January 8, 2008 Man Who Hid Knives in Pants Stabs Self By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 11:12 p.m. ET GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- A man who hid hunting knives in his pants to try to steal them from a western Michigan store tripped while fleeing and stabbed himself in the abdomen, police say. The suspect was hospitalized after Monday night's attempted theft from a Meijer Inc. superstore in Grand Rapids and is expected to face a misdemeanor shoplifting charge, police say. The wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, The Grand Rapids Press reported. The man had put about $300 worth of hunting knives in his waistband, police told WZZM-TV. Police say he tried to leave the store, but Meijer employees confronted him and a scuffle followed. The man then fell and was stabbed by the knives he had hidden in his clothing, police said. They said it happened about 5:40 p.m. ''The man was taken to the hospital,'' said Meijer spokesman Frank Giuliano. ''We are cooperating with the investigation by police.'' Police said the suspect has a record of retail fraud. ''I saw a man laying down on the mat by the carts, a knife by him with blood on the full blade of the knife,'' shopper Heather Dodd told WOOD-TV. ''It was not a dull kitchen knife or a sharp butcher's knife, it was somewhere in between. ''Someone was holding him down so I just walked around him, grabbed my cart, made sure everything was OK and got out of the way.''

I'm sorry to hear about all this, Beri. I think he needs a new lawyer. -
That's where I went. For the most part, the free ones had the best programming. :rsmile:

yeah, sure...an all you can eat pizza joint on Times Sq. That sub station is a block north of all those Sam Ash stores on 48th st... -
You also might want to write the folks who are programming the series a letter expressing how you feel.
-
Yeah....but...he does have a point about starting your own series. It isn't easy to raise the cash to program a concert series. Around here it can be problem just finding a venue. And they expect to get a chunk of the action too. I make my vote by not attending.

Not too much in 07. David Torn's Prezens at Joe's Pub - exciting, but the sound could have been better. Torn had an amp that was way too powerful for the room, so he was louder than the PA and I had a hard time hearing the rest of the band. Alice Coltrane Memorial at the Cathederal of St. John the Divine - discussed this in another thread... It's not like the old days, when I was constantly going to shows.

January 5, 2008 Report: Spears Released From Hospital By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 6:24 p.m. ET LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Television's ''Dr. Phil'' McGraw said Britney Spears was released from a hospital Saturday but still needs psychological help, the syndicated programs ''Entertainment Tonight'' and ''The Insider'' reported in a press release. The troubled pop star was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by paramedics Thursday night after police were called to her home because of a dispute involving the two sons she had with ex-husband Kevin Federline. ''My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention,'' McGraw told the programs. ''She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her,'' he said. McGraw planned to talk more about Spears on his daytime talk show this week, the press release said. Responding to an e-mail request for further comment from McGraw, a ''Dr. Phil'' publicist referred The Associated Press to his statement posted on the etonline.com Web site. Medical center officials have had no comment on Spears, and authorities have given no full explanation of why she was hospitalized. The incident at Spears' home lasted several hours. A Los Angeles police spokeswoman said Friday that officers at the scene determined that paramedics ''needed to be called'' but it was unclear why. A message seeking comment from Spears' attorneys at the law firm Trope and Trope was not immediately returned Saturday. At an emergency hearing Friday, a court commissioner suspended Spears' right to visit sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. The commissioner also gave sole physical and legal custody to Federline. Previously, Federline had temporary custody and Spears had court-monitored visitation. The court set another hearing for Jan. 14. Spears and Federline married in October 2004. Her life has spiraled downward since their divorce in July. She has been photographed without underwear and appeared to be drunk and out-of-control in public. She shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella and spent a month in rehab.

Something I wrote in the Moral Mandate? thread: Years ago, the Princeton Record Exchange had a ton of CRI vinyl for real cheap. E4th & Broadway Tower NYC used to go down and buy 'em to sell at their own store. Someday, when I get a new turntable, I'll be able to check out my CRI vinyl again!

have a good 'un. It's birthday season!

Looks interesting. There's problems downloading now, I'll try later.

It would be real easy to make jokes if it wasn't so sad. She needs to stop drinking and/or drugging, go to meetings and get a sponsor. ASAP. Getting totally out of the public eye wouldn't be a bad idea too.

I'm curious! I'll start a CRI thread, there was a lot of good material on that label. Years ago, the Princeton Record Exchange had a ton of CRI vinyl for real cheap.
