I want to get this on CD, my turntable hasn't worked in years. But I'm not too thrilled about the import price. Hell, CDs cost way too much in NYC anyways!

My copy came today, I'm checking it out now. B)

I don't own any because when they first came out, there wasn't anything I was interested in. Then, for a few years, I wasn't really listening to too much jazz. I went through my 20th century composer phase, then a few years of Hindustani raga and now I'm listening to jazz again. That Elvin Jones Mosaic box is looking interesting......

What JSngry said. Amen. Wasn't it Gil Evans who said Miles reinvented the trumpet? I listen for that in any player, I should be able to ID the cat with a few notes. Jon Hassell is another trumpet player who does that for me. Name a young trp player who does that, I'd like to know who he is.

It could be interesting if they got Elvin to play. He seems like such a big influence on MM during the Experience days.

I wonder if this was a sub event? Alexander, I'll admit I over reacted. But I can't say I'm all that interested in the reaction of a clueless audience member who's there for the wrong reason. "What's he doing?" seems like an inocent question. "What is this shit, it doesn't sound like what Winton normally plays." is another story.

What makes you think those are the people that went to the show? I went to two shows when he played there in July '97 and I hardly think of myself and other people who here there as "uber-conservative".

I'm with you on the standards, and the one ghost trance performance I saw was appalling, but boy am I glad I saw him with Holland & Altschul (a sweltering night at Studio Rivbea). I have to be in the right mood for the Ghost Trance music. I don't think his minimalism pieces are very good minimalism (and I don't think GTM is minimalism). I think I've heard him perform three times: solos and duets with Evan Parker at the Greenwich House Music School in '94? a show at the Knitting Factory, and a show at the Kitchen.
