Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters... RELEASED!
Dan Gould replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Ordered Monday, received Saturday and listened to twice so far, digging it a great deal. Definitely like the tunes with Ron Blake; but the only tune that doesn't appeal so much is "Life Wish"-for me it kind of noodles around and doesn't sustain my interest. But the rest of the disc-great stuff! -
Well, Jim, I was just trying to make up for my participation/initiation of all the "remember when" threads B)
-
Their "experts" are morons, or else they were so shocked to hear anything close to "Bird" that they decided to give her credit.
-
Glad you finally did give them a try. Lots more great Sounds lps to look for, the top of my list would be Moods, Feelin Good, Here We Come. I think the last CD issue was Live at the Lighthouse, you can probably still find it fairly easily. And don't forget the album they did with Stanley Turrentine, Blue Hour! Some people say it puts them to sleep, but this is a terrific album of late night blues by two masters.

Well, I'd hate to not be heard. -

Yeah, don't you love that residual bounce on the downswing? Its that extra bit of realism that makes it -
Thanks guys. I ask because of the new audiophile remasters of Ray Brown's Soular Energy. The former Gene Harris Fanatic is curious about the four extra tunes they found including three alternates. On the other hand, the guy who's selling them, Dennis, had a big to-do with me on the board regarding a certain attitude he espoused (see, this is where political discussions ruin things!). So, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones, if he is; that is, if I can wrap my brain around the price of $50 for a two record set.. Hey, he's got the LPs up on ebay with a buy-it-now of the regular list price, maybe I should use my wife's ebay name to buy it!
-
Pardon my ignorance, but do "half-speed" audiophile remasters play at the usual 33 1/3 or what?

When I found out his name is *already* "Coltrane" I knew we had to adopt him! On the edit, as usual, I am unable to attach the picture so its not really the thread I wanted to start. Anywhoo, my wife's grown quite distressed at the lack of an animal presence in our home since the demise of our beloved Bailey, and so it looks like we are heading to the Humane Society this weekend to pick up our new companion. She went by herself yesterday and saw a schipperke mix, really adorable looking and when she looked up at the name and saw that it was "Coltrane" she knew she had to tell me about it. So, I'm going to see the dog this afternoon to make a decision, but because it was a stray that was picked up, the original owners have til Saturday to claim him before we get first dibs. How am I gonna tell Coltrane that I really don't care for his namesake's later work? B)

A darn good one is Brian Lynch's effort for Sharp Nine, Tribute To The Trumpet Masters. Brian and Mulgrew Miller, with a mix of tunes, both originals inspired by players and tunes the trumpet masters are known for. Highly recommended.

I want you to know I picked mine in memory of the old "women" threads. Sure, I could have picked some small shot of some fine looking lady, but when I found the animated image, I said, "call off the search!"

Jazz is definitely an anytime, all the time thing for me. Its true that I get a lot of hearing done in the car, but I don't really find that I can listen that closely-usually I'm competing with the music by cursing out the drivers around me The problem with evening listening is when my wife isn't working late, she's more likely to be watching TV or having TV on, so the best time for home listening is weekends, particularly Sunday morning with the newspaper, and also the hour or 90 minutes I'll have between getting home from work and making dinner/watching the news. ****** I realize now that this comment is kind of off-topic or at least very tangential. To answer the question, I can't say that jazz speaks more to me at any particular time of the day. I do however find that certain albums work very well in a dark room, for example Blue Hour and Kind of Blue .

I think it will, Matthew, as the people here are cool, and its not only got the vibe of BN building, but its almost developing that "private club" atmosphere, or the bar "where everybody knows your name (or handle)". Maybe its the shared trauma of the way the BNBB went down, but the presence of here of familiar people and an easy atmosphere makes it very comfy. Heck, I'm so happy to still be "around" you guys, I haven't the slightest urge to start posting on the politics thread!

I really dug that collective effort on the ongoing sci-fi story starring Aric. I kept trying to move it toward dark violent avenues and then the next guy would bring it back to the light, though. Too bad, there were some real good writing and plot twists, I wish someone kept it.

Hey, didn't you used to be somebody?
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Jazzbo is Lon. And yes, I am the former GHF. Hey-if you want to address me, "Dan" is just as short! -
I used to terrorize, I mean, contribute to a bulletin board hosted by the most famous record label in the history of jazz. Can I come here to play?
-
Well, this ain't happening for me. Yes, I put http:// before the URL. Yes, I right clicked and copied and pasted the URL from the properties tab. And this is what I get: Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed
-
Well, the error message I get is something about "dynamic pages" in the image code or something. I tried linking from AAJ and then I uploaded the image to photovillage, won't work from either one. ARGH! You guys 'd be laughing but I can't make it work!

I was trying to have some fun with the fact that Greg is now homeless, but while I see that avatar images can be used, I can't seem to link images? Or am I missing something?

Looking for Soul People by Stitt w/Ervin
Dan Gould replied to jazzhound's topic in Offering and Looking For...
The Fantasy website still lists this as available. I'd be surprised if its OOP as so few of their reissues seem to reach that sad state. Of course, if you really prefer the LP you're on your own. -
Yes! And does anyone know if his appearance on Bobby Timmons "Live at the Connecticut Jazz Part" was his last? Or was it Bobby's last? Anyway, just got that one a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering where it fit in since there's not much info on the cover.
-
Get the Sonny Red OJC, I think its titled Red Green and Blue because he's with Blue Mitchell and Grant Green among others. Someone else will pop in with which two Riverside LPs the reissue contains, but its an excellent hard boppin' disc.
-
She didn't say she wouldn't bring it to his attention, just that it doesn't apply to her as she does not have the appendage in question!!
