Mo Rivera = straight gangsta
100% classy career
Loved the ovation he got last night, well deserved and a cool move with the defensive team not taking the field so he was there by himself.

Here's Youtube of them:

never heard of HR derby champ.....
He's a good hitter from the A's, I think he's in his second year. A lot of A's players get little or no recognition.
-
My best wishes to him.

Huge gamble by the Nets, if no title next year or the year after, they could be a huge mess.Ballsy owner.Never heard of the #1 pick
Paul Pierce shoulda retired a Celtic...
Apparently, Andrei Kirilenko thinks they have the best chance to win. He signed a 2-year deal that will pay him about $6.8 million less if he only plays only one season for them, or $3.64 million less if he doesn't opt of the second season. He opted out of $10 million for what would have been his final season with the Wolves.
P.S. The Nets were already looking @ a $70 million luxury tax next year before signing him.
If he can stay healthy for the right parts of the season he's a nice addition. But along with how he perceives the team's chances perhaps the Russian ownership played a role. Hey, if people bring up Jay-Z's tiny percentage as a draw all the time I can mention the majority owner's background as being one as well.
And Brooklyn is home to a LOT of Russian folks! -
Haven't heard a note, but I just ordered it, Mike's posts are usually on the money about music.

You're about 3 hours out of NYC, right? IMHO, that's a long trip, but if YOU don't think so, that's what counts...

Mel Brooks has also written music for some of his films.

I like the Knicks' trade.
Isn't that mostly Bargnani for Novak, one good-shooting guy who does little else for another?
-
Congrats!

I went to see Savion Glover this afternoon. I post this in the music section because the musicality of the tappers was just amazing! The show is entitled STEPZ, and it's Glover, another guy and three women all tapping away. They tapped to some Coltrane, Stevie Wonder and a few other things. The program noted that the performance times vary greatly because the show is largely improvised. Glover and the other guy did a bit with the 'Mission Impossible' theme that I would have thought impossible if I didn't see it. An absolutely wonderful afternoon of tap.
I went with my wife, her sister, and my sister-in-law's 11 year old daughter, who likes dance. We waited around after the performance and Glover and the other dancers were quite gracious and signed autographs and posed for pictures. The 11 year old was a bit shy, so I grabbed her arm and brought her over to one of the female dancers(Ayodele Casel)and told Ms. Casel that the girl was shy. Ms. Casel gave her a big hug! It made the girl's day and was a wonderful moment.

Oakland not going away anytime soon, eh?
A lot of young talent that went pretty far last year, lookin' to do better this year. I'd say they're for real. Swept the Yanks recently, but lately that's not saying a lot.

That set was one of the best bargains I ever got. I was hot to get it when first released, and I saw it somewhere for $129.99. I thought it was a little high, so I looked around and found it for $99.99 at J&R. I worked downtown then , so I was planning to buy it in a couple days. I was around Union square one evening and I happened into Discomat and their tiny jazz section, and lo and behold, $69.99! Got it on the spot!

You're lucky, Jeff. Bloomberg has fucked the shit out of the NYC Public School music programs.
Between him and Giuliani they pretty much don't exist anymore.

The two turnovers James had down the stretch in the 4th quarter were such awful chokes that, had LeBron not been bailed out by some really fortunate Spurs free throw misses and a miracle Ray Allen three, I think his legacy may have been damaged. Unbelievably lucky win for the Heat, and I think the Spurs won't be able to recover from having the championship in hand and blowing it that badly.
That sums up my thinking too, though I'll watch for daggum reason. I wondered this at the time (I really did even though I never inhaled the NBA rulebook) but Duncan getting back onto the court when they reviewed to see if Allen's 3 was 3 was illegal and a technical violation. So assuming someone on Miami could have made the FT it may have been over sooner. At the time I thought a Spur had pulled a Weber Fab 5 TO violation.
If the refs didn't stop the game to see if Allen was behind the line(IMO, unnecessary, it looked very clear to me that he was behind the line), the Spurs had 5.2 seconds, could have rushed downcourt, perhaps catch the Heat in a mismatch, or a Heat player late to cover, etc. Popovich looked ready to pop on that, and I agree with him. That seemed to neutralize whatever advantage the Spurs had with possession at that point.

I don't think he rents it out for session work, and in the article he mentions having it so well soundproofed that he was able to light off firecrackers without the neighbors hearing it, so I would guess it's OK zoning-wiseI guess I'm surprised that having a recording studio in his home doesn't violate a zoning ordinance.

At work, I always see guys use the bathroom, then take a piece of paper towel to open the door. I get a laugh out of it, as I'm sure those folks don't get sick any more or less due to the paper towel usage. Me, I grab the handle barehanded! You only live once:)
