  1. What the fuck are you talking about????? HIS FUCKING BAT HEAD WENT A FOOT BEYOND THE PLATE! Once again, nauseating, pathetic failure. Two on and nobody out, the asshole Garza out of the game, the fucking pathetic bullpen BEGGING to be given the chance to blow up, and they still fail.
  2. That was the highlight of my career as well. That F/T job was at a soft AC station. Part of my Saturday night duties was to roll a godawful smooth jazz show hosted by Dave Koz. So I figured it couldn't hury to pitch a "Romantic Jazz" show that would fit into the format with a mix of familiar vocalists like Sinatra and Ella with ballads by Ben Webster and Dexter and others. But it got even better when another station flipped to a smooth jazz format. At that point the boss wasn't going to stick with the Koz program, and actually came to me with a proposal for a two hour show to be called "Real Jazz" (they play "smooth", we play "real"). I produced about 40 of those. Nothing like GoM does with his show, but enjoyable nonetheless. Funny thing was I would always ask for comments/requests at least one break an hour, and you never knew what would happen. Most of the time the phone wouldn't ring, or one person would call. Then every once in a while I'd get three or four calls, one after the other - "we love your show" "great to hear this music on the radio". And I did have one hard core fan - an elderly lady who would never call, she would write. I must have received four or five letters from her that I've got filed away somewhere.
  3. This is why I will forever be fucking programmed to expect failure. And to lose this way, to a nothing pitcher who spent three innings throwing balls in the dirt and around people's heads, is fucking infuriating. And as an aside, does that asshole Garza have a fucking salivary gland disorder? His compulsive spitting is disgusting and happens about every three seconds.
  4. I would leave Lowery in , thats a mistake he has better range than Cora . Maybe Cora does better against Garza? Francona and the coaches believe that Cora handles hard throwing righties better. I'm too lazy to see if Cora got any hits in Game 3.
  5. Aki is still leading off and Bartlett is still number nine. Cora in for Lowery. If Tek and Cora manage 3 hits between them, there's a chance we'll be in good shape. We may survive an oh for, but I'd think we'd do well if those two do hit.
  6. Oh my God that is the funniest thing ever.
  7. Due to significant hearing loss at a young age, I didn't go to a lot of concerts when I was actually interested in rock, plus you couldn't have dragged me to a metal show so I'm going to go with something somewhat unexpected: George Coleman Octet at Smoke, summer of 2000, I think. Its such a small room for an octet to play at full blast. I especially recall that Gary Smulyan was standing next to Jim Rotondi and on every part that called for trumpet, Smulyan played one handed, with the hand closest to Rotondi trying desperately to cover his ears.
  8. What pleases me is that now we see the true level of competition between these two teams. Had the Rays finished us off in Game 5, the impression given that the Rays are young and strong and quick and the Red Sox are old and slow and injured and that it really isn't much of a comparison would have pissed me off for a very long time. Now we find out If Lester really hit a wall or just had a bad game. I'm betting on the latter and think that he'll give us seven and possibly eight innings of very good baseball. The fact that the Rays were just a game over .500 against lefties and the team OPS was lowest against them gives me added hope. If the Rays really can be the ultimate resilient team. Everything was lined up for them, but Shields proved that he's received his nickname very prematurely. The bats were quieted by a guy who is still hurt but got it done, and a rebounding bullpen. Garza has pitched well, but how will he react to the pressure? He's been a hot head in the past. Will Sonnanstine come in if Garza gets in trouble? Or Edwin Jackson to give them innings? The depth in their rotation could be an advantage if the Red Sox put up a crooked number, but it won't be a great advantage if Lester pitches like he's capable. One thing is for sure - the Rays were supposed to be relaxed going in because they still had the advantage. Now its the Sox who can feel a little more relaxed as they've been here, done that (or as the sign said at Fenway, Been Here Won That) and the Rays have to be feeling the pressure.
  9. And how fucked up can the feed be if they aren't even staying in the studio, maybe narrate or say something about what's going on? And get this - that "TBS Hot Corner"? There's a feed on mlb.com. Four camera angles. How can that go over the Net but they can't broadcast? This sounds like one fucked up situation that won't get resolved anytime soon. And just like that, a motherfucking home run by Upton.
  10. Anyone else suspect that the first order of business for Beckett will be to put one in the general direction of Upton, Pena or Longoria's ribs? In fact I wouldn't mind actually hitting one of them - get in their heads, plus with the history and the situation, they'll warn both benches. Shields was stupid enough before to plunk Coco in retaliation right away, if he "protects" his guys, we could get him out of the game that much faster. Beyond that, those guys have been allowed to own the inner half of the plate and that has to stop. And remember, Pedro sent Matsui sprawling in Game 5, after another epic comeback to stave off elimination, and "Godzilla" didn't do anything the rest of the series. And you know Beckett is the kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate.
  11. But why did she hit the station ID? You quit, break programming, walk away, leave the mic open so it catches the sound of the cart rack hitting the floor ... Edit to say that I made $6 or $7 an hour in my first radio gig, weekend overnights at WTNT Tallahassee. When I got my first full time job, I believe it was $10 an hour. Radio sucks, and what ensured that I wouldn't stay in it was the discovery that I wasn't going to move up from Tallahassee (market number 104, if I remember correctly) but could barely get interest from stations in the tiniest towns in the middle of nowhere, for even less money.
  12. That wasn't Ted quitting on the air. It was some guy in Florida.
  13. Not much info, it just crossed the AP wire thirty minutes ago. But what a special voice! Definitely going to put on some Four Tops, and maybe have my wife put Little Shop of Horrors on her Netflix list.
  14. The thing is what do you get with an "all hands on deck" scenario? Wakefield? Maybe Dice-K for a couple of innings instead of Byrd? Realistically the bats have to hit like the Rays have been hitting, or Beckett has to somehow, someway find his form. I really don't see it happening given what we know about his condition, but I will say this - I'd rather lose with him on the mound in Game 6 than get to Game 7 and have him get hammered then. Because if they win Game 6, I will once again be "all in".
  15. Brad, when you have to win twice, what's the point of moving your best pitcher to the first game? To win, Beckett and Lester have to come up big. Let's see if Beckett tries a new approach to make his diminished stuff work. The only problem is that he can be a stupid, stubborn son of a bitch so he probably won't make any changes.
  16. Youk was on second with two outs, Al. Pedroia grounded out and Papi struck out. So they were an out away from sending it into the tenth, where they would have had to get another inning out of Masterson. After that it was Javy Lopez, Mike Timlin and Paul Byrd. I told my wife that they had to get this thing done quickly because the bullpen couldn't possibly keep them down for long. Paps, you are right about Upton, the proper path to the ball allows him to catch it. I don't think Gross had a chance though, the ball was stung, and directly over his head. Baldelli might have had the legs to make up the ground.
  17. Oh. My. Fucking. God. Seriously. How many TV's in Red Sox Nation were turned off before the bottom of the 7th?? Ok , i will admit it ! I turned it off after one out in the 7th it looked OVER! I can't believe it, Zen. You're the one insisting they had a chance, I said it was OV-AH, yet you give up in the seventh, and I watched the whole thing. Well, we'll just have to see if this has put the pressure on the Rays, and whether this has truly lifted the depression hovering around the Sox. One thing is for sure, that comeback was at least as unexpected and shocking as Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. I mean, we had gone the equivalent of 3 full games without hitting a lick. And I must point out, while I did not necessarily have any premonitions, I did choose to put on my CURSE OF THE BIG PAPI t-shirt for this game. Game 6 comes down to pitching, and whether or not the Sox bats are back. If they are back, and they pummel Shields, there's a chance, albeit not a large one, that they could even survive another blowup by Beckett. If Shields pitches as he did in Game 1 and Beckett pitches as he did in Game 2, nothing will save them. But if Beckett somehow works around his physical limitations (maybe working backwards and throwing the fastball only after its set up with curves and changes?) and the bats keep it up, then they've got a real shot, and I would see Game 7 as actually a favorable matchup because Garza is a bit of a head case and I don't expect Lester to suck two times in a row. And one more thing: In 2003, after the Red Sox won Game 6 in New York to force that fateful Game 7, the Red Sox were so presumptuous as to go ahead and paint the World Series logo in the grass at Fenway. And we all know how that turned out. Well, I read on the Boston Globe website that at Tampa area Publix stores, you can buy a Rays World Series baseball. So the question is, have the Rays jumped the gun and angered the baseball Gods? We'll find out.
  18. Though I have to confess I didn't recognize the name, I certainly recognized that screen credit. GA, CNN has a fairly long obit up here. It says that she bought up the rights to Kovacs work and re-packaged it as a way to secure his comedic legacy.
  19. If this doesn't bring Clem out of the woodwork, nothing will.
  20. Good. Now if some of the former regular participants join in and spark some discussion, a great Organissimo tradition will endure.
  21. Check out this from a NYT column about how Red Sox fans view Manny: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/16/sports/b...html?ref=sports Could this clown only find pink hatters to interview? Manny batted in front of Papi? Manny showed up at camp on time? I think he did that exactly once, this year, when he thought if he worked hard to get in shape and showed up on time, they'd rip up the option years and sign him to a four year deal. And what the hell does it mean to say that "it was not a very professional way for the Red Sox to send him out"? How should they have done it? Tried optioning him to Pawtucket first? Manny was the ass who failed to conduct himself in a professional manner.
  22. If I may make a suggestion, I don't think its necessary to set such a short time period for people to respond, or lose their spots. If we presume that Sidewinder will be good to go in December, that gives everyone six weeks to step up and confirm or else to be dropped. The goal should be to give people a chance to participate starting in January 2009, and you do that by giving them a chance to respond and confirm.
  23. Soon as the Rays finish with my sorry-ass team, I'll be fully on the Phillie bandwagon. Condolences to Noj, and to Manny Ramirez, who will only receive two loser's shares of LCS money.
