Borders has 'em for the same price as Streetside- $11.99. I called Borders to check if the RVGs were out yet(and they were). Sometimes Borders is PAINFULLY slow at getting the product on the shelves! I ended up going to Streetside anyway, so they're around, dude!

...and on top of that we're getting ready to buy a house!

I haven't heard Heartcore yet, but I sure enjoyed his last, The Next Step. I thought the tunes were engaging and the group interacted nicely. There is one of those "Hot Box" reviews of the new one in the new Downbeat- it received mixed reviews FWIW.

So let me get this straight..... I haven't seen Alfie for a long time. Was Sonny credited as composer of the movie soundtrack? Was any of the material from the Impulse CD used in the film? And finally, is there an actual Alfie soundtrack with Sonny featuring material other than what's on the Impulse CD?

Jack Johnson is scheduled for release on Sept. 30th. The Patton and Chambers Selects and the Mulligan CJB are scheduled for Sept. 23rd, according to jazzmatazz. I haven't yet seen any pre-order info. Anyone? Bueller?

It just seems so much like an "official soundtrack" the way it is packaged. I agree, this doesn't matter- it's a GREAT side!

Just curious, Bruce- what are your reservations about this box? With all the extra material I myself think it'll be worth checking out. I know some people have a fondness for the original version and feel the extra stuff takes away from the original. Where do you stand on this?

......and the "new" Andrew Hill! I hope they do it up in traditional Blue Note cover art.

Remember the Milestone Jazzstars group that toured around 1978? Sonny, McCoy, Ron Carter and Al Foster. I always enjoyed that group and the recording they did. Anyone catch that group live? I also like the 4X4 side- the one w/Freddie, Arthur Blythe, Bobby Hutcherson and John Abercrombie. I thought there were some nice moments on that one. McCoy's Milestone recordings encompassed the decade of the 70s, which was the time (in college) I really started listening, hanging and jamming (and skipping the odd class here and there ) so these sides are near and dear to my heart.

Myself, I'm most excited about the Mosaic Mulligan CJB, the Jack Johnson box and the RVGs- Mode For Joe, Adam's Apple and SFTNL. Somes others, too, but these are the biggies. Also the Patton and Chambers Selects. Also some J.J. and Al Grey reissues. Also, also, also.......................................................... How about you? What are you layin' for?

Here are a few I like: Glengerry Glen Ross Schindler's List L.A. Confidential The Firm Catch Me if You Can Little Man Tate And of course, some of the obvious choices like: The Gauntlet (was that the one that Art Pepper was on?) Sharkey's Machine (that one had a great Fontana-Watrous moment during a forensic scene w/no dialogue) I Want To Live I always thought it was funny in movies like It's A Wonderful Life that when they show the what-if bizarro Bedford Falls there's always "hot jazz" everywhere. I'd much rather live there than the "real" place. Donna Reed looked hot as the spinster librarian. The main drag looks like 52nd street in its heyday. That jazz is so EVIL!

Here's hoping everyone has a safe and happy LD weekend. If you're planning to travel, please drive with care and watch out for idiots, 'cause they'll be out there! Anyone have a good gig this weekend? Or a lame one?

CDUniverse ($8.39, but you have to pay shipping) is about the best I've seen. Anyone ever check out a site called Overstock.com? I've found some decent deals there from time to time.
