Oh my! Here's the "impulse trio" on Cadet...not what you might expect! but this is: and this is...and isn't:
-
I still say that's Aunt Esther on the cover.
-
Damn right! That's why when that's what you want, nothing else will do, and if that's not what you want, hey, don't blame them or yourself, just don't go there. Jimmy Ellis!!!! And check it out - two basses live, making the point, built from the bottom up! The best Disco is Liberation Music. The rest is Enslavement Music, but make no mistake, there is a difference!
-
Jean-Baptiste "Illinois" Jacquet born to Marguerite Trahan and Gilbert Jacquet in Broussard, Louisiana. I think you know how to pronounce that!
-
Ah, so he's covering all his bases then - the label should still be considered unauthorized when and where it is found, but all parties concerned are all good. I'm glad to hear that, really am gald.

on LP on Uptown: Singing.

Never heard it. But the cover dates it as being pre-70s, that logo. The samples on the site to me makes it sound lime a mostly "commercial" type thing, like maybe the lesse Willie Bobo Verves? until the last two cuts, which all of a sudden go...someplace else! The guy sure plays well, no matter.
-
That blog article is from 2014. when did you get that list? I'm thinking that the Transparency label stuff is still considered "unauthorized", but that the material itself is now under "authorized" ownership and is being released accordingly?
-
No, not at all. But it's there!
-
It was founded by the late Ron Thorne (with funding and early admin work by Scott Dolan) and after JazzCorner died, many of the regulars there tried both this place and that one and chose accordingly to which they liked. These days, there's not a lot of traffic there, but they still exist, still open for business. I still look in once in awhile, just because.

Leo Fagin does not have a totally spotless reputation, let's put it that way. Remember, he built his label on tapes of great music that had been smuggled out of the USSR. Great taste, and a noble enough cause, but who got paid how much for doing what, exactly? Transparency is a bit of surprise, but not necessarily. I mean, I believe that they got all that material from sources that they thought was legitimate at the time (and maybe it was), but, you know, maybe the new folks don't see it that way. And in fairness to them, this language is not exactly airtight, legally: https://sunraarchive.webstarts.com/history_of_saturn_records.html Remember, Sunny had been preparing me all along since the mid 70’s and it would be Alton Abraham and James Bryant after Sunny left the planet and prior to their leaving the planet who would give me complete authorization to do what I needed to do to perpetuate Sunny's legacy as I saw necessary via The Sun Ra Music Archive. That's an invaluable archive they have, hopefully it all ends well for everybody.

That backup site was a little mini-board that some guy (and fullest apologies for not remembering who it was) set up on his own, totally independent (subsite of his website, IIRC) and totally flick-of-a-switch-able. Other than being totally different from Facebook in every way, no not that different at all! If this place dies (and it will, one day). I'd prefer it be a natural death and/or an owner's decision, not b/c of well-intentioned Facebook-induced unintentional consequences. Don't let Organissimo get Odwalla-ed! Unless, of course, your preference is Facebook, in which case, it's already there. Likefriend or whatever it is how that works. Just keep in mind - it's corporate like a mo, no matter what they tell you, your data is harvested in a way ruthlessly and relentlessly, and...it's Facebook, for crissakes. As for other options (and yes, a Plan B is not at all a bad idea), this place is still around: https://jazztalk.net/ IIRC, the last time "we" did that to "them", there was bad blood, but now, who knows. Many people on both sites have died or otherwise disappeared, and I'd like to think that those of us who are left would have gratitude for each other being there in a pinch?

And those impulse! samplers were of their own music and of their own time. Very(?) effective evangelical/promotional tools. This "Influences On The London Underground" or whatever it is, that's a decent enough premise from which to start, but looking at the contents...it's jsut some more halfass PD musiporn. There's a lot more thoughtful mix to be made on the subject than this, but that would take work, money, and jsut....really caring about doing it right for the sake of getting it right.

Stranger things have happened, but not always with such pleasant results.

https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/underground-london-the-art-music-and-free-jazz-that-inspired-a-cultural-revolution-various-artists-3cd-capacity-wallet/ PD, perhaps, but still, "unauthorized", and I'm sure the estate would be happy if you bought that cut from an authorized source. Full disclosure - I've come THIS close to buying that above comp a few times more than once, but have always ended up deciding that it would be more fun to get the stuff I don't already have on their own, and hopefully from authorized sources. These kind of conceptual mixtapes are always fun, and often useful (enough), but....I feel less and less inclined to pay for them. After a while, all you really need is a list to go by and you then take the initiative yourself.

Please call that out the next time it happens to you. Pretty sure I can help. Now, if that's regarding the Search function, sorry, you're on your own there, mostly. But if you're using the search function for a thread that' just a couple days old...maybe some St John's Wort would help?
-
Am I'm not in any way meaning to imply or infer that he is, but how do you have a FB page that is only open "in case of emergency"? I mean, I don't know, maybe you can?
-
It's always a great time when you play for pleasure!
-
How would this work? Would it be open only in case of shutdown, or always open? And what if people decide to go there instead of here because there's a expense in providing this forum and none to FB, and then they can go to FB and stay there, will this cause this place to wither and die at an accelerated pace? Also, how would you let all board members know about this site once its up? Can't stop you or anybody else from doing Facebook, but how do you keep a Plan B from killing off Plan A? Or is that at all a concern?
-
almost all Revue, no problem.
-
Pretty much a staple by the early 70s, but they were alive before then! https://www.bsnpubs.com/stereoproject/stereo45s.html yeah, and some blooger has claimed to have them, only his files are of the LP tracks. JIVEASS HIPSTER!
