  1. DOH! My only excuse is that that one was CD Chris Albertson & this one is TV Chris Albertson, and have you ever seen them in the same room together at the same time, huh, have you?

Well, it did say "many" times, so you gotta think it's a generalization. Plus, this was still pre-"comeback" for Hill, a time when he might have still had some, for lack of a better term, "disillusionment" over having done so much and having so little materially to show for it. When you get like that, you can get dark about darn near everything...
  3. You're welcome! I think that the "militancy" (in the non-violent sense) expressed here should be particularly kept in mind when listening to both the Lighthouse & Last Sessions material. Or not.

Yeah, like confusing Barney Kessell & Bobby Hutcherson w/Larry Coryell & Gary Burton!

  7. Found this note from Johnny Pate in the 10-26-72 Down beat:

  9. Another full page ad (this time on page 17) from the 12-6-71 issue:
  10. On a personal note, Chris, this is the first time I've heard your speaking voice, and I hear no trace of an accent. Just wondering if that was something you conscientiously worked at early on, or if it just happened naturally.
  11. It appears to be a bit like ArtistShare although the number of bucks one would have to shell out are significantly less. Looks like - so far - folks here don't think the idea has much merit. I thought it was interesting... Oh, I think it has great merit, actually, especially now that it seems like the "recording industry" is going all to hell. Niche music can actually thrive like this, I think, unless the $ needs and/or the # of people wanting to provide product outgrow what the potential audience(s) can provide for, in which case musicians are going to have to start selling amongst themselves, and....won't that be fun!
  12. John Handy, eh? Wow...
  13. But to my knowledge, BN never took out full page ads in the earlier decades, especially not in such a premium location in the magazine. Their ads were usually single column (or smaller) ads tucked back in the record review section. Sure, that was in the Lion-Wolff days, but still, the size and location of this ad makes it seem to me like Bobby was getting some kind of special "push" by the label.
  14. HA! Just noticed the mention of Ray Codrington at the end of the Dave Mauney bit. Now there's a "Whatever happened To...?" name for ya'!
  15. This ad was actually page 3, the first page next to the inside front cover. Probably prime "real estate". So BN in '71 must have been believing in Bobby pretty strongly, no?
  16. 35 years can do that to people!
  17. Leonard Maltin actually turns up a fair amount in early 70s DBs as record/live show reviewer/and article writer. Who knew? And not a lot, but a little "feedback" on these things is welcome, just so I know that enough people care to keep doing it. It's not a total pain in the butt, but my setup makes it a little more cumbersome than it probably needs to be, so occasionally knowing that people are digging it is kinda nice, if you know what I mean.
  18. If there's enough interest, I will. BTW - have you checked out the Red Holloway Caught In The Act scan I posted in the Jazz In Print forum?
  19. Re: Arlene Lissner, mentioned as the soon-to-be Mrs. Mobley: http://www.founderstrust.org/staff/arlene.html
  20. It's like ArtistShare, right?
  21. I kinda think that getting more coverage was a big part of his scene, if you know what I mean. Like the man said, music is his business.
