  2. Probably one of the ones off the back cover of THIS Jackson cover... I wonder if he was growling "I'm entitled to you!" while he was gnawing...

  4. Not just calling games, either. Remember The American Sportsman? Just remember - when you've got more strikeouts than innings pitched, you've got stuff.

  11. Putting him on the cover wasn't, that's for sure. No, seriously, that first album had no little creative spark and energy of the moment. The second one just sounded like a record. Just my opinion, of course.
  12. Hmmmmm........... No.
  13. Survival of the Fittest is definitely worth getting. Straight from the Gate significantly less so.
  14. Oh, so now it becomes potentially relevant whether or not the men and women sampled were of the type who would be likely partners of each other. More good news to give the missus! Thank you, Epithet. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  16. Well of course I didn't. I don't understand too much of anything. Please accept my most gracious and specific supplications in your general directions.

  22. Yep. "Traditional big band instrumentation" inevitably refers to sections of saxes, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm.
  23. An excerpt of "Bewitched" from Monster: http://members.tripod.com/~LizAshmont/monsterlp.wav That's Oliver all the way - innocuous on the outside, totally wack on the inside. Also, what Doug Payne has to say about the Mosaic: http://www.dougpayne.com/on_rev.htm
  24. Managed to procure a copy of ROCK ALL NIGHT, and dig this - there is an instrumental played early on in the film, immediately following The Platters' two numbers, that has a two chorus bari solo that sounds like it MIGHT be Dolphy playing R&B. The swing of the player is not incompatable w/Dolphy's. And there's fleeting moments of tonal/harmonic manipulation that again would not be incompatible with how I'd imagine Dolphy would play on a strictly commercial R&B/Jump Blues type number. That's definitely him on screen, but is that actually him playing? We'll probably never know, but it's intriguing, if ultimately useless, to speculate that this might be an addition to the Dolphy discography. Anyway, if you're an insecure Dolphy completist and want to leave nothing to chance, you can get the movie here: http://www.thevideobeat.com/store/product-104.html
