite - Sound Check - Wisdom In The Wings (Free An One / Seven Ages Of Man) I've enjoyed some of Tracey's music -- (The Return of) Captain Adventure is a favorite -- but I'm unfamiliar with these reissues. Any thoughts or recommendations from Tracey-philes or others?
  6. Wow. That is amazing! NP: Michele Rosewoman and Quintessence - Contrast High (Enja, 1989)
  7. Still sticking with today's piano trio theme:
  8. For me, it's been a Friday of nothing but piano trios. Now: Earlier:
  9. Tito Puente's Golden Latin All Stars - "In Session" (RMM/TropiJazz, 1994) I really like this one.
  10. I hear you on that. The Never Again! LP sequence is imprinted in my brain. Gotta tack on the bonus tracks at the end.
  11. Yes, I've been enjoying the disc! They're two young musician with very bright futures, IMO. I had tix to see them perform at Emory University in ATL -- but the concert was canceled when the pandemic hit. Argh. Hopefully, they'll reschedule it at some point.
  12. Ah, didn't realize that there were bonus cuts! I may have to track that down the CD then. Mickey Tucker sounds GOOD on that organ. NP:
  13. Prompted by some Erroll Garner discussion elsewhere on the board: I'm listening to the cuts originally released as Gemini (1972).
  14. The Hip Organ Trio is the Xanadu reissue of Never Again. Same music. I guess Schlitten got those tapes when he and Joe Fields parted ways. Another LP with Eddie Gladden that I would definitely recommend: Mickey Tucker - Mister Mysterious (Muse, 1979) IMO, this is Mickey Tucker's finest hour as a leader. Since it's out of print, here's the full LP on YT:
  15. I'm not absolutely certain, but it appears to be the exact same music that Telarc issued a few years ago. ... But instead of putting two LPs worth of material on each CD -- like Telarc did -- Mack Avenue has put each LP on a single CD. So what was formerly six Telarc CDs has become twelve CDs in this package.
