I'm honored by a nomination, but my personal life is a MESS right, I moved in March and I'll be moving agaian by mid-June, and my job is also moving in mid-May.

  2. Mets fans - Do you guys have a lefty in the pen that Collins could have brought in to face Howard in the 6th?? Can't understand why he would throw a righty vs. Howard w/ 2 men on. I mean Scott Atchinson? Really??

Not a Met fan, but the bullpen was a problem last year and it looks to be a problem this year also.

  3. Not excited about the Cowboys' night. Dropped from 18 to 31 and then picked up a center (Travis Frederick) who could have been had in the 2nd or 3rd round most likely. Don't think he's necessarily a bad player, just picked way too early. Blah.

I think the Vikings did well, all things considered, ending up with 3 first round picks, all of whom should be solid contributors.

On top of which they didn't get much from dropping that low in the draft to pick him. Worst part beside them not picking a DL which like the Raiders they desperately needed.....like the Giants they could have taken Barrett Jones. He was probably the best lineman avialble from Alabama. He started out as a guard. Because of injuries was moved to left tackle in 2011 and won the Outland that year. Moved to center as a senior and won the Rimmington. They only player to win both at two different positions. As well 3 National Championships at three different positions and All-American at three positions. If he came out last year as a left tackle he goes in the first round. As a center/guard.....

Hell, they could have even taken Brian Schwenke if they wanted a center that bad.

As in, Jerry Jones strikes again. The difference between him and Al Davis is that at one time Al Davis knew what he was doing as de facto GM.

Worst picks would be by the Lions and Bears. The Raiders had a Al Davis flashback. They dropped from the 3rd overall to 12 for a single 2nd round pick to pick the fastest DB....he just open heart surgery last Nov to repair a torn inferior vena cava ...it's honestly is a miracle he's even alive.

The JETS basically drafted for whomever finally replaces Ryan with two defensive players when their biggest problem is on offense. The Browns picked the player Miami should have if they were going LB instead of OL. Browns needed a WR last year and they picked another QB and a RB. They still need a WR for whomever is QB....and they picked a LB when their defense wasn't the problem. The JETS are supposedly interesed in Ryan Nassib or Geno Smith.

What does it say about Ryan Nassib (who beside Barkley was touted to be the most Pro-ready QB's) that his former coach passed on him as QB for someone (who unless the Bills are changing to a read option offense) will be sitting a couple years?

The Hoodie got the Nos. 52, 83, 102, 229 from the Vikings for trading the 29th. That's a lot of picks by the Vikings for a 29th, which brings up once again just how litttle the Raiders and Cowboys recieved in return.

I like the Rams picks. Bradford needs a WR and if Ogletree can stay out of trouble...he might be the best LB picked in the first round.

A big caution for the Jets first pick, the DB- he's had FIVE surgeries already.

  4. Do you think the Jets will dump Tebow before the season starts? I'm not sure there's a trade market at all for him, nor do I think he's even a decent #2 QB - the Jets apparently agreed when they bypassed him last season for 3rd stringer McElroy.

I think Tebow's best bet is to try to switch to FB or TE or something - I don't see him ever being an NFL caliber starting QB.

They have to-nobody wants him, so there's no trade value I can see.

  5. Anybody think this didn't affect the outcome of the Cubs season several years ago?

The fans need to keep their hands off the damn ball until it is clear the ball in play no longer matters to the resulting outcome of a given game.

Poor Bartman still getting bashed, but the horrible Cubs relievers get off the hook, and the toothpick-chewin' manager who ran them out there...

meanwhile you'e still counting your lucky stars you had itsy-bitsy Jeffrey Maier. Just think. Only 10 months earlier, the sports pages yelled "Joe Who?". Yankee fans might still be yelling that if not for their little innocent guardian angel.

There was quite a difference between Bartman and Maier- Bartman was so villified he had to move, and Maier made the rounds of the morning talk shows! Bartman did what any fan woulld do- he saw a ball coming his way and tried to catch it. Maier interfered with a ball on the field of play and shoulda been tossed form the game. IIRC, Rich Garcia was the ump and he correctly admitted after the game that he had made a bad call. I remember watching the game and shaking my head and saying, "How's that a home run?" I get no joy from the team I am rooting for being on the good side of a bad call- I'd rather they win by hitting better, less mistakes, etc. I'd much rather there be no bad calls, but that's not realistic and we can't replay it, so let it go and move on.

By that point in the season Torre had already proven himself to be a good manager, so the 'Joe Who?' headlines didn't matter anymore.

  7. The Complete Original Mahavishnu Orchestra Columbia Albums Collection

    £14.78 from Amazon UK.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Original-Mahavishnu-Orchestra-Collection/dp/B0080R7Q4S/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1366348636&sr=1-3&keywords=mahavishnu+orchestra

The pricing for these box sets is all over the place. The Brubeck set (currently £155) was advertised and reviewed in Jazzwise this month which suggests it might come down in price.

That Mahavishnu box price is fantastic, and it has 2+ discs of live MO.

  8. I be there Wed & Friday

Like the last band on the opening night save for one thing....one can guess..and I have never seen Roswell Rudd in person.

Look forward to seeing/hearing Milford Graves and Louis Sclavis. I have only seen Graves once and have never seen the great clarinetist.

I would like to see Roscoe Mitchell but I can't do three nights in a row.

Saturday night is OK with the nice trio of Davis, Revis and Cyrille and Workman ensemble.

I don't think I could endure Baraka either.

I went one year and caught Khan Jamal, and he and his band were fantastic. The performance was ruined by some poetess who had no idea when to come in, when to lay out, etc

  9. The problem with the postal service is that for some stupid reason Congress passed a bill in 2006 that gives postal workers something that no other Govt union/employee has....fully prefounded benefits for the next 75-years. They're even diverting $5 billion a year to prefund benefits for people who they haven't even hired yet. No matter how often they raise prices....they're constantly in the red as a result.

They're cutting hundreds of post offices and thousands of employees, which has effected how quickly things are delivered. You can't even get next day delivery anymore using first class postage. Before the most recent cuts....40% of first class mail was delivered the next day.

    Noj:

They're backing off cutting Saturday because they need Congress to approve that....and they won't let them.

That's blown a giant hole in their budget, and there are a couple other things that are problematic financially. Everytime the price of gas goes up, the USPS takes a huge hit. They have over 400,000 vehicles! The other is that they are severely limited as to how much they can raise postage rates.

  10. The Fox broadcast network recently lost a lawsuit (to be appealled, of course) against Barry Diller's Aereo, which retransmits broadcast channels (if I understand correctly, and maybe I don't), and enables customers to watch TV on their iPads and smartphones.

This is in New York City, so maybe some of you New Yorkers can tell us more about this.

So a senior Fox executive says that the company will have to consider becoming a cable channel if its appeal of the lawsuit fails.

    http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/04/09/exec-threatens-to-make-fox-pay-tv-only-channel-if-aereo-goes-on/?intcmp=features

It will actually happen nationwide if I read it right. Fox and the other broadcast networks get $$ from retransmission fees that they charge to FIOS/cable/Dish providers. Diller's Aereo is based on a series of antennas nationwide that allow computer/laptop/Ipad users to watch broadcast TV for a fee of about $8 a month. Aereo pays zip to Fox or the other broadcast networks, so they're not happy about possibly losing some revenue stream. If Fox becomes a cable channel then the Aereo 'problem' disappears. However, it could create some new problems for Fox with their NFL package and possible their baseball package.

  11. gentrification is not always a good thing.

I don't know that I've ever seen it be good, at least not in the sense of solving anything vs. just relocating it. Dallas has had this going on for several decades now, and no, not good.Brooklyn, too, with lifelong residents displaced for hipsters with lots of $$

  12. I'm a Yank fan and I doubt they'll make the playoffs this year. The pitching would have to be otherworldly to do that, and while it could be very good I don't see a phenomenal staff this year. Age/injuries are taking their toll, and now it's time to pay the piper. MAYBE the Yanks will finally get serious about building up the farm system, which has many suspects but not many prospects.
