new and up coming jazz releases? I can't seem fine it. Want to see what is coming up for the next few months.
-
I've used Aebersolds' play alongs. But after awhile of repeated use they get boring. The changes the musicians on the CDs play will always be the same. Nothing beat playing with live musicians. But, if you can't Aebersolds' CD's will do.

I was wondering why so many of the greats, such as Lou Donaldson, Jackie McLean to name just two aren't signed to any lable. I believe every records label has some form of a jazz section. EMI has Blue Note for example.
Can you think of any other Giants that haven't been recorded in a studio in quite some time?
I would like to see Blue Note doa new Lou Donaldson or Jackie McLean record.

I don't know if you would want to ask this, but what does he think the musicians who recorded on the label think about Prestige? Years ago Jackie McLean did a radio interview on WBGO in the New York area. He was asked what he remembered about recording for Prestige. Jackie replied he didn't like the label and that they were too cheep. He remembered once going into the front offices after recording an album with Miles and asked for a copy of the album for himself. Bob told him he had to pay for the copy. I believe Jackie said it was 90 cents back then. He told Bob he was one of the musicians on the album, "can't I get a copy"? Bob told him he has to pay like everyone else. In fact, if I remember the interview, Jackie said he was happy when the label folded.
I'm going to check WBGO web site to see if they have the interview in their on line interview archives.
I think this was what separated Prestige and Blue Note from one another. Blue Note would go that extra mile to make their artists happy, 2 day paid rehearsals and stuff like that. I don’t want to imply that all the artists on the label felt this way, but this was how Jackie remembered recording for Prestige.

For those that have seen live shows in NYC which jazz club do feel have the best acoustics for live music? It could be a club no longer around.
My vote is going to the Village Vanguard.
At the bottom of my list is going to be the Iridium. They always have gerat performers, but the sound is too flat for me.
Outside of NYC can you tell me any in case I ever visit a city and want to hear some live jazz.
-
I went and saw McCoy Tyner at the Iridium last night. They were all swinging. It was such a great show.
I just have one problem with the club, either the Acoustics in the club are way too flat, or the tech on the sound board needs to find a new profession. I could not hear when McCoy was speaking. Plus the bass player was so low, even when he was soloing.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: JACKIE OUT - ROY IN!
First the bad news. We regret to inform you Jackie McLean fans that he is unable to make the gig this week. Now the good news. ROY HARGROVE has graciously agreed to step in and join THE CEDAR WALTON TRIO for the entire week. So we're disappointed that Jackie can't make it. But we're excited to hear Roy with Cedar's trio.
This is all you get on line. I tried to call to see what happened and to see if I could my $34 back. No dice they told me. Nothing against Roy, but I wanted Jackie.

Jazz Groove,
Thanks for starting this thread!
I've been having a lot of fun at sharingthegroove.com
You're most welcome. I've found some really good stuff there. Not just jazz.
-
Has this every made it to CD? I have every other Art Blakey's Blue Note sessions but this one. I have never been able to locate "Holiday for Skins".
-
I don't seem to have problems with my firewall. It let's me through both ways. While you are downloading the files, you will also see an upload indicator along with the download indicator. My firewall hasn't caused a problem yet.
There are a lot of good jazz stuff. Plenty of Coltrane and Miles.
-
It's also included in the Mosaic set.
Yeah, but the Mosaic set OOP. I thought I saw somewhere it was coming out in the US soon. Can't remember where I read it.
-
At fist I have to say I was a collector. Buy what I can. Then I got married. Soon after that the wife popped out some kids, and I realized I could not afford to buy all those CD's like before. Now I am mostly a listener. I would say 80% to 20%.
-
Due you know if he is still doing live show? I heard he wasn't doing so well a few months back.
-
Can someone tell me if this is get reissued? I read somewhere that is was. Can't remember if it was RVG or a JRVG.
-
These shows should be great.
Does anyone know Jackie is signed to any label? I would like to see a new album from him.
-
I picked up the Leo Parker "Tell me About It", Spanish releae. The cover is a bit funky too. But the music is great.
-
I was wondering if there could be a second "One Night At Blue Note"? Some of the Blue Note Artists are still out there kicking.
We could Have
Lou Donaldson
Dr. Lonnie Smith.
Jackie McLean.
Jimmy Smith
Wayne Shorter
Herbie Hancock
Joe Chambers
Ron Carter
Cecil Taylor
Sam Rivers
Donald Byrd
Freddie Hubbard
Kenny Burrell
Grachan Moncur III
It could be a kick ASS show.
Anyone I might have left off the list?

"Hold On, I'm Coming" is also on the CD of Love Bug as a bonus cut, but as far as I know "My Cherie Amour" remains "rejected" and therfore unissued, as indicated above.
I feel the same way. I thought it was rejected too. I have the "Lost Grooves" CD. I don't see it on that CD, unless there are more then 1 volumn.

"Anyone today who does not say they were influenced by Big Sid, must not play the drums" — Louie Bellson, 1995.
That the photo insdie the Billie Holiday CD I was listening to before. If another drummer gives you high regard, you must have benn good.
-
Anyone have any insight on these players. I just listened to some Billie Holiday and was reading the liner notes. These 3 musicians I realized I never heard of before.
Joe Guy
Big Sid Catlett.
Lawrence Lucie.

I had seen it at tower in NY, but when I went back to buy it, it was too late. I never saw it again. I first thought it was on their "Blue Note does Motown", but I have that CD and it isn't on it.

From his album Love Bug "My Cherie Amor" was recorded but not released on that album. A few years back Blue Note released it on one of the complation CD's they put out. Anyone know which one that might have been?
Can someone tell me the web site for
