I'm sorry. I forgot that you're from Miami, and after someone mentioned it, I felt pretty bad. I hope all is alright for you down there. Like we even had anything that wasn't a sports page in the last week...sheesh...

That says more about the foolishness of the American public than it does about the absolutely fantastic pitchers' duels that were going on.

At all of 41, he's gotta be in contention for it.

Well, the Astros pitching certainly did their part. The White Sox had to seriously work for almost every run they had (fluke home run and walk-in insurance run excluded). As excited as I am that we swept (the perfect ending to a pretty much perfect year), I would have liked to have seen us play the Astros of the NLCS, because it almost seemed like two different teams. It certainly didn't help matters much that the Sox seemed to slump a little bit after the first two games of this series. I think that if the White Sox of the ALCS and the Astros of the NLCS had met each other, this would've been a series to 7. But, seriously, my hats off to the Astros. Your pitchers are amazing, and it was a fun series to watch. That said, if I may gloat for a second here... NA NA NA NA...NA NA NA NA...HEY HEY HEY GOOD-BYE!!!! CHICAGO WHITE SOX: 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the Japanese just challenged us to a duel between the winners of the World Series and their champions. I think the Japanese would enjoy the south side, except for all of those moments when they're losing. So, where is Dan these days anyway?

Oh man, tell me about it. I watched Sunday's game at Catcher's (35th and Lituanica, and about 4 blocks from my childhood home). When Konerko hit that grand slam, people went nuts, and when Pods knocked out the game winner, there were more free rounds going around than I could count. I can't even imagine what tonight's game woulda been like down there. (tonight, I watched the game at work...grrrr...)

PUT IT ON THE BOARD!!!!!!! WHITE SOX TAKE 3-0 LEAD IN 14!!!!!!!!!!! SWEEP IN FOUR AND SAY NO MORE!!!!

My thoughts: South Loop has gotten too pricey too quickly. Wicker Park can be more expensive than Lincoln Park these days, but L access, club access and good food access can't be beat. I'm just south of Wicker Park in Ukranian Village, and I have to say that it might be the perfect Chicago neighborhood at the moment. Lots of public transit options (Ashland, Grand and Chicago blue line stops) 24 hour busses at Ashland and Chicago (the Chicago bus also goes to Navy Pier, which can prove helpful), cheap food, lots of cool stuff through the Chicago Park District (the Natatorium in River West is awesome, and allows you to swim in November) and ample parking. Now, if you end up with a car, I would check out the south side. The popular answer is the north side, because people like not being able to drive and being overcharged for everything. However, if you like things like a yard, cool bars and a good ol' fashion shih-cahhh-guh hot dog, then you gotta look at places like Bridgeport and East Pilsen. My $0.02, and worth exactly what you paid for it.

There's talk that the White Sox might want Damon, too. Actually, I'd love to see us pay the money for Manny or some other big bat. No matter what, Reisnsdorf HAS to know that he's gonna have to pay out some money to repeat this again next year. Hopefully, the idea of smallball doesn't go to his head. We need a bat. And if we had a Manny or even a Griffey in the DH spot, I don't think there'd even be a question about whether or not we'd take the WS or not. Of course, this being the white sox, there'd still be assholes out there rooting against us.

The only way I'll jump is if it means that the Baseball Gods (you know, the ones that cursed the White Sox for throwing the Series) are indeed working their way backwards and will spread their pixie dust on the CUBS next year. Then I'm all in favor of a White Sox championship. But til then, its GO CARDINALS or GO ASTROS. ←
-
first off... LET'SGOWHITE SOX!!!!!!! That said, I haven't seen much of the Cardinals/Astros series, but from what I have seen, both of those teams are champs. I think if we end up facing the Astros, it's gonna be a whole lot of 2-1, 1-0, 3-2 kinda games. That will make for some excellent baseball. And, by the way, what is it with East coast assholes? The guy from the Miami Herald who said that no one in America should root for the white sox because we play second fiddle to the cubs in Chicago should be bitch slapped. The guy obviously doesn't get the dynamic here. People root for the Cubs because it's trendy and cubs games are parties, not baseball games. I've talked to people that went to Cubs games and didn't even know the freakin' score! The south side is all about baseball though. Those fans are the most die-hard that I've ever seen. The White Sox deserve this one. They've earned it all season. Even if they don't win it all, it'll still be a beautiful season for the Sox, and for all of Chicago. Even the north siders will have to learn to be happy with the fact that CHICAGO finally took home a trophy. If we're lucky enough to bring home a world series trophy, and not just an AL trophy, that'll be even sweeter. Don't worry, there's room enough on the bandwagon for everyone. Feel free to jump on.

White Sox up 2-1 in the series. Props to Konerko and Iguchi who rule. And thanks to Ersted for getting greedy on that triple attempt. There, now we won one fair and square. Everyone happy now?

This guy makes no sense. An African Grey parrot has the intelligence of a four year old, and look at how small its brain is. That means that a travel-sized human's brain could easily be capable of figuring out tools. Sheesh.

Gambling: PowerBall Mania

Not if you take the possibility of split pots into account. ← right, but at that point, it's almost never "correct" to play the lottery. Which I would agree with, for the most part. -
There was obviously no doubt in the catcher's mind. If there had been, I'm sure he would have tagged him. You see that happen in nearly every game at some point. If there was doubt in the ump's mind, he should have called "No catch" rather than signalling third strike (or in addition to calling third strike). The catcher can hardly know what's on the umpire's mind if the ump doesn't speak up. Go Angels! ← Well, that's why you don't put an inexperienced catcher in a Championship game. I won't say that the ball bounced in the dirt, because it obviously didn't, but it did look to me like it could've been a trap ball. I don't know exactly how you'd call that. Root for the Angels in vain all you want, this is the White Sox year.
-
yeah, because the ump was actually Frank Thomas in disguise or something. It was a bad call by a blind ump, not a white sox conspiracy. If there was any doubt whatsoever, the catcher should've tagged him.
-
My biggest qualm is this: once we make the world series, all of the sports writers are going to say that we didn't earn it. Much like 1918, we're going to have a black mark all over this world series appearance as well. As for Ozzie, I don't blame him for not wanting to see it. What's done is done. What good does it do him to know at this point? Not to mention, it's not like he's going to be able miss it in LA.
-
I've gotta chime in here and say that I agree that it was a horrible call. I'm glad we got the win, but I'm sad that this is how we got it. I think these next three games just got a lot harder for the south siders. I've gotta say though, the pitching in both of these games by both sides has been nothing short of fantastic, though.

If you want to talk positive odds (what's in the pot is better than the odds against you), then it's proper to play the megaball at anything over $135 million. So, $220 million not only covers that, but comes pretty close to covering that AFTER TAXES even. Not a bad deal in my book. -
Nope, we don't. Of course, it doesn't help matters when we're making stupid plays left and right (Pierzynski stealing bases? WTF????). The Sox have to play some smart baseball against this team if we want to beat them. I hope this game proved that to them. Sheesh. The pitching in this game (on both sides) was just fucking amazing though.
-
so does the Sox v Angels series. I'll wait for the reruns.

The dishes and I have a very odd relationship. And it's one that is shared by many of my friends as well. I HATE doing them. Absolutely despise it. Don't mind practically any other chore around the house. Except for the dishes. But, once I do them, I am always amazed at how quickly I was done with them. And I do them everyday that I'm actually anywhere near my apartment (these days, only once or twice per week). But I'd still rather have a dishwasher. At least then, I could rinse everything load it in the dishwasher and split.

Well, then y'all are just about due for another one, doncha think? That said, I'm far from counting y'all out either. Boston's a proven post season contender, and I'm sure that you guys are all drooling over the idea of a rematch of last year's ALCS. So, I have to hope that Freddy works his magic on the road again today. Either Dan or I will be talking shit in about 2.5 hours or so, methinks... ← Well, start talking!!! Congratulations. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this last game once El Duque came in. If the Yanks get past the Angels, it definitely will be tough getting past the team with the best record in the AL. (To think that El Duque and especially Contreras might do us in, ugh!) ← Dude, that game totally messed with my head. Garcia pitched well, and then we brought in Marte(?!?!?!?), and when the bases were loaded, I was shittin' my pants. El Duque is my new hero. It sucked though that I couldn't watch the game from the 6th on, and the AM radio in my car doesn't work, so I was tuning up and down the dial for any news on the way home, and sure enough, I heard the final score, drove to the closest bar and got a beer down with all of the south side houligans. I'll be the first to admit that I'm worried about us going up against either the Angels or the Yanks. We've got better pitching than the Yanks, I think, but the Angels are truly a rock solid team, and we didn't do well against the west coast at all this year. At least we split 6 with NY. I do like the fact that whoever we face in the first game of the series is going to be totally drained for the game Tuesday. That should bode well for us. Time will tell!

I liked the first two albums by the Bad Plus. Give and Suspicious Activity have seemed like ass on a stick, however. That said, Happy Apple is a motherfucker of a band. I've dug everything they've done. Of course, I liked Night of the Cookers, too.
