  6. BENJAMIN HERMAN Last weekend the Benjamin Herman Itch Quartet finished a three week tour to promote their latest album Hypochristmastreefuzz with a concert at the Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen ( in the southwerst part of The Netherlands) A great concert, complete dedicated to the compositions of Misha Mengelberg. The album: Benjamin Herman - Hypochristmastreefuzz was released a few weeks ago. A great find under the Christmas tree !! Rubbish under the Christmas Tree: Hypochristmastreefuzz Keep swinging Durium
  7. FRED HERSCH A few weeks ago the documentary "Let Yourself Go'- The Lives of Fred Hersch has been released in Cologne, Germany. This Aha!DVD production was made by Katja Duregger, Journalistin, Autorin and Regisseurin ( = journalist, writer and producer) as she labels herself. This documentary brings a fascinating view of the many lives, sides, of Fred Hersch - a very personal document of a great piano player, fighting against time with a life-threading infection as the sword of Damocles. A documentary you should see !! Let Yourself Go - The lives of Fred Hersch Keep swinging Durium

  10. GRAEME BELL Graeme Bell, piano player, composer and bandleader, born in Melbourne, Australia, 94 years ago, retired a few years ago at the festivities held for his 90th birthday a few years ago. Despite his old age he is still active in music, relied on the latest release, for which he made new arrangments, contributed the liner notes of the tunes and even played the piano on some of the tracks. This record was released this summer on the New Market label ( NEW 32542) Graeme Bell: Australian Jazz Icon | Graeme Bell: All Recorded Compositions Keep swinging Durium
  11. Next month, January 2009, BFT #61 ( 1 CD), titled "Something Old Something New", subtitled Keep (it) swinging, will be launched - my second attempt to bring you some tracks that fascinated me, since the BFT # 44 ( 2 discs) titled "Keepswinging" I posted almost two years ago. If you love to participate in listening, enjoying (I hope so) and analysing this selection, please send me a PM and inform me if you love to have a CDR sent to your home address ( don't forget to mention it) or ( later) a link of a shared files. Pleasse let me know and don't forget to mention what you like: the CDR or the link. Keep swinging Durium
  12. It has been for sometimes that I actually participated in the BFTs. Well - a new start with number 60 (disc one0 A great compilation, but. I'm afraid, not much for me to recognize ........................ The first track seems to be a Don Ellis production, but I haven't got any idea which one. 9. The flute reminded me to Frank Wess or Sam Most. 10. This Indian influences remind me to Dr. Lloyd Miller and his Oriental jazz or Eastones albums.. I had some problems with burning the albums and I learned that I can't play track 11 up to the end. I will be the next one to continue this BFT with number 61 next month and I have posted, although a bit early, the signup tread for this BFT today, to have your burned CDRs in time before the end of the month. The links for downloading will follow later. Keep swinging Durium

  16. SLIM AND SLAM The music of Slim en Slam, jive music - rhythm & blues and rock and roll avant-la-lettre should be labeled as amusement or vaudeville music. It's entertaining and you don't need to have a music's degree to understand it. Great to listen to, but if you listen to the four songs of this 70 years old recording session it seems as if they all have the same drive - the same sound - the same melody - the same key: A dime a dozen? Slim and Slam: A Dime A Dozen? Keep swinging Durium
  17. LEO CUYPERS This record was made just after Leo had left the Willem Breuker Kollektief. The liner notes on the cover by Wim Van Eyle, one of the compilers of the Dutch Jazz and Blues Discography, tells extensively about the recording session, organized on the 20th of July 1981 in the VARA Studio number 2 in Hilversum, the "radio" city in the center of The Netherlands. This Trio recording is rather unique, as Leo loves to play solo piano - een tweevingerige pianist ( = a two-finger piano player) critics said, but Wim Van Eyle refutes this in the first paragraph: Zijn solo's in stukken als Newborn en Bim Bam Beieren zijn een smak techniek, waarmee voornoemde kritici wel een heel eind het bos in gestuurd worden. (= His solo's on the piano in pieces like Newborn and Bim Bam Beieren show a remarkable technique which learns that his critics were wrong ). Leo, we gaan spelen als een echt jazztrio en we maken een Flanagan-achtige LP van. (= Leo, Let's play like a real jazz-trio and make a Flanagan-like album ), Han Bennink must have said. Han Bennink is nowadays still active as an artist and percusssionist in contemporaty music. Leo Cuypers: A two-finger piano player? Keep swinging Durium

  19. PETE CHRISTLIEB - FERDINAND POVEL TRIO REIN DE GRAAFF | Pete Christlieb, born in Los Angeles, February 1945, has a career of 45 years up to now and played with a lot of famous names, like Chet Baker and Woody Herman in the 1960s. During the concert we learned that he is a skilled ballad player, special in the tune Body and Soul, a tenor's man dillemma Rein De Graaff labeled this Coleman Hawkins classic. He showed us that he is a solid player in the more fast pieces. Ferdinand Povel is a regular guest in Porgy en Bess jazz club and performed with Rein De Graaff in previous concerts, like a tour labeled as Jubilee Jazz Party with Bennie Bailey, Ronnie Cuber and Herb Geller. He belongs to the best saxophone players in Holland and abroad. I remember him in a previous concert with the John Marshal-Ferdinand Povel European Quintet early this year in Porgy en Bess. Ferdinand Povel surprised with a great ballad I Fall In Love Too Easily. Rein de Graaff Trio with Pete Christlieb and Ferdinand Povel in Porgy en Bess Keep swinging Durium
