  1. Try American baseball, named after the law enforcement group.
  2. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it was KoB, probably winter of 1988. Christmas of '87 I received two Columbia Jazz Masterpieces samplers and I know that "So What" was on it and that my first purchases came from favorite tracks on those albums, specifically Satch Plays Fats, Satch Plays W.C. Handy and Time Out. So I have to assume that KoB was in there as well. As far as the rather popular item Bitches Brew, I bought that the following summer when I was home from Graduate School and had a full-on Jazz Fever. Didn't know what I was getting but my brother (who was in high school and involved in the jazz band) advised me to go for it. The only record I sold faster was

    Jon Gordon

Can't refer to any of his leadership dates, and frankly, I am not even sure about his playing specifically on this one: but I can tell you that if you're in the mood for a record that harkens back to classic Blue Note hard bop, Soulmates is extremely difficult to beat.
  4. WOW!!! I GUESSED ONE CORRECTLY!!! AFTER 39-1/2 BFT'S, I FINALLY NAILED ONE THAT I ONLY GUESSED AT!!! THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!! WOO HOO!!! That's it! I'm taking the rest of the day off!!! Congratulations, Al, but I also have to tell you that the "Wayne Shorter" connection was entirely in your head. There, that ought to deflate you a bit.
  5. I can't figure out why you think of #3 and #8 as "funk".
  6. Truly a pathetic waste, of just about everything.
  7. I trust most will be as honest as you are, MG, but I have to say at this point: WTF???? Yes, I put this thing together on the PC, and after I had made final choices and sequencing decisions, it was time to rename everything "track001" etc. So I burned a new CD after doing that, and it was at that point that I discovered that when I put it in the PC, names were showing up. So, I right-clicked on each wav file, chose "properties" and discovered that the info was on the second screen - I think "general". So I deleted all of that and that was when I started burning CDs, and when I played them, nothing popped up to identify tracks. I did discover that in Nero, my burning program, those old file names would still appear - but I assumed it was some sort of minor artifact and it certainly wasn't showing up on the burned discs I put into the PC. So, how ironic is it that on a BFT I designed with "WTF" tracks in mind, I'm the one going "WTF?" As I say, I hope everyone is as honest as MG and keeps the secrets that are apparently contained within these discs.
  8. I must admit I was intrigued by the positive review this got in the NYT.
  9. For having just downloaded and listened, a couple of pretty good guesses there, Al.
  10. Yeah, but I got spam from Jazzhole Records today. They seem to have a different idea about what it means.
  11. They came out of bankrupcy extremely quickly last time, because the majors couldn't let such a major retailer die. Whether they are willing to let it die now is the question.
  12. If Wikipedia is the standard of cultural knowledge 150 years from now, we are in deep, deep trouble.
  13. That's the amazing thing about this game - they sucked coming out of the break, and here they are on a ten game winning streak.
  14. Zorro Koko Coco Chanel
  15. Good news for White Sox and Red Sox fans, and those who think Jonathon Papelbon should be the Rookie of the Year
  16. Really? Now it seems like every other monthly message talks about how they don't do that and everyone else does.
  17. I was going to answer but I need to clean this keyboard first. Somethng slid off one of my digits.
  18. So I get the first "WTF???" Just proves I never listened all the way through on everything. ARRGGHHH! And I even did some editing on another track to make sure that names weren't given away. Anywhoo, Jim, you missed what I thought were gimmes and got the one that was a true gimme.
  19. Did you hear that the Sox kicked the tires on Wells but when they saw his medical records, they put the kaibosh on it. They were afraid he'd have circulation issues in cold weather. Guess those circulation issues cropped up a little earlier. Typical Texas attitude - grab a pitcher and pray.
  20. And off you go on Disc 2. Hopefully no one goes .
  21. Oh heck, I couldn't wait any longer to get the ball rolling, considering how many discs went out earlier than usual and how many got yousendit service. So have at Disc 1. Hope y'all enjoyed some of those "WTF" tracks at the start.
  22. And Kip Wells had one good start and complained of "fatigue". I feel your pain, Big Al.
  23. Nah, but I have a very strong suspicion that certain groups have been repeated, and more than once.
