Dad was of German heritage, Mom was of German/Irish/Native American. He was from Illinois, she fron Louisiana. They started married life in Illinois, then moved to Texas He hated rice and loved potatoes, she loved rice and made that adjustment.
Just saying, I learned to take the world "traditional" with a grain or two of salt. But never pepper. Dad thought that pepper was spicy.
I know, right?

Wiener sausages!
Mom used bacon, but hey. America.

That record with Basie is STRONG. More flava than one might expect, fully frontally flatbed.
Another record of the pairing that focused on ballads/standards.. lost opportunity...

Stitt/Baltimore is previously unreleased Left Bank stuff with , Kenny Barron.
And the Bubba thing has Jaws and Sweets...

Palo Alto concert was a private recording, not a commercial radio broadcast

Colored vinyl by a suspect label, I'm satisfied with my original pressings.
Those not so endowed might not have such concerns.
It's a truly great record that was released on a truly obscure and long-defunct label, how anybody gets it today is not really my concern.
Are there any masters to be had?

Simularly, what will they be giving us on the Miles? If it's just "first time on vinyl", then....mehmehmoomoo

I'd buy it just to read Keith Emerson's insights on Bird...
My hunch is that it's all been out there before, just not "officially".

My favorite Dodo story (and I can't remember where I read it) was that when Dodo was staying in the home of a musician friend, friend and wife went shopping , leaving Dodo alone in the house. On return they were amazed to to see lots of their furniture in the front garden. They found Dodo at the piano in a room otherwise bare of furniture. Asked why, Dodo said, "Man, the acoustics were't right".😃
Not that far removed from Sonny Rollins' mid-60s behavior in clubs where he would walk around the room looking for different sounds, sometimes going so far as to aim at different spots on the ceiling, just to check out the difference between the spot he was had just been in.

Smith probably(hopefully) signed a release with the radio company for that gig to be recorded.
The radio company now has legal ownership of that recording. Record Company is not a factor.
What happens after that is up to the radio company. If they make a deal with Jones, ok.
If Jones is acting unilaterally, he's a common bootlegger.
The releases are apparently a bit vague as to intended use past an initial broadcast/rebroadcast, but unless Jones got papers, he ain't got nothing but the bootlegging legs to stand on.

Head trauma's a bitch. And not yet not fully addressed/understood medically. But progress is being made!

That Roach/Shepp is Hall Of Fame material imo. They did another one for Hat that is better known, but Force is....oh my god, SO good.

Those three early-70s Blakey albums on Prestige are sort of under-discovered these days. Not saying they're "lost classics" or anything, but they are not at all full-on retro like he would sometimes do later on.
I remember Boyd's contributions as being solid and soulful, if not necessarily spectacular. Hearing him on a live date paired upwith Junior Cook is....intriguing.

Is this anything like what my mom used to make, called "German Potato Salad"? It was served warm and there was a bit of vinegar in it, but otherwise...

You'll have to decide that for yourself...here's a blurb about him: Sweet Sister Funk | Light In The Attic Records
This gem of an album from Ramon Morris, and one of the hardest to find on Groove Merchant, was recorded during what many people would consider to be the classic period for this particular brand of jazz/funk/soul/fusion. It was recorded not long after he’d spent time with Art Blakey as a Jazz Messenger appearing on his 1972 Prestige album Child’s Dance along with Stanley Clarke and Woody Shaw. He then also recorded on the Woody Shaw album, also from 1972, Song Of Songs. He now teaches at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
so now I guess the question is - what is the repertoire on this gig?
