What CD's Did You Get For Christmas, 2007?
NaturalSoul replied to AndrewHill's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I recall mentioning this in the Clifford Scott thread I think. Also Andy Ennis, who is on the Bill Doggett album "Wow!" - he takes the solo on "Booty butt". I didn't realise you could get those two on one CD. May consider upgrading my LPs. MG Yeah, you did MG! And when i was reading the booklet it all came rushing back to me in an endless joy. And the 2fer is available on rhino. -

I got mine from Hiroshi Tanno in March. Don't know if he's still got copies. But it was a cheapo - 1000 yen. If he hasn't got it, try HMV Tokyo. (It was oly released in Japan.) MG Was available from dustygroove for a long time at 12.99, but has disappeared, which pisses me off because i didn't buy a copy! errr Go for Hiroshi. Mine was only the equiv of $11 from him. There was something else you wanted from him, I think. MG I wanted that kynard self titled thing on mainstream but i found that much cheaper on itunes.

Jakie Ivory never made another album like "Soul discovery", not with Willis Jackson, and certainly not with Jr Walker. "Jacks" is a pretty standard, solid type of album of a black R&B band live with an appreciative audience. As a document of that nature, it's valuable. "Laying in the cut" has a different band, a lot more enthusiasm, and some tracks that do approach the "over the top" kind of playing that made Ivory's reputation. But basically, its a pub band. I like 'em. I play 'em. I enjoy 'em. But it's still a pub band. MG Thanks! I'm sure i'd like them.
