  1. I replaced the ( typing) errors - some were mine - others were in the original !! The Murder Of Lee Morgan Keep swinging Durium
  2. THE MURDER OF LEE MORGAN Lee Morgan belongs with Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard and Kenny Dorham to the great hard bop trumpet players of the 1950s and 1960s. Lee Morgan, born in Phildadelphia July 1938 passed away, the 19th of February 1972, too young, 34 years old, due to a crime of passion. While performing in a New York club he was shot by his female friend who found him with another woman. John Campo, jazz guitar player, track cyclist, and an author of novels, sent me an eyewitness report I love to share with you !! ....... John Campo: The Murder Of Lee Morgan Keep swinging Durium
  3. You're right - I couldn't believe the facts I read either ...... An album in 1946???? Afghanistan? I wonder where these fairy tails come from? Morning Mist Keep swinging Durium
  4. CHUCK WAYNE When Chuck Wayne recorded the album Morning Mist he played as a studio musician for CBS, and in clubs like The Most on 2nd Avenue, together with Joe Mooney. On the record three own compositions: I'll Get Along, a tune with a Basie-like groove, Shalimar a waltz with a great solo by Chuck himself and See Saw. Some tunes are in a straight bebop tempo, a few with some latin swing, like Alone At Last. The whole album, less then 30 minutes playing time (What a shame!), features some great tunes, but never surprises. Except the last one- Lovely, on which Chuck plays the banjo. The banjo was the symbol for dixieland music, but Wayne played bebop with it - great, but not for a lot of critics. In the early 1950s he played bebop on his mandolin too in a George Wallington group. The records Chuck Wayne made were not a success - they were unnoticed and neglected and I learned that he made another album around this time, fully dedicated to the banjo. I'd like to hear that album too !! Morning Mist Keep swinging Durium

  18. JIMMY RANEY Jimmy Raney, a rather underestimated guitar player, was descibed as the definitive cool jazz guitarist, a fluid bop solist with a quiet sound who had a great deal of inner fire (Scott Yanow - All music Guide) and as one of the most gifted and influential postwar jazz guitarists ( Peter Watrous - New York Times) Try to find yourself some albums from this great guitar player. Jimmy Raney (featuring Bob Brookmeyer) Keep swinging Durium

  22. MONTY ALEXANDER TRIO Porgy en Bess - Terneuzen (The Netherlands) 15th of May 2008 Monty Alexander - Hassan Shakur - Georges Fludas After the concert I showed Monty Alexander some of my LPs, including the one, Zing, I discussed in a previous blog . Yeah, that's an early one - I must have been very young. When I told him he was 23 then, he said: Okey, but the coloured pictures were made much later as this album was reissued. Only the black & white picture in the middle is from that period. Monty Alexander Trio Keep swinging Durium

  25. ARCHIE SHEPP Archie Shepp saxes - Tom McClung piano - Wayne Dockery bass - Steve McCraven drums Archie Shepp visibly enjoys being treated as a star. The way he enters the stage, his demands, like special 1960s microphones, because they reproduce my sound better, his command for applause with a small bow right after his solos (before any one could started the applause) ....... it all belongs to his act.... International Jazz Festival - Middelburg (The Netherlands) 10th of May 2008 Doubleconcert with Bobby Previte Bobby Previte - Archie Shepp in Middelburg Keep swinging Durium
