  1. Nothwithstanding the Jazz Times cover story, this release was not as heavily promoted as some of Osby's previous releases. It was not featured on the BN website until just a couple of weeks before it was released, which seemed unusual since Osby is one of BN's signature artists. In any event, I picked it up on Friday. It is fabulous. I usually shy away from standards (and tribute) albums, but Osby really has perfected the art making bold, innovative statements with standards (without using gimmicks). He takes standards and reconfigures them, but he retains that essential part of the tune that made it worthy of becoming a standard in the first place. This will definitely be one of the best new releases of the year. Highly recommended!
  2. Sounds really good. But it seems that this release was, for some reason, not as heavily promoted as other Osby releases.
  3. What would be your utimate Quintet? Mine: Sonny Rollins - Tenor Woody Shaw - Trumpet Philly Joe Jones - Drums Wilbur Ware - Bass Andrew Hill - Piano
  4. Moncur's "Evolution" is worth it just for "the Coaster," which IMHO is one of the best BN tracks ever.
  5. J.D. Allen is playing at the Jazz Gallery tomorrow night. However, an unnamed "very special guest" on trumpet is listed as the trumpet player. There has been speculation that the unnamed trumpet player is none other than WM , whom I have never seen at a small club before(there has also been speculation that the unnamed trumpet player will be Roy Hargrove). No one is sure. I'm considering being in attendance. Has anyone seen J.D. live before, and is he worth seeing even if WM is not the "very special guest."
  6. I was there last nite. Interesting, but I probably was not in the proper frame of mind to enjoy it. I know that Jemeel Moodoc plays at the JG often and I will try to catch the band again.
  7. No. The name is derived from my favorite saxophonist Rollins and my favorite pianist Andrew. I'm a Mets fan.
