  5. I need to get those Waldron Tutu discs. Don't have them. Never heard them. Ugh.
  6. Richie Beirach - ZAL (Trio Japan, 1976) Duos with Yoshiaki Masuo (trks 1 to 3) and Terumasa Hino (trks 4 & 6) Both ZAL and Scofield's Live (above) are being reissued on CD later this month in Japan. I only have them as downloads. Sorely tempted to buy both.
  7. Thanks for the additional info, gents.
  8. John Scofield - Live (Enja, 1978) with Richie Beirach, George Mraz & Joe LaBarbera Excellent early Sco.
  9. The bonus cuts are very nice indeed. NP: Eddie Palmieri - Sentido (Mango/Coco, 1973)
  10. Pim, I've never seen that LP before. What do you think of the music?
  11. Yes! The whole band is terrific. ... Over the last couple days, I've been knocked out by Heinz Sauer's tenor playing.
  12. Scathing satire, for sure. NP:
  13. I have a book about Armstrong by John Chilton that was published well before 1980. (Don't recall the exact date.) Also, didn't Satch write and/or collaborate with a ghost writer to publish two (?) autobiographical books during his lifetime? I thought he did. EDIT: Just checked. He did. The titles were Satchmo: My Life in New Orleans and Swing That Music. Looks like both have been republished by Da Capo.
  14. Now listening to today's entry on PLAYING FAVORITES: Albert Mangelsdorff Quartet - Never Let It End (MPS, 1970)
  15. Quintessential Bob Porter-produced early 70s soul jazz.
  16. Sonny Stitt - Blues for Duke (Muse, 1978) Recorded in 1975 with Barry Harris, Sam Jones, and Billy Higgins Yeah.
  17. Thanks for sharing this, Jim. I've never heard this LP. Adding it to the list. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the song "My Way." Sinatra's, Elvis', or anybody's. But, listening to Jug's version now, it's OK -- probably because it doesn't have those bathetic lyrics. Ha! I hope so. That means I'm doing something right!
  18. Sorry to hear this. R.I.P.
