  1. In my opinion a "just not" record. I prefer the Pacifics and Mustang. Very much so. I was smart enough to pass when I saw this at a shop for $20 and later received a burn of it. It just doesn't compare with the PJs and his one-off for Verve.
  2. I don't know about rock groups or teeny boppers but it definitely made it onto the setlist of blues artists prior to SRV.
  3. The downside, in my opinion, is the cluttering of the board. As Hans suggests, why then not have a blues subforum, and a classic rock subforum, etc. etc.? There's no reason for a separate forum for the simple fact that anything that classical music fans might want to discuss can fit into the existing subforums - Recommendations, Artists, Reissues .... -and Miscelleneous Music.
  4. If the entire problem is that by voluntary segregation all discussion of classical music has ended up in a single thread, that is the fault of the classical music fans who contribute to the "problem". Nothing has ever stopped them from starting new threads about specific topics/artists/releases. The fact that all discussion ends up in a single "what are you listening to" thread suggests that their actually the level of interest in the classical genre is insufficient to warrant a separate forum. I vote no.
  5. 28-12 best record in baseball !!!!........i don't know about Hansack saw him pitch against the Blue Jays and he was shaky at best. Maybe that was his first appearance in a big league game ? it was a 9-1 lead and he couldn't throw strikes how hard is it to pitch with a 9-1 lead ? Hansack also had the five inning no-hitter against the O's on the last day of the season last year. Being a starter at Pawtucket, he probably wasn't ready to come in and sit for so many days and then get called in to a blowout. Anyway, I am glad that they are running Hansack and Gabbard out for the Braves series and keeping Wakefield out a day so he can start the series in the Bronx. At least the Yankees also have two rookies going against the Mets, so the matchups favor us adding to the lead, most likely. But with Beckett on the DL, no question that this is the first bump in the road. Hopefully we won't give them a hand to get back into it. Funny how seemingly any other team with a 9 1/2 game lead playing .700 ball would feel like the race should be over, but since its the Red Sox, and they are the Yankees, nothing can be assured. It sure would feel great though if we go to the playoffs and the Rocket goes home in October.
  6. Obviously you didn't see what happened, Matthew. He leaped at the wall in right centerfield and drilled the top of the wall with the small of his back. The fact that he stayed in the game four more innings until it "tightened" suggests that he is at least a little tougher than his rep. But make no mistake, this is no "tight hamstring" or "flu symptoms" let-me-take-a-little-time-off. This is an injury that only a gamer gets (anyone see Bobby Abreu crash into a wall recently? I rest my case). While Red Sox fans wish he hadn't gone a month or so without a decent stretch of hitting, no one at this point is questioning his effort on the field.
  7. Well I can only say that my last office job was the pinnacle of musical contentment. That was where I was conducting my old "A to Z" project, and my office was right next to the boss, with the doors open. Never heard a word of complaint.
  8. Conrad, I surely empathize with you, but with Beckett going on the DL and several critical series coming up, I'll take all the luck we can get starting now. I was impressed with the two rookies that are going (I am assuming its Devern Hansack, who was a lobster fisherman in Nicaragua when they signed him a year ago, and Kason Gabbard, a lefty who figured out in his call up last year that if he throws strikes he can be successful). We still get to face your two aces though, so its not really a good combination even if Atlanta usually stinks against unknown pitchers.
  9. In that case I've been misinformed. Hah - learn something new every day.
  10. So, unless he is your supervisor or a higher up, tell him what you think of his musical taste in comparison to the so-called "elevator music".
  11. I guess they had to, now that the USPS rates have gone up... that reminds me of something I've wondered. When something is shipped internationally, is their some monetary transfer between postal services? Or does everyone agree to deliver each other's international shipments?
  12. For excellent blues discussions and plentiful recommendations, go here?. Edit: That's not a question mark in my sentence. Its in the URL but for some reason is being displayed.
  13. but there's a lot more to a singing career (and getting votes) than just one's voice - as anyone who's seen (heard!) some of the pro celebrity guest singers on the show can atest. Such as being male (and the last one left) in a competition with an audience that skews young and female.
  14. Well put me down as sickened by tonight's results. Melinda is the best singer they've ever had and for a few million horny pre-teens to put that doofus Blake into the finals is a horrifying miscarriage of justice. Jordin deserves to be there and I'll hope like hell she wipes the floor with that no talent dork.
  15. Well, from my perspective, there's nothing wrong per se about non-jazz fans having a few Ella CDs. As for me, I will never stop enjoying the Ella and Louis albums. Has anyone heard These Are the Blues? I thought Jim might reference it since I sent him a burn many years ago. Maybe its one of those "more than just a few" things he does dig.
  16. The B.B. King and Albert King shows are excellent.
  17. I cannot believe anything but that the story is total BS.
  18. No Way will they pick up Mannys options i still think they will try to trade him in the offseason. The protection for papi could be A-Rod . The Sox wouldn't trade for Andruw Jones isn't he a free agent at seasons end? Gee i can't imagine Damon at first never thought of that ! I don't think Manny goes anywhere, unless he actually has a down season and they think he's on the decline. The fact is that he has one more year left only, and as 10/5 player can drive a hard bargain not only in where he goes but in demanding that his option years get picked up. If a team takes him and has to exercise the option years, what are we going to get for him? At the very best, you might get decent pitching prospects like the ones that the Tigers gave up for Sheffield. That is all and it is hardly worth it, unless you've signed someone to replace Manny in the lineup. As for that ... I'd put the odds of A-Rod coming to Boston as extremely low. Not only is there too much water under the bridge, but after watching his performance run hot and cold so much in New York, why would you want to throw a boatload of money at someone with so many obvious mental issues about performance/how much he's "loved"?
  19. Well, Andruw has certainly been considered as a replacement for Manny as protection in the lineup for Papi. But having Jacoby Ellsbury in AAA makes it really hard to imagine how we fit Andruw into the outfield, even if he were swinging great. My strong suspicion is that the Yankees will go very hard for him, with the plan of moving Damon to first base next season (or maybe they don't pick up Abreu's option and put Andruw in RF and leave Damon in center). But I think the Yankees are coming to realize that Damon's playing style is catching up to his age and that they will see continuing diminishing returns running him out to CF as often as possible. He's already spoken about moving to 1B in the future, I think the Yanks may recognize that time is now. It would certainly help to solve the productivity problem at 1B. In the meantime, I really wonder what the Sox will do to protect Ortiz, but maybe, since this is now the "Era of Good Feelings" between Manny and Boston, they'll end up picking up his option years and keep him for three more seasons. Certainly those option years have started to look much more reasonable than they were when he signed originally.
  20. I'm guessing its the four guys who each won 20 in whatever year that was.
  21. Conrad, I think everyone has a single interleague series this weekend, the so-called "traditional rivalries" series. Now, Mets-Yankees, Cubs-White Sox and a few others make sense, but there is no rivalry between Boston and Atlanta just because the Braves started out (a long, LONG time ago) in Boston. But I am glad that we won't face Smoltz, apparently. I'd be happy to get Redman and someone else plus Tim Hudson. At least two of the games are on TBS. As for the balance of inter-league schedule, everyone goes into it later on in June for however many games it is.
  22. that is a thing of beauty. its too bad we as a society have lost that wonderful color palate of the 60's-70's, with its mustards, browns, and psychedelic swirls. instead the teams of my generation wear the crappy conservative blues and whites, boring everyone to death with their inoffensiveness. stupid reagan That's a bunch of bull. What passed for "style" in that era was complete and utter nauseating garbage - from baseball uniforms to "regular" fashions. And if Reagan stands for taste, class, style and sophistication then I'll stand with him.
  23. And interestingly enough, that "Affiliates" link says that if you link to his site, you'll get a whopping $40 out of every $67 sale. Does that sound legit? What company gives 60% commissions?
