  1. I missunderstood your usage of it. I'll check the links in a few days when I have more time. Thanks for the thoughtful response. I didn't know that, but I do know I didn't look very closely at your web site. We're local, sorry if you thought I was attacking you.
  2. Well, it feels pretty huge when you're driving a large U-Haul from one end to the other. In any event, it's only a little smaller than Brooklyn (60.9 square miles vs. 78.5 square miles). See for yourself: http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/JordanLevine1.shtml Look at the table on the bottom of the page. SI is the third largest burrough, and sencond largest in terms of land use. Actually, I just checked wikipedia, and it says that SI is the largest burrough at 102 square miles, compared to 96 for Bkln. This is actually what I thought all along. Not sure why different sources say different things, but wiki quotes the US census bureau.
  3. Wow, it's been a long time since I've been there. A very nice place, the building is based on a Tibetan temple. The Newark museum has a bigger collection that's real nice too. Real close to the Newark train station.
  4. Maybe a piano would be good for all the reasons listed above. A synth could work for a couple of years. I thought of suggesting a huge Ludwig drum set with double bass drums because you live in NY and I live in NJ. Sort of like a John Bonham set, but with double bass. And lots and lots of cymbals.
  5. I started with piano when I was 7. Briefly on Clarinet for a "while" a year or two later. My parents decided to stop Clarinet, because two instruments were too much for me. I'll have to ask them about that. All children are born with absolute pitch? So from birth, they can sing 12 tone equal temperament, a man made tuning system that, historically, is a recent development? With all due respect, I know you're a Jazz historian, but I've been working with tuning systems, the harmonic series (aka Just Intonation) and microtones for 11 years and I'm not too sure this is true! I've even heard radio programs where Johnny Reinhart of the American Festival of Microtonal Music in NYC demonstrating how children singing nursery rhymes are singing simple harmonic series intervals. Joe G? Some thoughts?
  6. Staten Island huge? I drove to Brooklyn this afternoon. 12 miles from the Bayone Bridge, down the SI Expressway to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. It's small island! Maybe you're getting it confused with Long Island? New Jersey?
  7. And NJ Transit is very safe!
  8. Take the Air Train monorail to NJ Transit to NYC Penn Station. I don't remember how much it costs, but it's cheap. I live about 10 miles south of the airport, I've used it the last four times I flew.
  9. I'm glad it's not just me. Ah never could stand him.
  10. Hm..Wish You were Here. After that it was all down hill.
  11. in no particular order: jazz, booze, organissimo forum and my biggest regret: not much sex, not much.
  12. Sheesh! It's about time you let go.....
  13. Well, yeah!
  14. My thoughts too.
  15. Don't worry 'bout it. It isn't about music.
  16. I'm with you. I don't think about this shit when I compose or play!

    Pat Martino

I bought Live at Yoshi's today - what a kick ass album! I just finished my 2nd listen. I own some of his older stuff: East, Starbright, Exit, We'll Be Together Again, Footprints, First Light. But this is the first I've heard of his recent material. Now I guess I'll have to work on picking up all the rest!
  18. I've had them in cases from both internet and retail stores. Maybe they're inserted by the label and activated by the store? Maybe the internet vendors have some kind warehouse security? Is the answer encoded in Stonehenge as well? Roswell?
  19. No, really - store security.
  20. They're there to track your every movement after you leave the store!
  21. Sat. - gig Sun - jam with flute & percussionist.
  22. When I was a kid, there was a music teacher at camp who did that. Pretty cool.
  23. Ney. And after living in the area all my life, I've only been there once.
