  1. Enjoyed this so much yesterday that I'm playing it again today:
  2. NP: Arrived in the mail today.
  3. Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes.
  4. Phil Woods / Enrico Pieranunzi - Elsa (Philology, rec. 1991)
  5. From this set: Brahms' Vier ernste Gesänge (Four Serious Songs), Op. 121, as performed by Janet Baker and André Previn
  6. No idea about the poses. I just posted the pic because the pianists are two of my favorites.
  7. Mal Waldron - Mingus Lives (Enja, 1979) Solo piano. Oh yeah. Agreed. For more Hino, you might also want to investigate Taro's Mood, another excellent Enja release from the 70s. Hooray for Matthias Winckelmann & Horst Weber!
  8. Billy Higgins - Soweto (Red)
  9. Yeah! I like ALL of Martino's Muse recordings, but Consciousness and Live are my two faves. 32 Jazz reissued them in a 2-CD set called Head and Heart. Along with One, Two, Free, don't overlook Martino's work with Kloss on Sky Shadows (also featuring Jaki Byard). I LOVE that LP too. Funny that sidewinder mentioned bringing some LPs to a Martino gig. I did the same at a performance here in Georgia and got We'll Be Together Again signed. Martino was very gracious and friendly -- and he put on a helluva show!
  10. Mike Wofford - Plays Gerald Wilson: "Gerald's People" (Discovery) with Rufus Reid (b), Carl Burnett (d), and -- on a few of the tracks -- Richie Gajate Garcia (perc) Interesting to hear Gerald Wilson's music interpreted by a small group. Seems like his music is ripe for this sort of thing. I'm sorta surprised more musicians haven't done it.
  11. Gene Bertoncini / Michael Moore - Two in Time (Chiaroscuro)
  12. More Getz: Stan Getz / Bob Brookmeyer - Recorded Fall 1961 (Verve) with Steve Kuhn (p), John Neves (b), and Roy Haynes (d)
  13. The Stan Getz Quartet - The Dolphin (Concord) Recorded live at Keystone Korner with Lou Levy (p), Monty Budwig (b), and Victor Lewis (d) Stan may have been nuts, but he sure could make a gorgeous sound with the saxophone.
  14. Freddie Redd - Straight Ahead! (Interplay) Solid trio date with Henry Franklin & Carl Burnett. Walter Norris & Aladar Pege - Winter Rose (Enja) I really like this -- but I think another record by this duo, Synchronicity, is even better.
  15. Yeah, I saw that announcement from Mosaic. I think I'm just gonna stick with the Bee Hive vinyl that I already own. You know how it is: competing priorities. There are just so many things that I'd like to add to my collection. Plus, I'm trying to cut back on my music spending this year. Ugh. A tough assignment.
  16. Gordon Beck - Sunbird (JMS) with Allan Holdsworth, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, and Aldo Romano
  17. Some prime Al Cohn on this LP.
  18. Disc 1 That's on my "to get" list.
