Let see: THE PLUGGED NICKEL THE SECOND QUARTET (1965-68) MILES DAVIS & JOHN COLTRANE IN SILENT WAY BITCHES BREW JACK JOHNSON Don't like DAVIS & EVANS (just my taste). And I've not feel the urge to buy SEVEN STEPS. The studio material stinks and I've all the live, minus few bonus tracks. Have yet to hear the CELLAR DOOR.

Great to see PSYCHICEMOTUS reedited. The best LATEEF by far.

As direct witness, you're certainly right. But as you say, they were no mention of that SANDY BETHUNE (unknown from me). When I've seen the film, it's was an evidence for everybody there, that only FERRARI could have done this interview, as the game of "cat & mouth" seems to be playing by both side. Now, if the interviewer was serious, that a surprise. Aniway, one of the best moment of the film was when Jimmy Lyons was playing with the sound of the saxophone in the large and tall fireplace of this magnificent large room.
-
You can add also to this two PHAROAH SANDERS as a master of the technic. But I know about hundred sax players who use to master circular breathing today. I'm not sure that all do good use of it, but...

LUC FERRARI was also the co-director (with GERARD PATRIS) of the best film ever made on CECIL TAYLOR: AMBITUS (CECIL TAYLOR A PARIS). LUC FERRARI was doing also the interview and It didn't go between him and TAYLOR without moments of tension, mostly because FERRARI was making some provocation in the purpose to get TAYLOR out of his "shell". I remember FERRARI asking CECIL TAYLOR why he didn't play "notes" and, from behind the piano and his dark spectacles, the pianist who was playing at the same time, answering: "You want note?" pointing his finger in the direction of ALAN SILVA, "He is going to play notes. Us, we will continued to play music". Most of the shooting was done during a day of rehearsal. The band was a quartet with LYON, SILVA and CYRILLE and the film catch them at the time of the concert they give in Paris in 1966 (who was also shot by the french television) and that you can find on STUDENT STUDIES (I think than STUDENT STUDIES was, on vinyle, THE GREAT CONCERT OF CECIL TAYLOR). The picture (16 mm) and the sound is good. Hope that film will find his way into DVD (if it's not already done).

FRANCE, the 1992 EUROPEAN CHAMPION? Gasp! That's news for me who thought that DANEMARK was the winner. And FRANCE out during the first round. FRANCE has win twice the EUROPEAN. In 1984 (PLATINI's years) and 2000 (ZIDANE's one). In 1992, MARSEILLE have win the CHAMPION'S LEAGUE (first of the name). Maybe you're mixing the two event.

Soccer: Zidane revient !! (Zidane is back!!)
P.L.M replied to ASNL77's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, I'd like to see such "non existant" player more often. If I remember well, he scores twice against ENGLAND in the last minutes or so and one more against SWITZERLAND. About his return: He may help the team, he may not but FRANCE will be better with him than without. About his performance for the two last years, let's first consider that the MADRID team was build like a total absurdity. ZIDANE was playing on the left side of the field what was competely stupid. The first year with MADRID, when he was playing in his natural position with a team more balance, they win the CHAMPION'S LEAGUE. In the FRENCH team, under the misguidance of JACQUES SANTINI, he was also playing on the left part of the field because this absurd and rigid 4/4/2 tactic that the blind SANTINI worshipped. I think that we will see a "new" ZIDANE, this year, with MADRID. And, perhaps, with the FRENCH team. -
Yep, a great record but the first one, SUSPENSIONS AND ANTICIPATIONS still keep the lead. For my taste, the best record of PARKER in duo with a pianist. And I like the record he has done in the company of AGUSTI FERNANDEZ or JOHN TILBURY. But SUSPENSIONS is in another league (and it's "jazz-oriented" as well)

The augmented edition of a previous CD published on ACTA (addition of 2 tunes recorded in studio). Essential music, essential JOHN STEVENS The live part has been recorded few months (Weeks?) before the too early Death of STEVENS. What's so extraordinary, here, it's that it shows the incredible evolution of the drummer who goes enter, in this record, the world of "microtonal" impro. Stunning. This, is in the manner of the trio of SIMON H. FELL (Wilkinson was a long time partner of the bassiste), close to a records like FOOM! FOOM!. A freeblowing session that most of you will like. I do like it much. Another essential John Stevens. Recorded in 1972, this is John Stevens in his "Free jazz" mood. Don't know this musicians. Never heard of them before or after. But they. This is also an augmented version of a concert that I had on a previous CD (on the label THE JAZZ LABEL). The sound quality have been greatly improve. Essential. If you are tired or bored by the recent production of this two let' say than, here they are at the peak of their talent. Genius at work. Essential, essential, esserntial...

Back to JOELLE LEANDRE CONCERTO GROSSO. The record is one of her best. And, as it is, it's certainly one of the best double bass record that I've ever heard. Not the equal of WAS DA IST (but who can ever equal this one?) but certainly in the same league. 14 pieces (the longest is 9'55 long, the shortest 3'22), seven on each record, beautifully recorded (with a close mike) for a sound "bigger than life". Even David, with his crapy low-fi stereo, could enjoy all the "nuances" of the invigorating playing of Mrs LEANDRE. Guaranty.

The guy name is David Stubbs if you look at his "home" page.

Not shure that the "illness" of McCoy is so benign. If I remember well, his concert at the EUROPA FESTIVAL from LE MANS, two months and half ago, was cancelled because he was "seriously ill". I read that on the french site CITIZEN JAZZ. Don't know more about but...
-
According to the distributer in Belgium through the shop called FNAC, they still distribute the record. I will ask the guy who is in charge of jazz in this shop (and who is a close friend), if he can order any. We'll see.

You should try: THE TWO SEASONS (EMANEM) with JOHN EDWARDS & MARK SANDERS. AT THE VORTEX (1996) (EMANEM) with BARRY GUY & PAUL LYTTON AFTER APPLEBY (LEO) with MARILYN CRISPELL, BARRY GUY, PAUL LYTTON 50th BIRTHDAY CONCERT (LEO) with ALEXANDER VON SCHLIPPENBACH, BARRY GUY, PAUL LOVENS, PAUL LYTTON The first one (TWO SEASONS) sounds very "jazz". Could be right your alley for a start.

Is this in print? What does it sound like? Guy ← I don't think it's in print. What does it sound like? I'll give it a spin later. ← It is in print. KARIOBYN (CHRONOSCOPE CPE 2001) KENNY WHEELER, EVAN PARKER,DEREK BAILEY, DAVE HOLLAND, JOHN STEVENS. Recorded February 1968.

Can't agree more. A true original in all aspect and the greatest pianist of them all after TRISTANO, MONK, POWELL and beside TAYLOR. Seems than the guy was always first when something new and INTERESTING was cooking. As a young starter, his bass player and producer was nothing less than MINGUS and his drummer ART BLAKEY. He plays with ORNETTE COLEMAN when nobody knows who was ORNETTE. He invented free improvisation with JIMMY GIUFFRE. Back SONNY and HAWKS in their legendary duel. Discovers or pushes artist like CARLA BLEY or ANNETTE PEACOCK. And plays their music better than anybody else including themselves. Was on the ESP label where he recorded two of his best LP with the like of MARSHALL ALLEN, MILFORD GRAVES, EDDIE GOMEZ, BARRY ALTSCHUL. Published on his label SUN RA in solo. Was a pioneer of the synthesizer at the same time than RA. Help KOGLMANN to define his concept of a "white" jazz esthetic. And was still leading the way recently with records like TIME WILL TELL, SANKT GEROLD associates to EVAN PARKER & BARRE PHILLIPS OPEN, TO LOVE is a great album, his very first solo album (as far as I know), even if I prefer titles like HOMMAGE TO CARLA (OWL), HANDS ON (EVIDENCE) or SWEET TIME & BASICS (JUST IN TIME).

Very good album UBU. You should get its twin: RYLICKOLUM: FOR YOUR PLEASURE, same musicians, recorded the day before.
