Now that you mention it, I can see some resemblance. Similar scruffy 70s hair & facial hair. Similar large forehead & prominent brow.
And they're both wonderful musicians!
NP:
I'm in Anderson, SC today, and I visited Rainbow Records, a local shop. Picked up a few nice items:
Vinyl. Used copy of the recent reissue -- but NM condition. Only $9.99
2 LPs. Early Maynard.
CD. Always good to add more Pat Martino to the collection.
Two by Eddie Harris:
Eddie Who? (Timeless, 1986)
with Ralphe Armstrong & Sherman Ferguson
and
People Get Funny... (Timeless, 1987)
with William Henderson, Larry Gales, and Carl Burnett
More Ellington sans Orchestra:
I feel like I could listen to Ellington every day for the rest of my life, and I'd never get tired of his music.
It's a deep well.
I meant for them to be chosen as a pair; that is, expressed (sort of) algebraically:
(E.S.P. + Miles Smiles) OR (Sorcerer + Nefertiti)
Push Push has greater (unintentional?) comic value. So I'll go with that one.
Coincidentally, this LP also features Bobby Hutcherson's debut recordings (as a sideman).
Here's a little write-up about the LP on my Hutcherson site.
By the way, does your LP smell like pepperoni?
That is very strange. Why not just change the title to Vol. 2 or 3 or whatever? Then it's a new compilation with new selections. No potential for confusion.
