Yes, that I agree with. Flight would be an understandable reaction, but he did realize what he saw, and did follow up, albeit ineffectually it turns out. Granted, he was young and should maybe get some slack--it's the father who didn't immediately call the police (assuming he believed his son) who's, IMO, more at fault. Instead we got a cover-up worthy of The Vatican.
