  1. That looks interesting. What do you think, soulpope?
  2. Next up: Don Sebesky - Giant Box (CTI)
  3. First spin of a new-to-me LP: Chico Hamilton - Chic, Chic, Chico (Impulse, 1965) Chico's music always has that texture -- regardless of instrumentation or chronology. BTW: I wonder why this record hasn't ever been reissued on CD. Or has it? (I don't see a CD entry in discogs.)
  4. Yep! Looking forward to hearing the record.
  5. During a lunchtime record store run, I picked up these LPs:
  6. Moravec's Chopin is amazing. I think that's one of the strongest recordings of the "Babi Yar," right up there with Kondrashin's. Rozhdestvensky's entire cycle is very interesting, I think. A unique perspective.
  7. Lots of interesting stuff there. Thanks for the heads-up, felser. As a Roland Hanna-ophile, I would definitely recommend Time for the Dancers. It's one of Hanna's finest trio records, imo. But don't expect it whack you over the head. It's subtle. But keep listening... after a few spins, it starts to reveal itself, until finally, "Wow!"
  8. Cal Tjader - Puttin' It Together (Fantasy, 1974)
  9. Count Basie -- with and without Sinatra:
  10. Just found this Clare Fischer LP today: Ralph Carmichael Presents the Multikeyboards of Clare Fischer - Love Is Surrender (Light, 1970) Weirdly unsettling. Also: Katia and Marielle Labèque - en Blanc et Noir: The Debussy Album (Philips)
  11. James Moody - Another Bag (Argo, 1962) James Moody - Hey! It's James Moody (Argo, 1960)
  12. Dizzy Gillespie - Something Old, Something New (Philips) as heard on this: Also sampling -- via Bandcamp -- a new release by Bram Weijters & Chad McCullough called Pendulum.
  13. James Moody - Moody's Mood (Chess) LP 2
  14. Such a great record! One of Cannonball's best, IMO.
  15. NP: Earlier: Excellent.
  16. Duke Ellington - Duke's Joint (Buddha) Duke Ellington & Count Basie - First Time! (Sony Legacy)
  17. Duke Ellington - New York Concert: In Performance at Columbia University (MusicMasters Jazz) It's always fun to hear Duke in a trio setting.
  18. LPs I've been spinning today: Bill Barron - The Next Plateau (Muse) Benny Carter & Dizzy Gillespie - Carter, Gillespie, Inc. (Pablo) Buddy Tate & the Muse All-Stars - Live at Sandy's (Muse) I was listening to that last night. Such a wonderful record; one of Fortune's best, I think. I'm sad that he's gone. RIP
  19. Earlier today and again now:
  20. Bobby Hutcherson - Head On (Blue Note) An atypical Hutch record because all of the pieces (except for one CD bonus track) were written by Todd "Bayeté" Cochran.
