  1. As was requested, here's a link to my eBay LP auctions. About twenty more to be added, my Workshop Jazz and one of the rarest Pacific Jazz titles have already been snagged however. Check out what's left here.
  2. So what's the verdict on this, Dan? (I'm primarily interested in Rosolino's contribution). Sorry I took so long but I did finally transfer this one two weekends ago. The unfortunate truth is that those looking for a lot of solo space for Rosolino or Perkins will be disappointed. The young organist gets the vast majority of solo space. He's also never heard Jimmy Smith and this LP could easily have been recorded in the late 40s instead of the late 50s. Very orchestral in his approach, chops galore, and not ice rinky dinky for the most part. Overall, nice, but not the great LP I was hoping for.
  3. I always thought we had "jazz standards" and "popular standards". So Monk or Davis or Mobley tunes that get played a lot are "jazz standards".
  4. 'Not the only one" - but how do you decide who else did? We can only go by the evidence before us - and we know what the evidence shows - Bonds was a major abuser of steroids who transformed himself thereby. Even if you want to extrapolate and presume that anyone who is shown to have used at any time must have been using at other times, this doesn't establish who else did or didn't use. You can paint with broad strokes and presume everyone did. I'll judge the evidence as it comes in. Edited to make my last sentence clearer.
  5. The racial stuff got tired incredibly quickly. When Bob Ryan mentioned people from the Dominican he made no assertions about "Spics" and "Niggers" which this asshat accused, and its pretty damn offensive if you ask me. And the whole thing about his "beautiful" wife - I don't believe she even lived in that luxury condo - she has stayed in Miami all year round with the kids to give them continuity. So not only does his assertions about his wife being the victim of "racist" Boston - when was his wife's happiness ever mentioned as even a tiny part of Manny's comfort in Boston? Everything was about whether or not Manny could go about town without being bothered by fans. He couldn't, and he never adjusted to it. Not a damn thing was ever said about his wife's happiness, and from what I know, she never lived in Boston, there is no evidence of racial attacks in Boston, and the whole idea that she pushed him out has no basis in a single report made by anyone anywhere except this asshole who again, does not put his name on anything. I don't give a shit to click on his "name" and see other idiotic things written by an asshat without the guts to put his name on his ramblings, particularly when they drip with accusations of racism against respected writers like Bob Ryan. Two more things the asshole ignores: Therapeutic Use Exemptions - if this was legitimate, why didn't Manny get one? And how could any doctor make such a mistake as to not know that something that supposedly works on a guy's balls wouldn't show up in drug testing? And this, from Stark: So this asshat will take anybody's word for it that this stuff is used for male infertility, but doesn't even bother to mention that it has no legitimate use. If Laetrile existed today, he'd be touting the thousands of websites that claim its a cancer cure as some sort of proof of something or other. Seriously, this guy gives blogging a bad name.
  6. Is there really "no" evidence Bonds did? None. The government's got nothing on Bonds and they know it. You are an absolute fucking fool and every single person who reads this thread or the steroid thread has reached the exact same conclusion. And anyone who deludes themselves into believing Manny wasn't juicing when he was with the BoSox is, and I quoute you, [is] "an absolute fucking fool". 50 games, Dan. 50. Read it and weep. Manny is dirty and got caught. Bonds wasn't and never spent ONE day on suspension. The BoSox need to give back those WS rings. You remain a contemptible joke. 50 DODGER games doesn't mean a damn thing to me. He NEVER tested positive while with the Red Sox; its a team game and team accomplishments, unless effected by steroid use by most or all of the members, are not remotely effected by steroid accusations that have no basis in any evidence whatsoever. Now do we really have to talk about the evidence for Bonds? BALCO - every client received steroids and used them. Greg Anderson - every client received steroids and used them. Doping calendar - Bonds initials on it; cities and dates matched the Giants schedule; identical calendars prepared for and used by other steroid cheats. Test results - multiple tests ordered by BALCO show that Bonds used steroids. Enhanced techniques applied to an MLB sponsored test gave a positive result for Bonds' sample. Performance after 1998 - Bonds transformed from a modest slugger to a historic one at a time that every other player in history has declined. You may think he's just a great player, everybody else who isn't a Giants fan knows the implications of Bonds' feat and knows the reality of his steroid use. If Anderson refuses to testify at trial about the urine samples, doping calendars, etc., it is relevant only to the legal question of whether Bonds committed perjury when he denied knowingly using steroids. It is completely irrelevant to the question of whether Bonds used steroids. The evidence exists, it is unmistakable, and no one with a brain would look at the MOUNTAIN of evidence of Bonds' use and assert that there is "nothing" on Bonds. Yeah? Prove it. The evidence I've cited has PROVEN THAT BONDS TOOK STEROIDS to literally tens of millions of baseball fans who do not live in the Bay area. I'll go in with millions of people with no vested interest in defending a hometown ball player.
  7. Well I'll be the first to admit that I was certain Papelbon would have his first blown save in that spot. But three straight strikeouts, all swinging, suggests that maybe, just maybe, he really has found his command with this new delivery. Certainly earlier in the year he wasn't getting those swings and misses (and he wasn't hitting 97-98 either). You know, Saito was supposed to be the alternative closer but with his spotty performance, I am wondering if Daniel Bard gets that job in about a month or so ...

  9. Sorry, I don't find it interesting due to all of the shit he piles up around his fundamental claim - that Manny might be trying to get his wife pregnant, might have a problem doing that, and might be legitimately prescribed the medication he tested positive for. I also have no interest in an obnoxious blogger who does not even put his name on his work. But if its true, its a simple matter for Manny to come out and explain the circumstances of his positive test. Let's see him do it.

  11. Well, losing Pedroia would be a crushing blow so I am holding my breath on that, but I am tickled pink that Javier Lopez was DFA'd to make room for Daniel Bard. I was certain they'd give Lopez til June, at least before cutting him loose. Now as long as Bard proves he's ready for prime time unlike Yankee "stud" Melancon, I'll be a happy boy.
  12. I guess I can be thankful Albertson didn't delete this thread in his hissy fit, as I still have a place to post this latest email, subject line "GET BACK TO MR. KELVIN WILLIAMS ONLY (APPROVED BY FBI)‏". Is it getting tougher and tougher to find suckers for this, so now they have to slime their competitors? And I am sorry but getting the money in the form of an ATM card with a ten thousand dollar/day limit on withdrawals to get my 10.5 million is a definite deal-breaker for me. No f-ing way am I going to wait 1050 days to get all my money!
  13. The Providence Journal is reporting that Daniel Bard has been called up from AAA, hopefully to replace Hunter Jones. I was thinking yesterday as that game slipped away, what you need in that situation - bases loaded, no outs - is a guy who can come in and just blow people away with 100 MPH cheese. Maybe Bard won't start right off doing that, but just like Tito sometimes brings in Papelbon in the eighth when he can't afford having a batter make any contact, a Bard is the type of guy you want to pull your nuts out of the fire by striking out the side. I can't wait to see what he does.
  14. Yep--plus the new stadium bites IMO. A fine column about the many things wrong with the new Stadium, written as an open letter to Old King George.
  15. I was going to post about Dom Dimaggio earlier. One of those guys who might have made it in to the Hall if not for time spent in WWII - especially under the old you-scratch-my-back Veteran's Committee. A good bat and great glove, Enos Slaughter's Mad Dash might have been cut down had Dom not suffered a leg injury in the previous inning. He always maintained he would have gotten to the ball sooner and gotten it into Pesky quicker than his sub did. Centerfield looks pretty cool now with a huge "7" cut into it. Nice story from the Globe:
  16. He writes for the L.A. Times, appears on ESPN scream-fests often, and was a favorite whipping boy of the old FireJoeMorgan website. 'nuff said.
  17. Can't get away from the steroids without mentioning that Bill Plaschke is a raving moron. He thinks that hitting .520 in the playoffs last year is evidence that Manny was juicing. Plaschke has never heard the phrase "small sample size".
  18. So in the case of Alex Rodriguez we shouldn't limit our speculation. But according to you and Paps that doesn't apply to Manny and his time with the Red Sox. Doesn't seem fair to me. There are people who are asserting that A-Rod used in high school and possibly with the Yankees. You can dismiss it because they won't put their name out there but you don't even have anonymous sources to claim that Manny used while with the Sox.
  19. Thank you, Paps.
  20. My wife bought a movie gift card for Christmas which we've yet to use (there are few movies I want to see and the ones she wants to see definitely don't interest me). So it turns out that with new management at this theater, we have to use the card by the end of the month. I mentioned Star Trek and she countered with the new Terminator film. Then I told her the review I saw in the Times which was very good and now she's more open to it. So we'll see ...
  21. I am going to assume that you meant to say "I don't think he did them with the Red Sox" since its quite obvious that he in fact did them as a Dodger. Unless, that is, you are of the belief that steroid cycles are eight years long, followed by a ten month break, then an intensive effort to jump start the production of testosterone. What is everyone going to say if a respected doctor - not some guy running a store-front script mill - comes out and says "Manny has had erectile dysfunction for a long time. OTC medications have not helped, and therefore I prescribed a female fertility drug that is known to trigger a massive increase in testosterone production in an attempt to treat his problem. I did not realize this would trigger a positive test in MLB's drug program. I am sorry and have already reached a settlement agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez." Because as embarrassing as it may be, if that is Manny's explanation, he's got to get it out there and not just put out a statement and disappear for 50 games. Then you can bet that Manny was cycling steroids in the off-season. and I believe Bonds was taking flax seeds. plus he never failed a test with the giants. even k? testing was much more stringent when Manny was a Dodger then when he was a red sox. your killing me. Manny's not dumb, he cut his cycle too close. Bonds samples have tested positive by the more stringent testing done by the FBI. As for Manny and his tests, there have been no significant changes in the testing, the changes were in the penalty regime. He tested multiple times with the Red Sox and was never positive. Look, I know you hate the Sox for their success and their revenue that helps support it. Using this to say that their championships is in any way tainted only reflects your own hatred, not any evidence of steroid use.

  23. I'm making that claim, Danny Bouy. The drug ManRam takes is one that is used to mask the use of steroids. And have you noticed how big his head is these days? Let's see how you react now that the proverbial Bonds steroids bullshit is smeared on your team, eh? Manny is a cheater, Dan. Your BoSox should forfeit those WS rings. Prove me wrong. That's simple, fuckwad. Manny Ramirez was a member of the LA Dodgers when he tested positive in March TWO THOUSAND NINE. Manny Ramirez never tested for positive as a member of any Red Sox team. QED, bitch.
  24. Holy shit, the Sox have scored 12 runs in the sixth against Cleveland without making a single out! What was that about the Cleveland bullpen, SS1?
