It seems to me that the Coleman Hawkins-Benny Golson connection goes under-remarked.
I'd say Don Byas more than Hawk?

Ok, happy ending, let's move on.

Those MMO records were all standards. Some are still played, some not so much. Still, they're a great way to both learn tunes and to get exposed to same.
for example:
they all included lead sheet w/lyrics for C, Eb, and Bb instruments.

Detailed information is on the website, seek it out.
My work is blocking that website and I'm tired when I get home.

We usually discourage overt solicitation of this nature.
This one slipped by me, my bad, but going forth, let's be a bit more discreet in that regard, ok?
Thanks!

Are these airshots? Or what?
Interested, but wanting to better know what it is that is being "newly discovered".

Had Sirius in one car, liked it well enough, but not for the music, usually. Mostly for the OTR programming, which I still enjoy via several Roku channels on the tV. But the music programming....meh. And then meh some more. It kinda bugs me when I have to shut the radio off and play my own collection for surprise and delight.

Those records are a discograper's dream... or nightmare!
Before there were Aebersold records, the was Music Minus One. I grew up on them! Well, musically I did.
Hey, talk about learning about section playing when there was no section around...

How much "radio" listening is done via an actual radio, and how much is done via a streaming device?
Or are we calling those "radios" now?

Povel had some good spots in Maynard's bands as well.

Frankly, as consistently excellent a trumpeter as he is (which is very), if I want to hear him for original ideas, I'll listen to him with The Brecker Brothers.
I'm in NO way a purist about stuff like this. Ideas are ideas, period.

Dameronia was also on PaloAlto, right? Was Wong in on that as well, or was that all Sickler?

Ruby Braff was, like, what...Eddie Gaedel size?

"Thin" sound comes with the territory for this stuff. Not sure what they recorded on/with or at what tape speed, but I'd wager dollars to donuts that it was at best consumer tape at no more than 7 1/2 ips, quite possibly 3 3/4. You can certainly get a clear recording like that that's good enough for personal replay and such, but it's not going to be any better than that. Factor in mike selections...we're lucky to have it at all, especially after the passages of times.

Listening to this, pretty astonishing. Thanks for posting it
My pleasure, and look for the live PBS show too. Whoa.
That might be one of the best conveyances of a lyric...
