  4. B. Clugston: I think yr correct on yr assement on the HORO issue. I have several HORO releases, including the RA's. I have the Rivers dbl lp set, and it IS awesome! Got a Konitz and a couple of others. Yea, they need a CD issue! ---HB
  5. Hey Brownie, 'Juba-Lee' by Marion Brown is one of my many favorites! Now I gotta' go dig it out and play it! Thanks for the reminder of this gem! -------HB
  6. A very (IMHO) great local trio called "NIGHTSHARK", self titled, no label, issued in a hand numbered edition of 33 copies! Trio consists of Guitar, Baritone Sax and Drums. There live shows kick many buttocks!! They have at least 7 CDs out, not all as limited as the abovementioned. Wax Trax Records, in Denver has various titles in stock. This is 'Jazz' in a very 'free' mode. Malkah, the Saxophonist, is amazing!
  7. Hi, Anybody know the FULL details on the beef with Charles Gayle & John Tchicai, whilst recording the album issued on Silkheart? I have heard several versions, the most common being that Gayle did not like Tchicai's playing/attitude. Anybody know the straight dope? ---HB
  8. Freddie Roach "Down to Earth" BN, orig. Given to me by Jello Biafra, of the Dead Kennedys. Grooovy! Percy France on Tenor!

  10. Mr.Nessa, Save yr quarters for some q-tips, nutty. Unflexible opinions are just that: Unflexible. Your guest is as good as mine!! ------HB
  11. Mr. Nessa, What exactly does yr emoticon mean? Are you being snide? (couldn't be!). I own most (98 percent) of the LPs you put out, and love them. What are your feelings about Arthur Doyle? C'mon, you can do it!!! -------HB
  12. Regarding the comment about Doyle: "He had problems." Well who don't?!? Esp. amongst 'free' jazz players! Drugs? Who cares!, Depression? Who cares! All other kinds of strife? Yes, we all have it to one degree or another! Does the Music matter? Hell Yes!!!! Can you pick up what I'm puting down? Get it. ------HB

What a piker!! I'll leave it at that for now, but I could ramble on about this subject. Y'all remember how much shit was talked about Taylor, Ayler....ETC? C'mon!!! Q-tips anyone?? -----HB
  14. I think Bird said it the best: "Either you hear it, or you don't" (a paraphrase). Or even better, Miles: "So What?" put 'em together, and you got an ideal mindset for 'free' Jazz. I really love Doyle, it's not just 'curiosity', it's one man's playing. And don't forget Doyle toured with many 'straight' acts, and also taught music. Free yr mind and yr Ass will follow. Shit, I like the Bert Larson LP! ----HB
  15. Earliar: Billy Harper "Black Saint" Black Saint. With hometown hero Joe Bonner! Right now: Guy Lafitte "Happy!" Black and Blue. With Hank Jones. Such a wonderfull tone!

  19. Art Farmer Quintet "MANHATTAN" Soulnote (SN 1026) With Kenny Drew, Sahib Shihab, Mads Vinding and Ed Thigpen. 1981.
  20. Does anyone on here know about an LP Eddie Harris released called "The Reason I'm Still Talking Shit"? Supposedly a "comedy" album. I have no idea what label, Heck, I know nothing about this, just word of mouth. HELP!! Thankee kindly!! ----HB
  21. Tom, Great stories about Spike!! Near the end, when he was in hospital, he begged, bribed and (good naturedly) badgered his visitors to smuggle some ciggarets and a wee dram of hooch. Wonderfull cat!! ---HB
  22. Chewy, I won't 'flame you for it', but that statement is riiculous at best. Think about what you said. It's nonsence of the W. Marsalis/S.Crouch caliber. We've seen the ultimately absurd'Homosexual" talk about Sun Ra and Cecil Taylor (I could name a bunch more 'gay' Jazz players), it means nothing!! White/Black, Straight/Gay, Does any of this crap have to do with the music!?! No, I think. This is a devisive point for many, but, IMHO, It need not be. Selah. Peace for All. ---HB
  23. Whoa! When I logged in it said something about this thread has been disabled!?!....WTF?!? Shiiit...., I just got done listening to: The Jimmy Woods Sextet Featuring Elvin Jones "CONFLICT" Original Contemporary, Stereo. Also: Dodo Marmarosa, Dodo's Dance. Spotlite (SPJ128). Swell. ----HB
