  1. The original LP had neither gatefold cover nor liner notes.
  2. Alright, Dad, the rules have forever changed. Congratulations!
  3. ...tomorrow, THE WORLD!!!!!
  4. What Stan thought he heard:
  5. 12" in depth, not height. Height is cut to fit the distance between empty shelves, which in my case is 13 1/4". Headroom enough to stash a lead plate or two when the x-ray machine's not being used.

  7. Mostly agreed about the Warners stuff. HOWEVER... REJUVENATION boasts more than a few excellent cuts, as well as a cover for the ages. Twinkees & Ripple. The Breakfast of Champions!
  8. Yeah, I too have noticed that young(er), non-musician audiences show a real affection for the freer stuff. The old stuff they respect (sometimes), but the freer (and the funkier) stuff they seem to feel (why shouldn't they?). And I don't mean the "smooth" stuff, either. That's a whole 'nother crowd there. Now here's the funny/sad part - the types of creative jazz that appeals most to a younger audience aren't even considered "real" and/or "serious" jazz by a significant portion of the "jazz power structure", the people who book the clubs, festivals, etc. They're so busy looking for third-tier talent In The Tradition to replace the second-tier talent that's beginning to die off (after having a period in the spotlight replacing the top-shelf talent who died off several decades ago) that the notion that preserving something and keeping it alive ain't always the same thing. Ask any taxidermist.
  9. He was also the DJ for whom Mulligan wrote "Line for Lyons" as a dedication.

Spider Martin is a tenor player from upstate NY, iirc (Rochester?). He's one of those guys that plays around for years, sometimes w/some names, but never gets to do a record date w/any profile. Never actually heard him play, but those who have say that he's interesting, if a little "wild".
  11. Oh, I know that you know. Hope you know that I know that you know. Just don't let her start believing (or even consider the possibility) that she's "worthless". The mental battle is the key until the physical one can be won.
  12. She's not worthless, dammit. The doctors you seen so far, on the other hand...
  13. That's right. Center them in the middle of the shelf, or if it's a REALLY long shelf, use two and divide it into thirds. No need to fasten them if the shelves above are full. Gravity takes care of that.
  14. Don't have a digital camera, but I can tell you what I did - went to the lumber yard and bought a long piece of wood that's 1" thick X 12" across. Came home and measure the distance between empty shelves, and cut the long single piece into multiple single pieces of that length. Then, I placed them vertically between the shelves, so that the 1" side ran from top to bottom, and the 12" side ran from front to back. Basically, it's the same theory as splinlps setup, only the vertical seperation between cubicles is added after the fact, not built-in. Guestimating, I'd say that one of my shelves is about the lenght of three of his cubicles, and I've got 1 1X12 support in the middle of it. Hope that helps.
  15. Not a fan of his playing or anything (that sound kinda creeps me out, actually), but his long, ongoing giggage w/Kenton has long intrigued me. Who was he? Where did he go? When did he come from? Why/when did he leave Kenton, and for/to what? Not exactly a pressing matter, but any knowledge, anecdotes, etc., would be welcome.
  16. Don't let the Norah bashing fool you - some of us like her just fine. Welcome!
  17. Well, for one thing, we've added a lot of forums and threads besides this one!

The same can be said of many other types of jazz clubs as well. But many organ rooms hung on a little longer, because the genre was not afraid to incorporate elements of funk.
  19. Spumongi is fried muscatutti. Muscatutti is unfried spumongi. Been feeding them to my kids for years, or so I've told them...
  20. Either spumongi or muscatutti, I'm told.
  21. None received from you...
