  1. Prompted by Larry's thread elsewhere on the forum:
  2. John Hicks - Live at Maybeck Recital Hall, Volume Seven (Concord)
  3. Just ordered these two LPs from Dusty Groove: Mickey Tucker Trio - Sweet Lotus Lips (Denon) with Reggie Workman & Horacee Arnold John Hicks - Some Other Time (Theresa) with Walter Booker & Idris Muhammad It's payday.
  4. Some excellent Tony Williams on that one. NP:
  5. Holly Hofmann - Tales of Hofmann (Azica, 1995) Holly Hofmann (fl); Bobby Shew (tr); Bill Cunliffe (p); Bob Magnusson (b); Victor Lewis (d)
  6. Now listening to the music with Harrell, Cox and Hart.
  7. Mike Wofford Plays Gerald Wilson: Gerald's People (Discovery) with Rufus Reid (b), Carl Burnett (d), and Richie Gajate Garcia (perc, on a few cuts)
  8. The Dave Brubeck Quartet featuring Paul Desmond - Stardust (Fantasy) Is it a cliché to say that I like the pre-Morello DBQ recordings best? Whether it is or not, I do.
  9. Warne Marsh Quartet - Ne Plus Ultra (hatOLOGY)
  10. Yep! Now listening to some late-period Brubeck:
  11. Fantastic! I wish Elemental would've reissued this one in their Xanadu series. NP: Louie Bellson Big Band - Inferno! (Concord) Disc 2 - Originally released as Dynamite!
  12. I agree 100%. Yep! As close as we're going to get to sitting in a bar full of jazz fans, shooting the breeze, hearing who likes what.
  13. I'm looking forward to hearing this: Being released by Sunnyside on September 29th. Bandcamp page here.
  14. I'm with you, kh. I like Horn Culture too. I'm also thinking of the old saw, "One mans trash is another man's treasure." One of the glories of music is its subjective value. Bobby's only dud (imho): Much of the blame goes to Wade Marcus. I'm no fan of his arrangements here.
  15. Martial Solal - Nothing But Piano (MPS) Another solo piano recital by a Frenchman. Solal's approach is very different than Petrucciani's, much more digressive and witty. I love them both.
  16. Michel Petrucciani - 100 Hearts (Concord / George Wein Collection) Terrific solo piano, full of joie de vivre.
  17. Sir Roland Hanna is one of my very favorite musicians -- and he was remarkably consistent. But this LP is a stinker. Even the cover art is bad.
  18. Don Menza Quintet featuring Frank Rosolino - First Flight: Complete Recordings (Catalyst / Fresh Sounds) Thanks to the forum member who hipped me to this record. (I don't recall who it was.) I saw it on this thread a few weeks ago and decided to spring for it. Sounds good so far!
  19. Bill O'Connell - Rhapsody in Blue (Challenge) Really enjoying this lately.
  20. More WS with Tone Jansa: Tone Janša Quartet featuring Woody Shaw - Dr. Chi (Timeless)
  21. Listening to this again: Woody Shaw with Tone Jansa Quartet (Timeless)
