  1. Now that you mention it, I can see some resemblance. Similar scruffy 70s hair & facial hair. Similar large forehead & prominent brow. And they're both wonderful musicians! NP:
  2. I'm in Anderson, SC today, and I visited Rainbow Records, a local shop. Picked up a few nice items: Vinyl. Used copy of the recent reissue -- but NM condition. Only $9.99 2 LPs. Early Maynard. CD. Always good to add more Pat Martino to the collection.
  3. Two by Eddie Harris: Eddie Who? (Timeless, 1986) with Ralphe Armstrong & Sherman Ferguson and People Get Funny... (Timeless, 1987) with William Henderson, Larry Gales, and Carl Burnett
  4. Stitt at the top of his game.
  5. More Ellington sans Orchestra: I feel like I could listen to Ellington every day for the rest of my life, and I'd never get tired of his music. It's a deep well.
  6. I meant for them to be chosen as a pair; that is, expressed (sort of) algebraically: (E.S.P. + Miles Smiles) OR (Sorcerer + Nefertiti) Push Push has greater (unintentional?) comic value. So I'll go with that one.
  7. They did it twice! Even more strange.
  8. Coincidentally, this LP also features Bobby Hutcherson's debut recordings (as a sideman). Here's a little write-up about the LP on my Hutcherson site. By the way, does your LP smell like pepperoni? That is very strange. Why not just change the title to Vol. 2 or 3 or whatever? Then it's a new compilation with new selections. No potential for confusion.
  9. Why "dread"? ... Because it can't possibly live up to the standard of the studio album? Just wondering.
  10. Don't think so. I'll take Wayne, Herbie, Ron & Tony. E.S.P. and Miles Smiles? or Sorcerer and Nefertiti?
  11. Impulse. For Coltrane and all the rest. Sonny Rollins on RCA or Sonny Rollins on Blue Note?
