Wertmüller is a terrific drummer (and John still has to hear him on Brötzmann's Nothung), and I am VERY VERY interested in hearing him together with a guy whjo is all over guitar (hopefully electric with a lot of distortion and feedback). Meanwhile, I ordered some more CDs from Erstwhile (including Too Beautiful to Burn and some random For 4 Ears releases). Looking forward to opportunity to add some more "profound" cotroversy to the eai discussion.

Gokhan, continuing our PM discsussion here, since it might be interested to others. Check out Scott Rosenberg's own Barely Auditable label. I have two discs with Kyle Bruckmann (Entymology - a solo oboe recoding!, and Six Synaptics with Rosenberg and Zerang), and they are both positively insane (I will try to add more when I re-listen to them).

Don't want to instigate a discussion on the "importance" issue (who other than critics care about "importance", anyway? ), but I would just like to note that I am somewhat surprised about the whole Kirk hype - I cannot stand his playing (and I have probably about 10 his CDs, so this is more or less an educated statement): I find it very superficial and a total show-off fake. I love Rollins, btw.

I listened to discs 2 and 3 again and you know what - I hate to admit it - KV and MG don't bother me at all here. It's a great set (listened to disc 1 a few times a couple of weeks ago) and one of the cornerstones of avant / free / whatever in my opinion; it should actually be listened to in one sitting to fully get the musical picture. It's a shame it's OOP. Well, I am relieved

Listening to the disc 2 of the Jimmy Lyons box. Now we are talking! Amazing playing, simply amazing. On edit: DAMN! On edit 2 (disc 3, solo set): Oh yes.

Inspired by Tony's "rejected" thread, I relistened to Collective 4tet "Live at Crescent", and found it truly fascinating. Relaxed and resourceful free playing and really outstanding interplay. AMG review.

Absolutely get the Denis Charles - Wilber Morris - Charles Tyler trio (there are several CDs (2 or 3) on Bleu Regard label).

I have not heard that one. As a matter of fact, I have not heard a new Burton Greene album in a long time. Which one would you recommend? I'll have to dig up his Columbia LP. A very nice album I have not played recently. I haven't heard any Burton Greene stuff in fact. But I am curious.
-
There's also a great interview of Burton Greene in the May 2004 section of the Paris Transatlantic Magazine in that link! brownie, have you heard his latest solo record on Drimala? I am curious about it.

I am more and more interested in Jack Wright's music - the man has a truly unique approach. There is an interesting article on Wright in paristransatlantic magazine: http://www.paristransatlantic.com/magazine...apr_text.html#1 He also has his own lable Spring Garden Music.

Also, a bit jewish, isn't it? Great disc.

Gokhan, do you have Brötzmann's The März Combo: Live At Wuppertal (on FMP)? This is also a Brötzmann tentet, but a totally different one: Toshinori Kondo: trumpet Werner Lüdi: reeds Larry Stabbins: reeds Peter Brötzmann: reeds Paul Rutherford: trombone Johannes Bauer: trombone Nicky Skopelitis: guitar Caspar Brötzmann: guitar William Parker: double bass Anton Fier: drums Casper, Peter's son, is a very talented and original guitarist, btw.

I have a feeling that your sale list might soon expand. Come on people, some things are sacred.

He-he, Tony has Nailed. I had a girlfriend last year who after heaving heard a brief fragment of Nailed told me absolutely serioulsy she had to reasses here relationships with me, since "normal" people can't enjoy music like this. Nothing really changed of course, since she had had some suspicions before and Nailed was just a further confirmation of her findings.

I have seven of the lIMItEd SEdItION titles and thus far I've been mostly disappointed. (I don't have Spotted Dick. ) This lot reminds me of The Social/Science Set (The Beak Doctor 5 & 6): the musicianship is pretty impressive but the music leaves me cold. I'll spin one or two today and complain... er... post further. Tony, do you have Vinny Golia and Damon Smith ones? - these two are the most "jazzy" LS releases, and are easy to enjoy.
-
BTW, Gokhan where did you get them from?
-
Universal Japan reissues including the Holland-Phillips duo: http://www.universal-music.co.jp/jazz/hardcore_jazz/ Hardcore jazz... hmm... I'll go for Milford Graves, Derek Bailey, Pharoah Sanders and Baden-Baden Free Jazz Orechestra (sounds the most intriguing - look at the band!: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...=Acx6m962okep7) as well (through Hiroshi Tanno).

Love is great, but I am not a particulalry big fan of Vandermark. I've bean meaning to chaeck Atomic for some time now, so I'll probably start with the stuff they did without Vandermark...

Anybody had a chance to listen to latest Brötzmann Tentet CDs on Okka?
-
Tony, have you listened to the lIMItEd SEdItION stuff? I just litened to the CD (CD-R, to be exact) optimistically called Spotted Dick, and I think it's pretty amazing. John Shiurba: guitar Scott Rosenberg: winds Gino Robair: non-perishables (percussion, actually) Morgan Guberman: contrabass Now, I am not sure I can even try to describe what it sounds like... Insane, would probably be a right word. I will make an attempt later. The site has some samples. And yeah, this is a limited edition of 96 copies...

Anybody knows tis one by chance: Dave Holland / Barre Phillips "Music from Two Basses" (ECM, 1971). I see it's just been reissued on CD in Japan (with corresponding price). Barre Phillips is one of my favorite bassists (his solo CD Camouflage (Victo) is my favorite solo bass record... Dave Holland is no slouch either... but the price...

Hans, "the Malik problem" can be solved pretty easily: get Give It Up (also on Black Saint). This one has Enrico Rava on trumpet! I actually remember there was a Malik CD I did like - I forgot what it is called; it consists mostly of ballads... I think it's on Mapleshade lable... I'll look for it...
-
the one I liked the most (although I haven't heard them all) is his solo Unto I Am (on Victo).
