Finally pushed too far (MS Office)

Heh, still have to go a LONG way to catch up to Wind'ohs. I guess I haven't gotten that particular update just yet since nothing has been hijacked. I will certainly keep an eye out for it, though. Thanks for the heads up! -

Again, absolute foolishness. I wasn't born in the digital generation, and you're suffering from Golden Age Fallacy. Recorded and mastered properly, you'd never be able to tell the difference. -
Sonos, anyone here have this or think of getting one?
Scott Dolan replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Audio Talk
Thanks, David! I'll have to read up on that later. I already stream my music through Apple TV, so I'll have to see if that particular item is redundant. In my case I may need to stream to Sonos, yet have it fully integrated with my main system. (?) Or pehaps the other way around, but I'm not seeing anything that would make that possible... -

Eric, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Sonos actually works. I have some questions if you don't mind answering. 1. So if I were to get a Sonos 5, I could have music playing in five different rooms? Or is there a limitation? 2. I see that you can stream from an iDevice, which is how I'd run it. BUT, would I be able to also integrate it with my main system? In other words, I have my main system in my living room, so could I play music through that as well as through the Sonos system! That way I'd have music playing, for example, in the living room/kitchen/dining room/bedrooms/etc? If it's an either/or deal it might not be for me. And their website doesn't really answer that question. 3. can you add more single units later on if you want to? -
I hear that, Jim. This thread made me do some homework, and I found out that Google Chrome discontinued support for the QuickTime plug-in. That was a major sticking point for me as I first realized I could no longer play movie trailers from the iTunes website. That's something I check out several times a week as trailers tend to be far better than the movies they're advertising. At the time I simply thought that I had some corrupted file in Chrome, but now I see that the days of Apple and Chrome playing nice together is simply a thing of the past. While I have nothing against either Google or Apple, both warring parties should be given a swift kick in the nuts for the crime of douchebaggery.

Bookmark migration has become a nearly impossible act for all the browsers from what I've experienced in recent years. When I bailed on Chrome I couldn't get them to migrate to Safari. Later when I tried to get Opera up and running, I couldn't get my bookmarks from Safari to migrate... Perhaps I'm just missing a crucial step in both cases, but I've gotten to the point where I simply don't want the hassle of trying to beat these things into submission, so I just start over and make new bookmarks. Wish I had a better answer for you...

So reports of IE 11 being vastly improved are incorrect? We still use IE at work as well, but our computers are ancient and we're stuck with version 8. And GA, no reasons are necessary for getting away from that dead, bloated pig of a browser. Same goes for Firefox, IMO. It's gotten as bad as the IE I used to use when I first got into computers. Definitely give Chrome and Opera a spin. You could also uninstall/reinstall Firefox to see if that takes care of the problem it's been giving you.

But at that price, does it really even matter? I mean, I can see if it's some kind of incredibly rare item, or isn't available in any other format. But you can buy that album on cD for $8 from Amazon, for example. -
Well, I'll tell you… Chrome used to be the clear cut winner. It was as lean and mean as Opera, but heavily supported across these here intertubes. But, over the past year even it became problematic and buggy. Since I'm on a Mac, I've just been using Safari since I bailed on Chrome. But, at the end of the day it's no better either. My advice would be to download each browser you're considering, and take them out for some serious test drives. Because as I said, I don't think there is a clear cut winner amongst them anymore. I've even heard the new IE isn't all that bad.

Sorry, but there is nothing "useful" about perpetuating the hi-res myth. I've never owned a Sonos, but I've always heard nothing but good things about them. So why not enjoy the system and not be bummed about something that makes zero difference? -

Unfortunately, there is so much next level insanity in the audio world that it's hard to award such titles anymore. And some people have made small fortunes off of those desperate enough to buy into their bullshit. -

It always sucks when your audio gear cannot play sounds that you cannot hear anyway. -

The End Sure, but are we comparing a $100 CD player with a $100 turntable, or are we comparing a $1,000 CD player with a $1,000 turntable? What does it matter? -

I like that warmer sound. Fine, then say that instead of the ridiculous pronouncement you started this thread off with. I prefer the clinical accuracy of digital, but have nothing against the warm and fuzzy distortion you get from LPs. It's simply a matter of personal preference. Not some given fact. -

Clumsy wording on my part. I should have said it's no more of a listening experience than any other playback medium. There may be more exercise involved... -

Right there with you, with the exception I got rid of my LP's when we moved from Florida. If we hadn't made such a big move, I'd likely still have them. But, since I also stream to my main stereo, both they and my 1,000+ CDs would both be getting similar usage. Which is none... -

Vinyl is a fetish more than an experience. Music is the only thing you're listening to. You either prefer it clean and clinical via digital, or you prefer an extra helping of harmonic distortion for that "warmer" sound. -

But FaceTime is not a phone call. You're not dialing a number, you're connecting via e-mail accounts. And you can only make those "calls" between Apple devices. -

Yeah, an iPad (or any tablet, for that matter) is most definitely no replacement for a desk/laptop. I know Microsoft loves to crow about their Surface Pro, and perhaps it's close enough to having a laptop, but tablets are essentially toys. They can replace your laptop if you still have a desktop, and they can replace your desktop if you still have a laptop. But, they're essentially big ass smart phones that can't make phone calls. And from what I can see, tablets may be a suitable replacement some time down the road, but they aren't there yet. -
