  2. Thank you for sharing this, @Daniel A.
  3. This again: The L.A. Four [Laurindo Almeida, Bud Shank, Ray Brown, Shelly Manne] - Going Home (East Wind, 1977) Every instrument on this album is beautifully recorded. Today, I'm listening carefully to Shelly Manne. What a superb drummer! He's always swinging, always lifting up the music.

  5. Magnificent EKE set.
  6. The more, the merrier.
  7. Now playing: CD 6 - Schubert's Symphonies No. 8 "Unfinished" and No. 9 "The Great" Wonderful performances. Magisterial interpretations.
  8. Prompted by some discussion on another thread re: Charles Tolliver:
  9. I feel the same way. I'd be especially interested to hear how this new archival release compares with Live at The Loosdrecht Jazz Festival (aka Grand Max) -- both musically-speaking and AQ-wise -- since both feature John Hicks in the pianist's chair.
  10. Years ago, I saw Hilary Hahn perform with the Atlanta SO. After performing a concerto with the orchestra, she offered a short Bach piece as an encore. It was INCREDIBLY moving. One of the most powerful live performances I've seen.
  11. More Ella. This time with Pops. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Ella and Louis Again (Verve, 1957) 2-CD Verve Master Edition reissue Perfection.
  12. I think it's an overlooked gem. It features some of the most forceful piano playing that I've ever heard from Allison. And the vocal features are excellent too. Allison seems "amped" by the live setting.
