Gary Alderman is still active.

At this point I would propose that, unless at least a few more signups come in by week's end, this idea should be put out of its misery.

Have you read his books?

I'd have to go with Wycliffe Gordon.

If nobody else comes through, I'll post Soul Symphony info later today.

"definately" vs. "definitely"

Harold Land "Peace-maker" on Cadet
Dan Gould replied to jazzydaddy's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I have all three LPs-the LD, the Yusef, and the Land-Hutch. On the Yusef, I have the Cadet reissue of this material, and the sound is pretty poor (not the vinyl, the Cadet reissue). I think they rengineered for stereo, or something. But pretty weak sound. PM me with your address and let me know if you'd like the other half of the Lou Donaldson as well. -
Come on. All the guys I listed are making loads of money and they deserve a little if not a lot of heckling. Matt BULLSHIT. Kevin Mahogany is a fine, fine singer. You may question some of the material he's chosen to sing lately (though personally I enjoyed the vast majority of his Motown album) but he's still a damn good jazz singer. I am seriously disappointed and amazed at some of your recent statements, like Hutcherson being a terrible vibist, and now this BULLSHIT.

November Issue of Cadence
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Yes, I got this, but the November issue never came... A lapse in renewal on my part, I guess? David, I can send you the tearsheets, so long as your email can handle it. Quite a few big pdf files. -

So what does everyone have in store for Thanksgiving? Lucky me, I'll be leaving the office at lunch time today, not to be seen til Monday morning. Thanksgiving for me, at least since I met my wife, has been Lenczycki style: Fried bird Excellent stuffing Mixed bag of veggies (good potatoes and green bean casserole almost overcoming overcooked broccoli and nasty stuff like turnips) NO pumpkin pie (they're all allergic) Its all made with love, but I'm starting to really miss Mom's Thanksgiving. So does anyone actually go to a mall this weekend? We've always avoided those nightmares, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to waste the day that way ... but that's just me. Happy Turkey Day everyone! And if you have to drive somewhere, crank up the jazz and drive safe!

I wonder where this clown seller got the $19.16 from.. Maybe that's what he paid originally, and he figures he's entitled to a clean $2,000.00 profit?

If there was a theme then people should be guessing it.

Amy, both for Tony's reasons and because its a great set. Unless, that is, you have a kneejerk antipathy towards organs, as the first two sessions are the Curtis Amy-Paul Bryant band.

But what does surprise me is that the cup thrower started out seemingly as a peace-maker. He was pulling Artest back with one arm in a half nelson for maybe 30 seconds or more while Artest was wailing on the other guy. Then, Mr. Instigator/peace-maker suddenly decides to start pounding on Artest from behind. Surely, he will face the worst penalties of any of the fans (that is, assuming they don't identify the chair-thrower). The cup-thrower should not only get assault charges but surely disorderly conduct.

So there I was, minding my own business

On a more serious note, pet owners should know that the Bufo Toad secretes a toxic substance on its skin, so dogs that find one of these and want to play with it can actually die. We've got way too many of these things in our yard and have to constantly keep an eye out for them when the dog is out. And Hans, my wife keeps a spray bottle of bleach by the door. That's the meaning of acid rain at the Gould residence! -
During a fan riot, a fan goes on the court and approaches you. Its called defending yourself. ****************************** I guess we should be glad that no one at the arena was armed: Five hunters gunned down in Wisconsin woods Police: Dispute over deer stand apparently led to killings Monday, November 22, 2004 Posted: 3:24 AM EST (0824 GMT) (CNN) -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating the killings of five hunters Sunday in northwest Wisconsin -- bloodshed apparently sparked by a dispute over a hunting spot. A suspect has been arrested. "This is completely nuts," said Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle of the Sawyer County Sheriff's Department. "Why? I mean, five people dead because somebody was trespassing on property. It makes no sense." Three others were wounded, said Julie Veness, an emergency medical technician in Exeland, Wisconsin. Saturday marked the opening of the nine-day deer season, and Veness said the shootings appeared to stem from a dispute over a deer stand -- an elevated position from which hunters can target deer. "Apparently, the person was asked to leave and get out of his deer stand, and he didn't take it very well and he fired away at them," she said. The suspect apparently got lost in the woods after the rampage. He was led out by a pair of hunters who were not aware of the shootings, according to Zeigle. "We were very thankful to take him into custody. No one else got hurt," Zeigle said. "When he was taken into custody, his gun was empty." Jennifer Greshowak, a spokeswoman for Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, said three men from the same hunting party were brought to that facility after suffering gunshot wounds. One of the three was transferred to a hospital in nearby Marshfield, she said. The other two -- identified by relatives as Denny Drew and Lauren Hesebeck -- were recovering from surgery at Lakeview. Drew was in serious condition, while Hesebeck was listed in fair condition, their families said in a statement issued Sunday night. "Our families certainly appreciate the thoughts and prayers of this close-knit community, and encourage you to think and pray for the other families involved," the statement said. Veness said the killings have shocked Exeland, a village of 219 people about 135 miles northeast of Minneapolis. "It just doesn't happen in this neck of the woods," she said. "We don't expect any of this to happen."

If this is the first guy Artest went after, then there's no doubt he's telling the truth that he didn't throw the cup in the first place. Just watch the video. The dude has a cup in his hand as Artest comes after him. Guess Artest has lots of time to work on promoting the rap album now.

November Issue of Cadence
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Up, since the December issue with part 2 of the interview landed in my mail box yesterday. -
I guess this proves that you have to be "of a certain age" to know about What's Happening let alone know that the Doobie's appeared on an episode. Leaves me wondering whether Aric knows that Bob Newhart played a psychologist before he was an inn keeper.

I think you've got enough of the hard bop Blue Note era. I'd give him a taste of swing era stuff, Ben Webster or Hawkins or Young. A vocalist would be a good idea, too, like some Joe Williams, or maybe Joe and Basie to give a taste of big band jazz too.
