  1. Aren't your picks in sports always wrong? If you're picking LA and Boston, that means that we'll trounce the pantyhose and slap the yanquis around, all so we can lose to St. Louis.
  2. One game doesn't send you to the ALCS. Lose 3-2 or 14-2 we're still down 1-0. And in 2003 we were down 2-0 to the A's and swept three straight. So, no, you don't get any respect for one win. Win two more, and my hats off. Win 6 more and I say, nice job. Win 10 more and I'll say "congratulations, clearly the Baseball Gods are working their way backwards: The Sox win it all, then the White Sox, clearly next year it will be the Cubs to end the misery." ← Fair enough. But a win like that certainly gives me more hope than I had going into yesterday at 3pm, that's for sure.
  3. Spoken like someone who has never seen the White Sox play. The Sox don't suffer from bad play, they simply suffer from the worst ownership on the planet. The year of the strike, we were the best team in baseball, and Reinsdorf was practically begging for a strike. Then we see the fire sale that wipes us out when we're only 3 games out. Then this year, we're standing on top of all of baseball, and Williams and Reinsdorf refuse to look for any big bats whatsoever. I would assume that a 14-2 blow-out would demand a little respect, and for any other team in the majors, it would. But for the Sox, even if we win the whole thing, everyone will still blow it off.
  4. Personally, I can only assume that the trash talk between now and Sunday will be legendary. I don't doubt, at this point, that y'all will kick our asses, but you never know, and I'd be happy as hell to be wrong. I'd like to see our winning streak to continue here. five in a row is sweet, but we've done 8 in a row on a couple of occasions this season. Here's to hoping for another one.
  5. I was prepared to be magnanimous and congratulatory til I saw this, and now all I can say is FUCK YOU and btw, PAPI homered in the eighth to tie and singled in the winning run in the 9th to preserve the World Champion's hopes for another couple of days at least. ← somebody needs a hug.
  6. Let's see here... The White Sox just clinched the central division. Let's face facts, Cleveland will eat us alive on this last series. The red sox will fall to the yankees, freezing the red sox out of the playoffs completely. Oh, how it must suck to be a red sox fan today.
  7. Re: Robert Johnson...Muddy Waters was right. The Blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll. All of the Blues greats should get a nod by the R&R HOF because no blues = no rock and roll. And considering the number of rock icons who would agree with that statement, EC, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, well, they're only the biggest names in Rock and Roll ever. Re: Miles Davis...Bitches Brew and especially Jack Johnson are rock if I ever heard it. Re: Minutemen, King Crimson and The Sex Pistols not getting in: the people at the R&R HOF have got to be kidding me. Each one of those bands re-invented rock and roll on THEIR terms. Not nominating or inducting them is like making indian food without curry.
  8. Well, the other thing is, we've dominated our division when playing against other AL Central teams. We'll take two of three from the indians, probably sweep the Twins, (both at home) and then deal with Detroit and the Indians again. I think we might very well clinch this thing in the next week, especially with each of these next three games counting as two for the magic number. These next 12-13 games, I think, will energize us. Boston would be a bitch. However, we've been so-so against the L.A./Anaheim/California/Left Coast/San Andreas/Can I get sprouts on that please? Angels, and a well energized team could take them on, I think. On the off chance that the Indians would take out the Red Sox, I think we could actually make it to the World Series. Where we'd get dominated by the Cardinals and swept in record time.
  9. Considering the damage that wild card teams have done in the past few seasons, yes.
  10. ba-dum-bump
  11. tell that to Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech. No, please, really, tell the guys in Tribal Tech. They get on my nerves. If their music is dead, they might stop.
  12. after hearing this, I was reminded of a movie quote...
  13. wow! I like the ticker! Congratulations to you, too!
  14. It's funny...that was my dad's first question to her!
  15. What fucking commitment does a firefighter have to FEMA? What the hell is this bullshit? People come ready to help and you're going to make them hand out fliers? I'm moving to India. Fuck this noise.
  16. And now that one can be had off the side of the road for $35 and a bag of beef jerky, that might be the way to go!
  17. Well, yeah. I've seen enough marriages around me both survive and fail to know that things are different when the ring turns from engagement ring to wedding band. However, I also know that if two people are well matched, they will be able to stare down adversity as a team. People change. Sometimes they change on their own, and sometimes they are forced to change. But I also know that the human will is strong enough that if two people want something to work, that it will, changes and warts and all.
  18. No but she's got two brothers...one of which is a really great shot with a shotgun, which I admit, scares me a little, but, ummm, hey, feel free, dude!
  19. She's fantastic. You know, I had kinda just said "to hell with it all" before I met her. I turned down dates, I just wasn't at all interested in meeting or hanging with anyone. I wrote a lot more and practiced a lot more, but outside of a few friends, I had no interest in being linked with anyone romantically. And then, all of the sudden, out of nowhere comes this woman who loves many of the same things that I do, that thinks that Vandermark is boring because he isn't willing to take enough chances musically (I busted out some Anthony Braxton, she dug that...), digs all of my friends, actually finds my quirks either amusing and/or adorable, is smart, thinks about religion the same way I do, reads the newspaper with fervor, and is just awesome in every way, and yet, in the ways in which it would be adventageous for her to be different, she is. So, yeah, I have found the woman that I do believe is absolutely perfect for me. Thanks for all of the kind words, folks!!!
  20. Not much else to say...I'm a happy, happy guy right now. I will post pictures of happy girl with sparkly ring when I get a chance!!! Wedding hopefully happening in June of '06!!! Woo Hoo!!!!
  21. If anything, it (and any other Katrina related threads) should stay right here where everyone can see them. Regardless of political affiliation, you can see where the democrats in Louisiana dropped the ball, and the republicans in DC dropped the ball. Beyond that, we're all Americans, and therefore this is everybody's story. If you haven't given to a charity, sent clothes to the salvation army or done SOMETHING to help out, you're a total fuckwad, plain and simple. And don't give me this shit about, "I don't have it right now." These people down there in NO, Biloxi and other gulf towns don't have ANYTHING. You can spare $10, a can of green beans and an old shirt. You don't get to not see people talking about it simply because "it's a political issue." Personally, at the moment, I am ashamed of most of my friends. I sent out an appeal by the Robert McCormick foundation offering to match every dollar sent up to $1,000,000, and only three responded. Is that what this country is coming to? If it is, then there's a pox on all of our houses, each and every one of us.
  22. Politics and this have everything to do with each other. I will save the cheap potshots for another thread, but I think this needs to be said: Regardless of political affiliation, regardless of past actions which one may or may not agree with, these two quotes are atrocious. If Clinton had said them, I'd be outraged, and if a libertarian had said them I would have been outraged as well. For the first quote, I don't think he quite gets it. These stores are more than likely not reopening. These buildings will be flood damaged, probably beyond repair. They're in no shape to sell anything, when these items NEED to be sold. And if they can't be sold, then they need to be taken. And sorry Mr. "Christian" president, but have you not read Proverbs or the law books of the old testament, where it clearly states that if a man needs to eat and cannot pay for it, then he is permitted to do what he has to do to eat? The people stealing TV's are a different story, but life has ways of sorting these things out, and they'll get theirs. For the second quote, well, if people can't see the stupidity there, well, then heaven help them... This is a time in American history where politics should be on the backburner. But, with quotes like this, these politicians are doing it to themselves. They too deserve whatever they get.
  23. "Medieval" seems to be about where the situation is at there. ← Yeah...and I feel more terrible by the minute that there's nothing that most of us can physically do to help.
  24. My take on the looting: Food, Water, Diapers, even clothes: this is needed stuff, and anyone that complains about it, considering that nobody's in a position to sell it, can fuck off. Plain and simple. There are times for capitalism and there are times for understanding. This falls into the understanding category. TV's, Jewlry, Toasters: fucking idiots. Guns: those fuckers should be shot on sight. Nobody's stealing those to collect them. When people start firing on those there to help, it's time to get medieval on their asses.
