  1. Our CD is out today, and tonight, we're at Andy's for the CD Release Party! come join us for the fun and frivolity! And for those who would prefer to come out for a weekend show, tomorrow night, we're at Joey's Brickhouse, 1258 W. Belmont, in Chicago. Hope to see all the Chicago type folks there!
  2. CD RELEASE PARTY THIS WEEK!!!!! WOOO!!! I only get to get excited about putting out my debut CD once, so, I'm excited. This week. at Andy's. We hit at 9. Be there if you can.
  3. thanks! 5/8 of the album is up on our myspace page. The only tunes missing are La Vie En Rose, Amazing Grace, and one of my originals. Everything else is up and ready to be perused. www.myspace.com/paulabellatrio enjoy!
  4. Back again tonight! Our CD is being printed as we speak, and it'll be all ready for the CD release party next week. In the meantime, we're bringing out special guests to jam on some of our favorite songs this week. Should be a fun time. It will be even more fun with YOU there to hang with us! So, you, Chicago based Organissimo board people!! Come see my band tonight at Andy's!
  5. If the database is right, then... There are five of me in the country. And, I'm related to three of the four others.
  6. We're there in a few hours if anyone is interested...
  7. up, because we're back here tomorrow. If anyone from here shows up, lemme know, and I'll buy you a drink!
  8. well, thanks! The first one went pretty well. The funny part was (for me anyway), that even though this band's been together for a while, and playing 2-3 times per week, this was our first gig at a bona fide jazz club (as opposed to a restaurant, bar, yadda yadda yadda). A few friends came out, it was fun. I'd love to see some chicago o-board people come out. That would be, as the kids say, nifty.
  9. the title says it all. Join us for a grooving good time. September 27th is our CD release party! Woo! Of course, we have one hell of an act to follow, with Bob Dogan and Ryan Schultz. Hell, forget about me, go and see THEM. They hit at 5:30, we hit at 9. check us out at my very own personal website the obligatory myspace page
  10. What's funny is that there's been no mention of all of the awesome music that was happening on the side stages. Is everyone telling me that they missed out on... Pete Benson & Jeff Parker Erwin Helfer & Skinny Williams Astral Project Mulligan Mosaics Band the Charlie Haden jam the Janice Borla Group Matt Geraghty etc, etc, etc? Most of that stuff was groooooooooving. I'm glad my tent was practically right on top of the Jackson stage.
  11. So I think you are playing on Friday at Joey's Brickhouse on Belmont? Are you actually starting at 9:30 or is 10 more likely? And is there a cover? I'll probably drop in for a little while, since I will be in the neighborhood. We'll probably actually start at 9, play till 1am. No cover, and the drinks are reasonably priced. Please make sure you introduce yourself if you come on by. (ditto for anyone else that drops in!)
  12. Matt Geraghty has this cool world-jazz fusion thing going for him, and I absolutely recommend him.
  13. Tell that to someone with one of those huge ass RV's.
  14. Hey, if a whole bunch of Organissimo-ers are going to be in town, I will again float my Friday night gig at Joey's Brickhouse as an idea. The band might be mediocre, but the food is excellent. just a thought from an over zealous self promoting type.
  15. Well, I only know about two right now: The Paul Abella Trio @ Joey's Brickhouse 1258 W. Belmont (two blocks from Belmont red line stop) 9:30pm-1am Pianist Benny Green is playing with a vocalist at the Green Mill as well.
  16. Before that the sang into coconuts....I have no idea what I am saying... you're saying they put the lime in the coconut and drank it all up, they put the lime in coconut, they called the doctor, woke him up...
  17. I read somewhere that the medical condition in question was a major flare-up of herpes. I don't know why that would necessitate getting out of jail after five days, but hey, whatever works, right?
  18. I worked at a record store owned by the guy who invented the hitter box. That kid was simply in the wrong town.
  19. How many of those committed fans are there in the states? Maybe a few hundred thousand? And then getting the word out to those hundred thousand? Good luck. Insofar as Grant goes, they'd be better off putting out a top notch, actually taken seriously funk collection and aiming it squarely at the jam band crowd. But what do I know?
  20. bingo. delete the old one, bring out the new one. Create a little buzz about it, make a poster or two, and bam, instant success.
  21. Kevin, I won't disagree with you on the point of releases like this. However, I will quibble with their choices in songs. I could have thought of a much stronger Grant Green release, and a smarter still idea might be to come up with a ridiculously strong single disc of the straight ahead stuff, and another really strong disc of the funk stuff. This mix and match approach ends up hurting everyone except for the passingly curious. I agree with you: put out compilations of Grant, Herbie, Monk, Reuben Wilson and the Three Sounds every year or so, and then use the extra cash to put out something really cool and/or rare. Makes sense to me.
  22. uhhhh, other people would have to record it first. Lots of other people. As it stands right now, it's a classic. And there's a big difference there.
  23. I just put up a friend request. paul abella trio. Sorry if we're one of the weird/crappy bands, but I dig organs too.
  24. (watch how I do this without bringing up any religious points at all...) Sal, first off, I think you took me differently than intended. I wasn't getting at anything happening in any other thread in my original comments. That gets us to point #2. Someone stating their beliefs is not "shoving religion down your throat." Instead, it is someone stating their beliefs. I have never gotten upset with someone saying that they are an atheist. I have never even gotten upset with someone for expressing the views of their atheism. What I have a problem with is their condescending nature towards religious folk, and Christians in particular. And I seriously have a problem with someone telling someone else that they shouldn't talk about something that they think is relelvant to the conversation. And if you think that issues of spirituality aren't relevant to a conversation about caring for the elderly and what to do when they're ready to pass on, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. Sharply. As for your compliment at the end of your last post, thank you very much. And if you're interested, both Barry and I are playing in downtown Glen Ellyn on Saturday afternoon. PM me for details if you're interested.
  25. I hate writing this, Shrdlu, becuase I normaly really enjoy reading your posts and I think you're a great member of this board and are probably a really nice person, but you should really stop to consider if posting stuff like this might offend some board members. If it needs to be posted, there are pleanty of religion threads in the Politics forum. Carry on. Sal, when you make this exact same statement to some of the people who post anti-religious remarks, you'll be righteous in doing so. Until then, this has been the single most hypocritical thing I've seen in at least 3 or 4 hours. Carry on. P.S. I'm out in Aurora often (my parents live out that way). We should grab a drink some time.
