  1. I only say that when listening to jazz. Then, I have to repeat the track. Oh, darn.
  2. IMHO, whomever owns Jazz Times will succeed because readers want to pay to read the writing. If it's good, he will succeed. If not, he will fail. There's no black and white in that. I do think his comments were frustration put into words. I'm willing to wait and see what will happen with the next few issues. He is right about one thing; Jazz Times has been on a downward spiral for some time. I didn't renew my subscription because I couldn't read the font without a magnifying glass. Time will tell and the clock's tickin'.
  3. Gopher it.
  4. Well, I finally did it. Got a hernia but pulled off the Mosaic Nat 'King' Cole box off of the shelf for the first time in years... my soul needs this...
  5. For me, I was trying to play trumpet like my older brother. I was probably about 12 years old when he gave this album to me as a gift. At the time, I wanted to play like Maynard; this was a change to my ears that I wasn't ready for. Over the years, my ears have grown a bit and now appreciate this album the way I should have to begin with.
  6. Go out and look at dirt. That's how old I feel. Bought my first Mosaic set in my twenties during the eighties. Close enough.
  7. From the Mosaic Jazz Gazette... the last pressing of this wonderful set is upon us. If you haven't already purchased this and you like Count Basie, this is a really good set to own. Without question, it's one of my most cherished sets. Ya snooze, believe me, ya lose. Blessings.
  8. Wow. Getting a little brutal in here. Time to go back to your own sandboxes. Listen to something you love (whatever that is...) and chill for a bit. Relax.
  9. If Mosaic wants a large set that I'm sure would sell, a complete Sun Ra on Saturn would fit the bill... So big, it might fill a room. I know... not gonna happen but I can dream.
  10. The other Richie would be good, too. Richie Cole with the Eddie Jefferson stuff. Most of it is/was available on CD.
  11. I love this place because I get to look up folks I never heard or gave much thought about. The only things I have of him are on other artists' recordings... Freddie Roach and Jimmy Smith. Guess I need to go back and listen to them again...

  13. In the FWIW department, I use JRiver Media Center which is now up to version 30 and use it only for audio files. I have most of my collection digitized and can search for most anything as long as I remembered to add the information to the notes in the tags. I've used it for years and it works well for me. It is not a discography kind of database but I suspect it could be used that way if you really wanted something like that.
  14. I made my contribution today. This forum has become one of the first things I look at every day. Blessings.
  15. Not a bad idea but I'm really nervous about deleting anything at the moment!
  16. I believe that much the same was said about Maynard Ferguson as well (except that it was added that he didn't have good taste which I generally disagree with until the disco years). The point was that people who like trumpet players of that genre tend to lead with their wallets. As far as I know, there are three Pacific/World Jazz albums and perhaps a couple on Cadet. He was definitely a west coast player during his career. An Al Haig box would be interesting. I honestly had never thought about that one. Didn't he beat a murder charge? Great player though. Another one might be Paul Smith. He did a number of Capitol albums in the 50s.
  17. Okay... did City of Glass not only kill my ears but this group as well? Any mods want to suggest an AOTW? Is there any interest in getting that fine tradition going again?
