  1. Yep! Looking forward to hearing the record.
  2. During a lunchtime record store run, I picked up these LPs:
  3. Moravec's Chopin is amazing. I think that's one of the strongest recordings of the "Babi Yar," right up there with Kondrashin's. Rozhdestvensky's entire cycle is very interesting, I think. A unique perspective.
  4. Lots of interesting stuff there. Thanks for the heads-up, felser. As a Roland Hanna-ophile, I would definitely recommend Time for the Dancers. It's one of Hanna's finest trio records, imo. But don't expect it whack you over the head. It's subtle. But keep listening... after a few spins, it starts to reveal itself, until finally, "Wow!"
  5. Cal Tjader - Puttin' It Together (Fantasy, 1974)
  6. Count Basie -- with and without Sinatra:
  7. Just found this Clare Fischer LP today: Ralph Carmichael Presents the Multikeyboards of Clare Fischer - Love Is Surrender (Light, 1970) Weirdly unsettling. Also: Katia and Marielle Labèque - en Blanc et Noir: The Debussy Album (Philips)
  8. James Moody - Another Bag (Argo, 1962) James Moody - Hey! It's James Moody (Argo, 1960)
  9. Dizzy Gillespie - Something Old, Something New (Philips) as heard on this: Also sampling -- via Bandcamp -- a new release by Bram Weijters & Chad McCullough called Pendulum.
  10. James Moody - Moody's Mood (Chess) LP 2
  11. Such a great record! One of Cannonball's best, IMO.
  12. NP: Earlier: Excellent.
  13. Duke Ellington - Duke's Joint (Buddha) Duke Ellington & Count Basie - First Time! (Sony Legacy)
  14. Duke Ellington - New York Concert: In Performance at Columbia University (MusicMasters Jazz) It's always fun to hear Duke in a trio setting.
  15. LPs I've been spinning today: Bill Barron - The Next Plateau (Muse) Benny Carter & Dizzy Gillespie - Carter, Gillespie, Inc. (Pablo) Buddy Tate & the Muse All-Stars - Live at Sandy's (Muse) I was listening to that last night. Such a wonderful record; one of Fortune's best, I think. I'm sad that he's gone. RIP
  16. Earlier today and again now:
  17. Bobby Hutcherson - Head On (Blue Note) An atypical Hutch record because all of the pieces (except for one CD bonus track) were written by Todd "Bayeté" Cochran.
  18. While commuting into work this morning after a week of vacation: Johnny Lytle - The Soulful Rebel and People & Love (Milestone; reissued by Real Gone Music) Outstanding music -- jazz or soul jazz or whatever it is. NP: Kenny Barron Trio - Lemuria-Seascape (Candid) One of my favorite Kenny Barron records. It's like home cooking; it may be familiar but it always tastes good.
  19. I'm not a reflexive Jarrett fan, but I think he made some SUPERB music with his "American Quartet" on Impulse. Also agree completely regarding those Impulse 2-in-1 recordings. So much great music there!
