This Discussion Board thread has the scoop. I'd stay away. -
I'm thinking a "natural cycle" is what's rare.
-
What surprised me is that he is the fourth player to hit for the cycle on a day that included his first ML home run. Given how rare hitting for the cycle is (I believe it falls in between perfect games and no-hitters in how many times its happened in history) I would have guessed that it was the first time it had happened.
-
You're an idiot. Even if your lame-brained thesis had any logic, what does it change? Chewy gets to refer to all of his Coltrane CDs as part of his vast West Coast Jazz holdings?
-
Well, after a miraculous 9th inning comeback, I was wrong in my presumption that a loss was imminent. On the other hand, Beckett coming out with a blister is an absolute nightmare.

Jesus Fucking Christ. There aren't FACTS IN EVIDENCE that "stronger players always, as a class, hit for more power?" READ THE FUCKING BASEBALL ENCYLOPEDIA. CORRELATE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT WITH HOME RUN TOTALS. -
Twice a POS rookie Baltimore pitcher shuts us down, and Beckett is taken out with a blister. I fucking knew it couldn't last.

I posted this last one earlier, Larry, when this was part of the regular baseball thread. It did no good. None of it does any good. He is blind to reality. Blind to anything that doesn't comport with his twisted, undefensible beliefs. He doesn't think it means anything if it can be shown that Bonds paid BALCO for copious amounts of PEDs (just because he bought them doesn't mean he actually used them. There's no proof. Nanny nanny poo poo. A doping schedule created for "BLB" doesn't mean anything. There is no proof that its actually for Barry Lamar Bonds. And anyway, no one saw him use the drugs. A doping schedule that lists cities and dates that coincide 100% with the road schedule of the San Francisco Giants doesn't mean anything. There is no proof that it was Bonds' schedule, and anyway, no one saw him use the PEDs. And anyway, the Grand Jury testimony was illegally obtained. Nanny Nanny Poo Poo. -
The 1946 Hawaii recordings are pretty decent-sounding, to my ears anyway, and we get a lot of Coltrane solos on them! Wasn't aware of the status of those recordings.
-
i don't care too much for studio chatter usually, but in such a case it might actually help to nail down whether it really was Coltrane??? (depending on who chatters what) Well, especially if its the leader who says "quit messing around, Trane!"
-
Maybe I could edit the tune down to Trane's tenor solo and Jim could post a link to the MP3, and everyone can chime in their opinion.

This may be my biggest pet peeve with my wife - its like she's incapable of wringing out a sponge. Like you never know when there will be a sponge emergency, so you better keep it wet at all times. -
thanks for the info. What exactly do you mean by "proof"? I presume they put his name on it because there's some documentation. I definitely agree that it sounds plausibly like Coltrane given his age and the genre.

You're an absolute fucking fool, and now we are done. Cheer him to your heart's content. Cheer him all the way to Federal Prison. But trust me on this: You will be embarassed over this, and sooner than you think. -

Strength makes you a better home run hitter. Now, answer the other questions. Deal with the astonishing change in his home run rate following his initial use of steroids. Explain why declining performance applies to every other athlete except those with "the gift". Deal with the mountain of evidence described by the authors. Deal with the fact that Kimberly Bell didn't just say a bunch of stuff, she gave over voluminous written and oral documentation. Deal with the fact that a Bonds doping schedule for 2003 (labelled BLB - isn't Barry's middle name "Lamar"?) listed the exact same cities in the exact same order and date as the Giants' road schedule and listed each and every steroid Bond used. Explain that one. Explain the multiple individuals who testified that they were told that Bonds was using steroids. Explain why Bonds blood was found to be sent to labs for testing of steroid use and testosterone levels. Was flaxseed oil supposed to elevate his testosterone and they wanted to make sure it didn't go too high? Explain the documentary evidence of Bonds purchases of steroids. Go ahead, explain it. But don't say anything about hard work paying off, that he has a "gift" or that its all a bunch of nonsense from jilted lovers. -

I love how you claim that there is no "proof" and that it all comes from "pissed off ex-girlfriends". Let's take a look at the authors of Game of Shadows and their documentary proof: There you go, Sparky. Try to pick it apart. Try to deny what anyone with a brain understands. -

That's nice. Challenge me about the statistical evidence of his juicing, I show it to you. You don't respond and move onto sophistry like "he's that good". Then tell me why he wasn't "that good" BEFORE 1998, in what is supposed to be his athletic prime? Tell me how he more than DOUBLED his home run rate AFTER starting to use steroids. -

Now you are simply a liar. Do I really have to go back and show the countless times you said "strength doesn't make you a home run hitter"? Everyone on this board knows what you said and everyone who bothers to comment tells you that you make no sense. Do you REALLY want me to consult the statistics? I would be more than happy to. According to Game of Shadows, Bonds started to juice following the 1998 season. A logical place, therefore, to consult before and after statistics. From the beginning of his career through the 1998 season, Barry Bonds hit 411 home runs in 6621 ABs, a rate of 1 per 16.5 ABs. That is a decent home run rate. From the 1999 season to date, Barry Bonds hit 334 home runs in only 2971 ABs, a rate of 1 per 8.9 ABs. Furthermore, this occured at a time when every athlete experiences a decline in his skills (age 34 and beyond). Bond was 34 when he hooked up with Anderson and BALCO, let's take a look at another statistic: OPS+. OPS as most people know is On Base Plus Slugging. The "+" signifies that park and league effects have been neutralized. A score of 100 is equivalent to the average ballplayer for a particular season or seasons. Below 100 is worse, above 100 is better. At the age of 34, Bonds' OPS+ was 163. A very impressive number, it puts him in range of Willie Mays (also 163), Jimmy Foxx (164), Stan Musial (170), Frank Robinson and Hank Aaron (157), Mel Ott (156). Not quite in the range of Mickey Mantle (175), Lou Gehrig (184), Ted Williams (192) or Babe Ruth (212) but nevertheless, historically impressive, first ballot Hall of Fame type numbers. And much better than Rafael Palmiero (134). Where did Bonds' OPS+ go after the age of 34, and how did these other legends do? Ruth: a -8% change Williams: a -1% change Gehrig: -18% Mantle: -13% Musial: -19% Foxx: -41% Mays: -10% Robinson: -8% Aaron: -4% Ott: -8% Bonds: +43% Palmiero: No change Now, its not coincidental that these players were compared with Bonds, because at the age of 34, these were the top comparable players for Bonds' statistics to date. So let's summarize: Every single player in Bonds' group of comparables showed a decline in OPS+ after the age of 34. Some declines were drastic, some less so. And yet, only a known steroid user showed zero decline and he who has "the gift" showed not only NO DECLINE, but a staggering increase. The statistics do not lie. Bonds was a decent home run hitter (1 in 16.5 ABs). He hooked up with Greg Anderson and BALCO and injested a staggering amount of PEDs of all types. He became an extraordinary home run hitter (1 in 8.9 ABs) at an age where every other historically great hitter began their inevitable athletic decline. Oh, but Barry has "the gift". -
I picked up a pretty good compilation CD called Los Angeles Rhythm & Blues 1944-54 (Acrobat) and much to my surprise, on a track by vocalist/pianist Billy Valentine, "Beer Drinking Baby" John Coltrane is listed on tenor (along with Ray Brown on bass). I checked the jazz discography project site and they don't list this session, though it certainly sounds like it could be Coltrane. Guess I should send an email, although the insert doesn't give session info in terms of recording label. What's definitely neat is that to my knowledge this has to be the earliest decent sounding recording of Trane, its not like he's a rumor in the sax section, that's him taking the sax solo. Or does someone know otherwise that this some other John Coltrane?

Oh, well in that case, I hereby declare myself as your spokesperson. Dan: Steriods make you hit homeruns and if you hit them you must be juicing. There is absolutely no other possible answer to anyone's success on the playing field. I never said that hitting home runs means you must be juicing. Paradoxically hitting home runs at a much greater rate in his athletic old age, combined with known usage of BALCO products, massive muscle gain in a short period of time which EXPERTS declare is a signal of steroid use, combined with DOCUMENTARY evidence of his usage makes it a pretty obvious bet that BONDS juiced. Gooody: Your proof? Dan: I am Great and Powerful Gould! I have spoken! I am hardly alone in my pronouncements. Everyone else on this board agrees with me. Goody: Dan, you are aware, of course, that steroids only create muscle mass...they aren't some sort of a magic potion that gives a player vision and skill. Dan: You pathetic weasel! How dare you speak to me in that way...I am omnipotent! I and I alone possess all knowledge of how steriods work! NO ONE HAS EVER MADE THE CLAIM THAT STEROIDS IMPROVES EXISTING HAND-EYE COORDINATION. IT IS A FALSE STATEMENT BY YOU WHICH IS ONLY ONE OF MANY THAT YOU USE TO OBSCURE THE FACTS. IT DOES NOT FOOL ANYONE. TRY TO GET IT INTO YOUR SKULL: MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS ALREADY HAVE THE HAND EYE COORDINATION NECESSARY TO HIT THE BALL. PLAYERS SUCH AS BONDS, WHO SUDDENLY BLOSSOM INTO HOME RUN HITTING DYNAMOS AFTER ADDING FIFTY POUNDS OF MUSCLE ARE OBVIOUS TARGETS FOR STEROID SUSPICION, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE CAME OUT ABOUT BALCO, ANDERSON, ETC. ETC. ETC. ETC. ETC. ETC. Goody: M'kay. Can you tell me why you don't believe relative motion and physics have everything to do with bat head speed? Dan: You worthless pile of steaming excrement! I have spoken! Down and beg for mercy! In amongst the insults have been multiple logical and compelling arguments for why you are wrong and the entire rest of the community is right. You continue to ignore the critical questions I keep asking. Why? Why can't you answer them? One more time: Why, if strength is not remotely related to home runs, did Bonds undertake such strenuous "efforts" to become bigger and stronger?? Why did Bonds change from a decent power hitter to an extraordinary power hitter at such a late stage in his athletic career, and why do you think it is merely coincidence that his home runs jumped after he packed on 30 or 40 pounds of muscle? In the immortal words of John McEnroe, ANSWER THE QUESTION! Goody: Well, all righty then! It would appear that narrowmindedness has reached an alltime high. Congratulations. I think we're done here. Yeah, I'm narrow minded. And you're a goddamn saint to keep defending Bonds with twisted and deceitful logic and utterly false assertions. Are you on Barry's payroll? I know of no one who would continue to defend him from the blizzard of proof of what he is: a liar, a cheater, a felon. -
I've been buying my stamps from the self-service kiosk, and I notice that my 1/2 booklet simply says "First Class" on it - no .39. There is a date of 2006. Seems to me that these should be treated as "Forever" stamps. It should also be noted that the PO says it will not immediately start returning mail with old stamps as "postage due", so it is safe for the time being to use those old stamps you still have.

What's sad and pathetic is that you can't recognize how ridiculous you sound. The Giambi-Anderson conversation in Goodspeak: Giambi: I want to be as strong and durable and successful as Barry when I am his age. Can you do the same thing for me? Anderson: Well, Barry is just a weight lifting fiend with superhuman ability to recover. Plus, he has "the gift". I better just put you on a steroids regimen instead. -

Because he denied knowing that these were steroids, when it was Bonds who directed Jason Giambi to his personal trainer, Anderson, and it was Anderson who put Giambi on "the cream" and "the clear" and Giambi fully knew what he was taking. He testified that he knew they were steroids. Is it plausible to believe that Greg Anderson told Giambi what he would be taking and not Bonds? So if somebody denies using steriods that automatically means he is....? Giambi isn't Bonds and he still uses HGHs...still no case. Try to "follow along": Giambi and Bonds were BOTH clients of BALCO and Greg Anderson. Giambi asked Anderson directly "you're Barry's personal trainer - what is his secret? How has he maintained his performance level and fitness level so deep into his 30s?" Anderson replied "You're familiar with steroids? Well, BALCO has some unbelievable steroids, they're undetectable and they kick ass (if you don't mind shrunken testicles, back acne or a swollen head). I'll give you the same ones I'm giving Barry." And Giambi said, "Cool!" Like I've said before: When everyone associated with BALCO knowingly received and injested the company's steroids, it is no great leap of faith to say that Barry Bonds, who was associated with BALCO and received their products and used them, also knowingly used steroids.
