  1. They probably have not everything, but they have something that we dont have - I did some search at his site... When it is talk about other countries and when it is jazz concerned, things varies from country to country, at least in Europe. I was amazed how did they were carefull in issuing historic records of jazz in Hungary; I've also heard the same is with Czechs, and probably with many more people around the world. I wonder about the traditional folk music of European Countries. Are these recording getting lost, or they do a better job then the US? Jazz is America's one true atr form and it seems like great treasures can be lost forever.
  2. I'm still waiting for Lou Donaldson's stuff on Argo to reissued. Hopefully one day.
  3. There have been many jazz labels. A lot of them no longer exists. Some have had their catalogs absorbed by other labels. For example, Riverside is now part of Fantasy along with Pablo. 4. Here in the US, the library of congress keeps copies of copyrighted material. But how much of the early jazz do they have? How much of this music has gone the way of the dodo bird? How do other countries keep the tradition of their art forms from being lost to future generations?
  5. I could have included so many others, but thses were the top ten I could come up with.
  6. I could have included so many others, but thses were the top ten I could come up with.
  7. I've read a few years back that Curtis Fuller has only one lung which limits his playing. This most likely the reason for him not putting out much in the past few years.
  8. If the file was created as a MP3 it will never get back what it would have had if it were a WAV file from the start. To make the file size smaller something has to be lost. Most of the average listeners would not notice the difference. This could be said about CD’s to albums. There are some that can hear how much softer albums sound over CD’s. Digital recordings do lose the overtones which analog recordings capture. MP3’s just cut more of the nuances out of the picture.
  9. Is there a recording that you wish was availble? I would like to get a hold of Kenny Burrell's "Freedom." I would like to see Johnny Hodges' small group recordings he did on Verve records with Wild Bill Davis get issued on CD. "Joe's Blues", "Wings and Things".
  10. The fist for me was the Wes Montgomery Trio. I believe I was 10 at the time. He got me to want to play guitar, Never came close to his skills though.
  11. Great fucking Zeus!! I will never use the word great again. Shit, I just used it!
  12. Soon all of us here will be getting an e-post card for the new Norah Jones CD. It will be like one of those chain letter emails someone sends to you, requiring it to be sent to 15 others within the next 10 minutes or a great colossal calamity will be bestowed upon you.
  13. I bet the next set to make the last chance list will be the JJ Johnson set. It has been out there for a long time.
  14. I'm so glad I got mine 2 years agao. It is worth every dollar. Get it before it is gone. He was so underrated. I was happy a year or so ago when I read his widow recieved 2 checks each for 50 thousand. Intel used one of Blue's tunes in a commercial. Too bad he never got to enjoy that 100k himself.
  15. If you go to the Blue Note web site and read some of the reviews consumers write, there are some who seem to have problems playing some of the CD's issued with copy protection. This scares me! I agree that they have to prevent people downloading stuff illegally and making copies for others, but if the music is going to sound like crap, then I will never buy music that is copy protected. I read posts from others here and on other boards that some of the RVG's outside of the states have been released with copy protection, and the sounds has suffered. It seems to have made it way to the states like mad cow disease. There must be a better way for record companies to protect artists. Here were to reviews for the Van Morrison CD. Reviewer: Pete from Australia What a fantastic effort, arguably one of his best releases in many years. However I was furious to find that I had paid full retail price for a "CD" that works in only half my CD players. I refuse to be ripped off and won't be buying copy protected CDs from now on; so sad that I will miss music like this. Wake up Blue Note, you're losing the Reviewer: Ray from Florida I can only play this cd in my wife's car. Everywhere else it sounds like crap. What is this copy portection? It is killing the music. Reviewer: Ingemar Göransson from Sweden Van the man have made one of his best albums in years. A lovely wonderful album that really lives and swings like mad. I surely love this album. BUT the copy-protection makes it impossible to play it my car, on my freestyle but it plays great on my traditional cd-player. I travel a lot in my job and listen to hundreds of cd and I want to listen to the cds I want to listen to not the ones that happens to works on a certain player. I can understand that you want to get payed as an artist and that the record companys must make money to be able to record more great music in the future. But for heaven sake don´t come up with copyprotection that makes it impossible to play the records on cd-players that exist on the market. Own up record companys. But Van you have made your best disc in years and i love it. If you at Blue Note want to say something in your defense your welcome
  16. It will be great to see these Silver recordings come out on CD. I have them on vinyl. My only qualm with these disc is the vocals.
  17. I said, what the hell and signed up. I never heard anything. There is still a link on the Blue Note web page for to sign up for those that like.
  18. Just a to pass along this little note. I know this was a session that many have been looking for. I saw it being offered on ebay for buy now for $40. A little to steep. I already have it and must say it does swing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=43620
  19. No trolls. I remeber someone posting some stuff under my user name. Don't know how he or she figured out my password.
  20. I got to hear this recording. I have just about everything Horace ever did as a leader or as a sideman. I was under the impression he had retired. Glad to see he's back.
  21. The only part of the BNBB that I miss, was every now and then Tom from Blue Note would report in with some news of planned re-issues and stuff like that.
  22. I was wondering about all the great threads that were there and now are most likely lost. Did any of the former BNBB members ever make copies of some of the old threads.
  23. Today I listen to my first recordings by Moon Dog. The self entitled album Moondog. I don't know what to think of it yet. Since there is not much out there by this artist to go by, I will have to re-listen to this album before I can put a label on him and what he was about. I always see him in the jazz sections of music stores. But, is he really jazz?
  24. Any insight on this recording? I haven't heard of it before. Want to get some new Miles and this is coming out this month.
